Isaiah Washington Congratulates T.R. Knight on Emmy Nom
Isaiah Washington, who purposely did not submit his name for Emmy consideration for his work on Grey's Anatomy, yesterday congratulated former co-star T.R. Knight on his nomination in an interview with Billy Bush on Access Hollywood.
Said Washington: "T.R. Knight is a good actor. He has been a wonderful actor from day one. T.R. Knight, congratulations. He finally got the attention he deserved. Whether or not it serves any particular agenda that he’s nominated now, to make a point, I can’t speak on that. That’s theoretical. I don’t know, but good for him."
Washington also explained why he chose to bow out of the awards consideration: "It wasn’t about not submitting because I was afraid of the backlash. I didn’t want the pain of being nominated and losing. I didn’t have a good time at the last Emmys. It was the stress of 'Are we going to win? Are we going to win?' the whole day. I remember being on the red carpet and it was hot and my wife and I had the biggest argument because of my nerves."
Bush and Washington also briefly discussed, once again, the second f-bomb slur Washington used at the Golden Globes ceremony, saying that it was an "attempt to disarm everybody and address the big elephant in the room."
Admitted Washington: "It backfired hugely."

He's nutty. And the Ego is so huge...he's actually saying he would rather not receive an Emmy nomination because he might not win? That's pretty vain and odd. But I think his saying that the 2nd F-bomb (? I thought "fuck" was the F-bomb) was a backfired attempt to disarm is absolutely true—that was definitely what he was doing, but in so doing, he was also showing that he didn't truly get the significance of what had come before that. I can't believe he got a job so quickly. Yes on second chances, but...would you want to be his director?
Posted by: Matthew Rettenmund | Jul 20, 2007 9:22:17 AM
OK, he's had his 15 minutes. Unless something happens, Andy, I'd appreciate no more posts about what Washington has to say about anything to anyone - - he's getting far too much attention for being a jackass. I'd rather my attention be directed back at Paris Hilton than this...
Posted by: BeeDee | Jul 20, 2007 10:09:25 AM
Please oh please stop giving Isaiah so much ink. He doesn't deserve it and this story is just tired.
Posted by: rynyc | Jul 20, 2007 10:14:42 AM
What a grade-A asshole.
Equating Knight's nomination with a possible "agenda"... I'm just at a loss.
But I know I won't be watching "Bionic Woman" now. I'd hate to serve whatever agenda his being cast in the show represents.
Posted by: Rey | Jul 20, 2007 10:29:11 AM
Wow. That's the most backhanded congratulations I have ever heard. I agree with the previous commenters that it's time to stop giving this jerk a forum.

Oh, and I love how this hothead points out that he and his wife fought at the last Emmys due to his "nerves".
"Honey, I can't help it - it's my nerves!"
And the poor little bitch can't stand to be nominated because he doesn't know if he'll win or not.
What a putz.

The man Congratulates the coward in the closet Knight and yet you guys still insult him.
Lets call a spade a spade, some gay white guys are as racist as they come, its unfortunate that they cant join the KKK because they are discriminate toward sexuality. Thats the only reason, I can see for a person, to desperately want a man to suffer, after apologizing, being sent to rehab and getting fired, yet they want him to never work again. The truth be told, if he was white, you guys wouldn't even give a damn about writing on this blog. So dont deceive yourself, you go on every blog about Isiah, looking for something negative to say about him. people like you, help propagate hate among gays, because they think most are as wicked hearted as you.
I am proud to say I am watching Bionic Woman and everyone I know is also watching it. So you bigots, can jump over a bridge
Posted by: Brandon | Jul 20, 2007 12:21:46 PM
I'll tell you what's tired, is anyone who says I'm a bigot or a racist for calling Washington out for his continued asshole behavior.
Washington is not sorry, he doesn't think that he has done anything wrong- if he did, he wouldn't keep making excuses, giving non-apologies, and serving up insults in the form of bakchanded congratulations.
