Mitt Romney Cuts Funding for Gay Youth Suicide Prevention

Romney_3

As a follow-up to his anti-gay marriage rally, evil Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney has cut funding for gay youth suicide prevention programs.

I get it. He's thinking that if we all kill ourselves, there won't be anyone left to get married.

Sorry Mitt, not that easy.

And look who made it (sort of) to last weekend's rally!

  1. "Gay Youth Suicide Prevention Program"? Why do gay youths need their own suicide prevention program? Are they so fucked up and ghettoized that they can't use the "normal" kids suicide prevention programs? Whoever heard of such nonsense! I wish people would stop thinking gay people need "special" programs and neighbourhoods and restaurants and lawyers and EVERYTHING. It's not very inspriring to gay people who aren't completely and entirely obsessed with their sexuality.

  2. I'm so glad this asshat is leaving office.

  3. Speaking of fucked up, Ribbly...

Have you ever been a "gay youth"? Have you any idea what the "normal" suicide prevention hotlines can be like in the States?

You need to start educating yourself before you make such idiotic statements. Unless you're just trying to be clever in which case you should recognize you are not.

  6. Never fear! All will be well when I ascend the throne in January. Gays will no longer commit suicide, Kelly Ripa will not attack gays with vicious homophobic inflections of 'honey' and all boy bands will take up snowboarding.

  7. Suck a razorblade, Ribbly.

WHERE are you HRC? WHERE are you Joe Solomnese? Why aren't you transferring some of your millions of dollars to GLSEN and PFLAG to fill the streets around the governor's mansion with people of all kinds calling this 21st century neo-Nazi out for what he is?

    Posted by: Leland | Nov 22, 2006 1:50:50 PM

  8. Wow, Ripply, you surely are one truly fucked up human being. Nothing more can be said.

Actually Augusto, Mitt Romney is very low on the list of the Republican potentials to be nominated for the presidental run. This gay marriage issue seems to be his last ditch effort to try to get some national recognition for the party, but Republicans aren't like going to be focusing on any gay issues in the next several elections. They have much bigger problems.

  9. I think Ribbly was being facetious.

  10. Look at what he's doing with his right hand, Leland. He isn't a "neo"-nazi, at all.

    Posted by: JT | Nov 22, 2006 2:04:01 PM

  11. YIKES! Ok, I guess my sarcasm didn't ring as clear as I'd hoped. Thank you, Bryce, I WAS being facetious. I'll admit I don't know much about kids help programs in the States, I do live in Toronto after all, but I'd never seriously suggest that they cut funding to any kind of project like this. Whoops!

  12. I'm a gay man... and i agree with Ribbly... if you want to be treated like everyone else, stop asking for specials laws and protections. It makes the gay community look well... kinda gay!

And according to Andy... Mitt is EVIL!!! because he thinks differrently then you... and doesn't feel the need to fund special "gay" teen suicide prevention... Why can't the gay teens just call the regular "teen suicide hotline"? LIKE EVERYONE ELSE!!! that what EQUALITY is ALL ABOUT! I am sure regular teen suicide prevention organizations are more then adiquetly prepared to deal with sexuality issues... BUT alas... Leland and the boys here FEEL they need a "special" gay place to go for all there suicide prevention needs. PLEAZZZE!!!

  13. Mark, You could not possible be more uninformed, if not egregiously stupid. How many times were you dropped on your head as an infant?

    Posted by: rudy | Nov 22, 2006 2:31:32 PM

  14. Rudy,

how cute of you... i bet you think your clever... your not.

Calling me stupid is a perfect indication that you, my friend, have no argument. ALL TEENS, gay or straight, should have access to suicide prevention materials and support... But hey, your fuck the straight kids motto is cool with me. just don't call yourself "inclusive"!

    Posted by: mark | Nov 22, 2006 2:38:50 PM

  15. Mark, you are being seriously stupid if not just "cleverly" obtuse.

Do you know how many suicide prevention hotlines there are that are funded and staffed only by the same "Christians" who would seek to obliterate your gay ass? Do you think they're going to be able to effectively convey to a gay (or just questioning) young person that they will be OK and that the problem does not lie within them?

P.S. Your usage of the word gay as a pejorative word is simply...disgusting.

    Posted by: Rey | Nov 22, 2006 2:50:02 PM

  16. Sorry, Ribbly. Please pass the razorblade to Mark.

Mark, I believe your ignorance regarding the unique REAL needs of gay teens is less the issue than your need to defend fascists like Romney simply because they are a member of a party that you apparently identify with AND your desire to provoke. Attention everyone: further ping ponging with Mark will only give him a hard on.

  17. pls people, when attacking each other on the day before thanksgiving, use proper punctuation.

