News: Wal-Mart, Gay Seamen, Katherine Harris, Kiki & Herb
Wal-Mart partners with National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce as it expands its urban presence in a "sincere effort to reach out to...a significant part of our customer base." Conservative public policy group balks: "I don't think this is something that will sell on Main Street America, where most Wal-Mart stores are located. I don't think cheap prices on goods from China will be enough to stop a rollback in their customer base if they choose to go down this aisle."

Gay life on the high seas: "There was a fascinating gay culture on ships which was very different from life on shore. For a camp man a place such as the dining saloon was his stage, cruising place, playground, club and theatre for informal entertainment throughout the meal. Gay dining room stewards minced, flirted with passengers and made a camp show of waiting at table. When camp seafarers came ashore, particularly in the 1950s and early 60s, they were like colourful butterflies in a drab world."
"Lewd" hazing at Massachusetts football camp under investigation: "...includes allegations that players tossed semen from a cup onto the victim during the alleged assault in the dormitory-style barracks at Camp Edwards..."
Wingnut and struggling U.S. Senate candidate Katherine Harris says separation of church and state is a lie: "God is the one who chooses our rulers."
In New York and haven't seen Kiki & Herb on Broadway? Think about going on Tuesday, August 29th, when a batch of tickets from that night's show will go to benefit the Ali Forney Center, an organization that provides housing and services for homeless LGBT youth. Your $100 ticket will get you the show and an afterparty down the street at Etcetera, Etcetera with Kiki & Herb (Justin Bond and Kenny Mellman). Get 'em here...

I'm glad the Ali Forney Center is staying in the headlines, and really happy that celebrtities like Kiki & Herb, Antony, and Margaret Cho are willing to lend their name to the cause. There are way too many kids these days being kicked out of their homes and onto the streets just for coming out, and there are way too many people, especially gay people, aware of it. I hope one of these days HRC or NGLTF finally wakes up and puts this on "the gay agenda." In the meantime: rock on ALi Forney Center, you do great work.

Ouch. That should have read "there are way too many people, especially gay people, UNaware of it." Hope that was obvious.

Having worked at a WalMart for more years than I care to remember I can tell you from first hand experience their customer base does not give two shits about what WalMart does and does not support...it's all about the dollar and how much they can buy with their dollar.
On a positive nod to this MegaRetailer, WalMart, while never coming out and proclaiming to be pro-gay, has always held diversity and treating each of their individual employees as a person as a cornerstone of their success. When the religious "right" threatened to stop shopping WalMart because the retailer sold Brokeback Mountain on DVD, the chain's only comment was that "Our customers vote at the cash register."
The DVD was a hot seller and is still being sold on their shelves. Customers 1 point, Religious Zealots 0 points.

Katherine Harris and friends still believe in the "divine right of kings."
By the way, by sizing up Katherine Harris' oversized tits, her "God" must be a generous God, then again, her God must be her plastic surgeon.

Don't THINK ABOUT seeing Kiki & Herb.
Run... RUN! as fast as you can... to the Helen Hayes Theater. If the show's not sold out. I ADORE them. See them and then buy their CD. NOW!
Kiki needs your love. So does Herb.

Ms. Harris seriously needs to rephrase her comments. America does not have 'rulers' we have 'leaders'. It is in the UK that the 'ruler' is chosen by 'the Grace of God' or such.
It is also nice to know that she thinks our founding fathers were dunderheads. Way to go!

Ms. Harris was the GOP bimbo that fucked up the 2000 election in Florida. Her reward was a steady escalation of political status within the party in the state. It never ceases to amaze me that people never see that worthless piece of crap for what it she is, instead, they adore her. And if her run for Senate fails, I am sure she can parlay the past siz years of political "life" into an onair position on the likes of Fox.

NOTHING will ever make me shop at Wal-Mart. Ever. Simply because that company, as Lubridan put it, cares nothing about anyone but itself. From destroying the environment, to exploiting its workers, to f*cking with the American trade deficit--Wal Mart is a business entity looking out for itself. Shaking hands with a few gay group leaders in a photo isn't fooling me of all people.

Oh, and is Katherine Harris like, Anne Coulter's less abrasive but equally nauseating step-sister or what?
Posted by: Bobby Alexander | Aug 25, 2006 9:46:10 AM
Pretty much,Bobby. She's evil. I was struck by her ignorance and arrogance during interviews with her back in 2000. This whole "Jesus" thing is a rube that she's pulling to woo the Christians in the state. Like I said, it's working.

BTW, I am ashamed to say that I lived in Floriduh during that whole debacle. I got so disgusted with the mentality of Floridians that I packed it in and moved back North.

Kiki & Herb put on an awesome show. If I was an advertisement I'd say something like "Wildly Entertaining!"

Harris is so bad that even the Florida GOP refused to back her, she's using her own money. I can't wait until God bitch slaps her in November.

From the interview with Ms. Harris. http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Harris_Separation_of_church_and_state_0824.html
On civil rights for gays: "Civil rights have to do with individual rights and I don't think they apply to the gay issues. I have not supported gay marriage and I do not support any civil rights actions with regard to homosexuality."

I live in Tampa, Fl and don't worry, she will not even win the primary, her ship is sinking fast. She is using the god card as a last resort.

I hate Katherine Harris. I hope her fucking legs grow together.

There's a certain smug satisfaction watching the Tart of South Florida (Katharine Harris) sink her own political career by preaching out of one side of her mouth while out of the other side she blows sweet nothings towards all of the Cable News pundits while hiking her skirt On-Camera in a sickening attempt to raise her pole numbers. Katharine Harris can be described as the opportunistic "slut of the month" who desperately want's to go to Washington to get into Dennis Hasterdt's pants... (shudder)