His actual public behavior has nothing to do with his race. Holding him or any other public figure responsible for his actions has nothing to do with race. If you can't see that, then you're the one who needs to get over himself.
Posted by: mimi | Jul 20, 2007 12:57:49 PM
Brandon, it is SO obvious you don't know what in the hell you're talking about.
Faggot.
Posted by: Rey | Jul 20, 2007 1:28:43 PM
Oh, yeah, Brandon, you are soooooo absolutely beyond a doubt perfectly divinely right. That's why on this very same blog the "bigots" are falling all over themselves to praise the glorious hotness of Shemar Moore.
Get a life you race card playing idiot. Isaiah Washington is a douche bag, whatever his race may be.
Posted by: Gregg | Jul 20, 2007 1:28:52 PM
And Brandon, I think you still had Bionics on the brain when you told us to jump "over" a bridge.
Posted by: Gregg | Jul 20, 2007 1:32:29 PM
And I really hate when racist people like Brandon try to make an issue out of something like this while completely ignoring the examples of white homophobes (like Mel Gibson) who are justly condemned for their similar behavior.
As much as I am not a fan of Gibson, at least he's never tried choking a co-worker that I know of.
Posted by: Rey | Jul 20, 2007 1:34:31 PM
Brandon,
Really, honey, I don't want you to embarrass yourself any more than you have to. So, I'm going to take a moment to tell you that no one here has a problem with Isaiah Washington's race. We have a problem with the fact that he A) choked a co-worker B) called another homosexual co-worker 'faggot' C) repeated the word 'faggot' on air over and over and over again, and D) seems to have apologized not out of any sincere contrition, but rather because he deemed it necessary to save his own hide.
Please stop playing the race card in this instance. It diminishes all those other horrible incidents of true racism that, unfortunately, occur on a daily basis out in the real world.

Y'all will never understand why a black person can see clearly how Brandon's comments were In RESPONSE to the anti-black comments made on this blog and others. I said I was so tired of this issue that I didn't want to post about it anymore, but I'm not sure that any black man/woman/child/queen could read the "lynching" of Brandon going on here and not respond.
And, Dan, where you come from with you pleasant, friendly self. Don't you know this space is reserved for bit...
Posted by: Derrick from Philly | Jul 20, 2007 2:46:21 PM
DOAWG, if we are all, as you say, 'racist-in-denial' then why, as Gregg pointed out, are there so many posts attesting to our collective attraction to Shemar Moore (not to mention Reggie Bush, Ellis Hobbs, Isaiah Stanback, etc...)?
Posted by: peterparker | Jul 20, 2007 2:53:06 PM
When this issue first surfaced many black gays (especially me) were furious at Isaiah Washington. I equated the word "faggot" with the word "nigger" immediately. But when I started to read the comments from white posters I realized, "Hey, they're not just 'readin' that kooky actor, they're 'readin' all black folks." It was like y'all were saying,"you niggers ought to know better than to be homophobic because of your history of being persecuted." Well, our response was, "when y'all do something about racism in the white gay world, THEN y'all can come to us and tell us what we as a race should 'know better' than to do."
I've been fighting this issue from both sides now on both black and white blogs, but unlike Hillary I can't say, "I aint no ways tired." I AM!
Posted by: Derrick from philly | Jul 20, 2007 3:18:53 PM
This is the funny part, I am one eight black and Asian. To start with,
First, Isaiah didn't call T.R Knight the F bomb, he called Patrick, T.R lied about it on Ellen.
Secondly, I.W got angry and blurted out words, the same way most of you her have insulted me after my post, while I was referring to the bigots amongst you, well maybe it was the bigots that responded.
Thirdly, you guys claiming this isn't about racism, ask yourself why black gays have embrassed his apology and only the white gays like you guys are over here insulting him on any blog you can find.