To create contractions, meet The Apostrophe. It's generally located above the 'Tab' key on your keyboard.

  18. Mark: First, you are probably not aware that gay youths have particular problems not shared by the straight population. Second, most of the counselors on general suicide prevention hotlines aren’t as well-versed in those particular problems as counselors on gay-focused hotlines. Third, you aren’t exactly stupid. It’s more like you’re ignorant. Rudy doesn’t say “fuck the straight kids” and really does give support to your assertion that everyone should be provided services.

But, before a service can be received, both the service provider and the recipient need to speak a common language. Gay-oriented help lines help in communicating in a common language, to articulate challenges unique to the gay world; just as hotlines in other languages provide help to foreign nationals in a common tongue.

As far as attaching the appellation "evil" to Gov. Romney, all the definitions of evil indicate that it is a characteristic of malicious intent, disdain and desire to injure. That'd be Gov. Romney.

  19. Romney is a walking advertisement for Planned Parenthood, and abortion rights. Maybe they could do one retroactive?

And Ribbly, Marks comments show just how careful we need to be about joking on such serious topics.

And B MAC, Mark did get the last 'your' right, so he's not a complete idiot, just 99% one. ;)

  20. Rey,

you said: Your usage of the word gay as a pejorative word is simply...disgusting.

I guess your OK only when you use the word pejoratively... like when you refer to me as "gay ass"

AND, i bet you we're OK with Bill Maher and others calling Mark Foley "GAY" and all the democrats calling him a pedophile. (which he is not, all those young men we're post pubescent) BUT, it All depends on YOUR point of view...

Leland, wrong line agian... and as usual your not addressing my point:

My point agian: Shouldn't ALL teens have access to the same public information and resources? Why the need for "special treatment"

"Special Laws" do the opposite of what you would like to think they do. Special laws isolate and SEPERATE the gay community. If you want to be accepted by everyone and treated EQUALLY, then stop demanding all the special attention! It makes the gay community look like a bunch of cry babies.

B MAC- thanks for the grammar lesson, your incites have been truly enlightening...

Rey: Have "christian" organizations taken over Mass. state. Is the new gay suicide hotline a "faith based intiative" I THINK NOT! Stop being soooooo paranoid of the EVIL CHRISTIANS COMING TO GET YOU!!!

    Posted by: mark | Nov 22, 2006 3:22:01 PM

  21. Whatever, dude.

I called out your gay ass because that's exactly what it is, correct? Don't you identify as gay? Thus, your ass, by default is an ass belonging to a gay. Bill Maher calling Mark Foley "gay"? I believe, as big of a closet case as he is, Foley is gay. As in homosexual.

WRT your insane comment labeling me as a paranoid person, I suggest you educate yourself further with respect to what organizations run the suicide hotlines in our country. You might be surprised.

Don't try to nitpick with me. You will just look stupider than you already are; which of course, is not much of a stretch. Focus on the issues and stop trying to make yourself look cool. You are not.

  22. Gentlemen (a salutation that cannot--in light of his rantings--include Mark), Why bother addressing this obviously needy creature? Mark cannot possibly be as stupid as his grammatical and logical error-filled rantings would lead one to conclude. Like many a frustrated two year old, he is merely trying to provoke a reaction. JT, thank you for taking him on with your reasoned posting but I fear that persuasion based on facts and logic are beyond his capability. Have a good Thanksgiving. The gay community has much to be thankful for this year. We have not yet won the war but we were victorious in many key battles.

    Posted by: rudy | Nov 22, 2006 3:54:04 PM

  23. Rudy: Thanks for your musings on what we have to be thankful for. I have to say that I am sincerly thankful for Andy and the forum he gives us. Even the occasional flights of weirdness like our pal today. I think Mark is probably, at best, a teenager trying to play in the big league. Rey, take care. Zeke, it's good to have you back in the land of the living. And to my dear, dear Leland: Keep taking your medication.

  24. and as usual... no one is able to respond to my actual post and its point... so they name call and nitpick...

Creating "special laws" for gays is not a good long term gay right strategy. To be accepted equally you need to be willing to be treated EQUALLY!

REY-i have never heard of state funded suicide hotlines prostlitising... please supply me with an example or two. As i am less willing to label all christians as evil, gay haters because some may not want to pay for "seperate" gay teen suicide prevention programs, as apposed to say... teen suicide prevention programs...can't the regular old "teen suicide prevention programs" be incorporated to include information on gay and lesbian issues (if they haven't already) Why the need to SEPERATE? I'm waiting on those examples... suprise me!

  25. It's funny. I was just thinking the other day that since the election we have not heard from any of the clueless Log Cabin idiots who rant. Welcome back Mark, now please go crawl back under the rock from which you came.