To Mimi, if I.W didn't speak out, I like you would have felt he called Isiah the f word and have believed him a homophobe. If you say he might have anger issues, then I would agree with you, if you says he should have used a better word then I agree with you, but you are not God to come out and say his apology was fake because I do remember that I was one of the people demanding he apologizes for using that word, and i am sure you were too
Rey, you called me the F word and you honestly think that helps drive your point or it just shows people dont always have control of their words when they write. And interesting thing about your post is, you brought up mel Gibson. Gibson would tell us to our faces that he cant stand us, while you have I.W who has played a gay character, is a friend to melissa estheridge, apologize for using a word and yet you spend your time crucifying him.
Gregg, gregg, gregg, Smart Racism 101, when you attack an individual because of his race you praise another person of that same race, to make yourself look good. Be honest, you dont even have any black friends and dont lie, you've used the N word when there are no blacks around
Peter Parker, nice moniker. You said the reasons you cared about I.W is because
A) he choked another castmate-- yeah right, dont let me tell you what Johnny Depp, Val Kilmer, Sean penn have done on the set and yet, i didn't see you giving a damn about what they did.
B) called another homosexual co-worker 'faggot' -- This is the reason Isiah does interviews, to educate people like you about the truth. he said it to Patrick and he emphasized he didn't call T. R Knight the F word, which people like you purposely twist to make it seem like he said it publicly for the sake of using the word
C) repeated the word 'faggot' on air over and over and over again, --- Okay serious Peter are you T.R Knight, over and over again. Twice. first time he said it anger and he apologized, second time it was in reference to a question asked. You should be glad Isaiah made the word unacceptable on T.V. Oddly, i dont see anyone attacking the reporter that said and I quote, "Did Isaiah washington call T.R Knight a F$gg*t" Naw, forget the white reporter that asked the question, go after the black man
D) seems to have apologized not out of any sincere contrition, but rather because he deemed it necessary to save his own hide --- What do bigots like you peter want. First you wanted him to apologize, he did that wasn't enough, then you wanted him apologize again, then he did, you weren't satisfied. Then you wanted him fired, that they did and you aren't satisfied. Be honest, what did a blck person do to you in the past, is your boss one of those in your face black women. If this prevents you from going crazy then take your anger on I.W
But seriously, you guys need to check out Bionic Woman, I cant wait, and I hope, I, Peter, Mimi and Gregg could watch it together. Who knows, love could be in the air, that if you date men outside your races
Posted by: Brandon | Jul 20, 2007 4:21:19 PM
I love it when people use the word "agenda"--right there I know where they are coming from.
Also, I think this new version of "Bionic Woman" should be called "Bionic Girl". And, quite honestly, unless they have fembots, I don't care.
Posted by: BIMBO_ERUPTION | Jul 20, 2007 4:52:14 PM
IW got it wrong yet again. T.R. doesn't deserve that nomination. It's a pity nomination. However, I really wish IW would just shut the fuck up. Either remain silent or say congratulations. It's that simple.
Though I think some of the IW supporters do go a little above and beyond in their support of him, there is a tinge of truth to some of the arguments against the haters. And the worst argument to prove that you're not a racist is to say you have a black friend or totally find one fo them hot, especially when is light skinned Shemar Moore.

Ya gotta remember that the the bionic woman had to be revived for the *first* series. She had already died at the end of her two- episode introductory stint on "The Six Million Dollar Man." (I remember. I was a kid. I cried.) Sorry, one resurrection is all you get with me...

Brandon,
Thank you for the compliment on my moniker.
A) I have never heard of Johnny Depp, Sean Penn or Val Kilmer doing or saying anything inappropriate on a film set. However, I know someone who is employed by Val Kilmer, and I've had my own unpleasant encounter with Kilmer. He's an arrogant, washed-up, mean sack of shit. But the behavior of Johnny Depp, Sean Penn and/or Val Kilmer is not the issue here. When/If any one of them chokes a co-worker, calls a co-worker 'faggot' or says 'faggot' several times at an awards show, then we'll take them to task in the *same* way we are taking Isaiah Washington to task.
B) I never said Isaiah Washington called T.R. Knight a faggot to his face. What I've read in the press is that, outside the presence of T.R. Knight, Isaiah Washington said to Patrick Dempsey, "I'm not your faggot like T.R." Whether he said it to T.R. or about him, he STILL called T.R. Knight a faggot.
C) I've done a search on what Isaiah said at the Golden Globes and it appears I was partially wrong. Apparently, he did use the word 'faggot' in the press room when he answered a reporter's question, but, as far as I can tell, he didn't use the word over and over and over. (I might also add that I wasn't particularly offended by what he said in the press room when he answered the reporter's question.) What I was thinking of when I said he used an offensive word over and over and over was what he said that evening on the red carpet. Isaiah said "I love gay. I wanted to be gay. Please let me be gay." No, he didn't use the word faggot, but the outburst seems to me to make light of the fact that he earlier had used a hate word against homosexuals. It showed to me that he does not 'get it' how offensive his earlier behavior was. Can you imagine a white person saying, on the red carpet or anywhere else for that matter, "I love black. I wanted to be black. Please, let me be black."? As for your puzzlement as to why we aren't taking the reporter to task, she didn't call anyone 'faggot'...she only asked if Isaiah Washington had used the word in reference to T.R. Knight. I frankly don't think there is anything wrong with saying things like "He called that guy faggot." or "She said the word nigger." In those cases, the person speaking is only reporting what someone else has said and is not using the word 'faggot' or 'nigger' in a hateful manner. In my opinion, it's only when someone hurls a word like 'nigger' or 'faggot' at another person or uses it to label another or demean another person *that* is when it becomes offensive.
D) How dare you call me a bigot!? You know next to nothing about me. I am offended, and I would appreciate an apology. To answer a few of your questions about my supposed bigotry, when I look back at my life and consider the people who have mistreated me, not many black faces appear in my mind...the haters have almost all been straight white men. I have no lingering trauma from being mistreated by a black person. No, my boss is not an 'in your face black woman'. I don't work for anyone, Brandon. I'm self employed. Though I grew up hearing racist language all around me (I was raised in a small, isolated town in the south), my experience of being a minority (gay) in a world full of straight people gave me a whopping sense of empathy for minorities of any stripe. One of the first conversations I had with my parents after I came out to them was a conversation in which I told them I would no longer tolerate their use of the word 'nigger' because it offended me so badly. (Thank God, they changed their view of people of color as a result of my coming out.). I basically cut my grandfather off because he would not stop using the word. At different points in my life I have had a black roommate (dark as night...none of this Shemar Moore light-skinned stuff), a black best friend and black lovers. In fact, the last date I went on was with a beautiful black guy. And one of my biggest personal heroes is the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King. So don't call me bigot, Brandon. It doesn't stick.
Finally, to answer your question of what I wanted from Isaiah Washington...frankly, I don't really think I wanted anything from him. Once it was reported that he choked Patrick Dempsey and called T.R. Knight a faggot I waited to see if his co-workers would come to his defense and prove the story wrong. They didn't. They either remained silent or confirmed that the incident took place. I never heard a single co-worker deny that the incident had happened. At that point, I realized Washington must have truly physically assaulted Dempsey and called Knight a faggot...and at that point, Isaiah Washington's position was indefensible and unforgiveable. If the roles had been reversed and it had been Dempsey who attacked Washington and called Knight a faggot, then it would have been Dempsey who I would have written off as an unrepentent asshole.
And since you brought up Mel Gibson...I was never much of a fan because he strikes me as a religious wingnut. Following his drunken, racist, anti-semitic tirade in Malibu I decided I would never, ever watch a Mel Gibson film again. I don't believe in putting $$ in the pockets of bigots of any sort.
Have a nice day, Brandon.
xo,
peterparker
(p.s.--I'm still waiting for you to apologize for calling me a bigot.)
Posted by: peterparker | Jul 21, 2007 3:43:36 AM
Wow PETERPARKER,
So basically you can't forgive a stranger for getting into a fight with a coworker and for saying the word faggot but you can forgive your family for saying the word nigger many times over your lifetime.
That whopping sense of empathy you have for other people must only allow you to forgive people you personally know. Given that you feel Isaiah Washington's position was indefensible and unforgiveable.
Maybe he should have should "I'm not your nigger", then you could have forgiven him like you did your family.....lol....I just can't wait tell the next famous person says something bad about gays so we can move on.
Posted by: M.L. Alberts | Jul 21, 2007 8:23:03 AM
This un-forgiveness I feel toward Isaiah has nothing to do with the fact that he initially said "faggot". I was fine with his initial apology.
It has been his continued ignorance and arrogance that has put me off and shown his true colors. He is an asshole who gave a phony apology which he continues to undermine with his own actions.
People make mistakes and if they are truly repentant, then I can easily forgive. IW does not seem truly sorry to me. If he were, he wouldn't continue behaving the way he has.
Regarding BRANDON: I'm not even going to go into the stupidity of your posts, but I do find it interesting that you presume in-depth knowledge of other people whom you have never met. Your posts reveal far more about your ingrained self-victimization than anything about IW or any of the commenters here.
Same goes for Derrick from Philly.

Both Washington and his supporters are dillusional if they still insist this issue has anything to do with race. If an actor of any race said what Washington said, and behaved the way he did after, people would be upset.
Trying to divert responsibility by making up claims of racism is insulting to all involved.
Posted by: jacknasty | Jul 21, 2007 2:00:19 PM
M.L. Alberts...A) I've never known my family members to attack anyone physically. B) They are my *family*, therefore they get a little more leeway than a friend or an acquaintance. They certainly get more leeway than a stranger. C) Since I came out to my familiy and since I explained my thoughts on racism, my family members have done a complete 180 degree turn on the race issue. My family members would *never* say the word nigger again. In fact, my parents now vote Democrat because they are offended by what they perceive as racism and homophobia in the Republican party.

Oh DOAWG - another idiot.
I and others don't dislike Isaiah "for no reason" as your post says. He has done plenty of stupid and offensive things to warrant anyone's dislike, no matter what his race may be.
Since I don't actually know him, and he has no bearing on my life, I don't "hate" him. But I definitely dislike him.
And Baby - I LOVE strong black men. I just despise assholes.
Posted by: Gregg | Jul 21, 2007 9:59:09 PM
Peter Parker, i read your post and your words defined your opinion, after that, I apologize for referring to you as a bigot, Greg in the otherhand, who has apologized and insulted anyone who chose not crucify Isaiah, is definitely T.R Knight's lover. Anyway, Peter, your parents used derogative words and you forgave them for it, if it was Greg's parents using the derogative word, he too would forgive his parents, so why is it more difficult to fo forgive a stranger, who does good work, forget if he's black or white, he wasn't made to serve us, but if he acts well, then he can stick his ego where to sun doesn't shine.
The only sensible thing I have heard from the anti-Isaiah clan, comes from Peter when he said, the I love gay people and all that bullshit, it would have made sense if you called him loquacious person who should shut up, but to call someone in T.V a homophobe or racist, is to destroy their livelihodd, so we should get the facts right.
Also, he didn't say he wasn't a f#gg*t like T.R, he said wasn't the a f#gg*t, an ugly word to use, but he referred to an heterosexual. When I was working in L.A, two white guys kept calling themselves the N word where I worked, because apparently, i dont look black in any way. And I didn't take offense to it, as ugly as the word was, it wasn't use to debase anyone based on the color of their skin, it was just two young white guys playing around because there was no black person present. And when I went to england, the white chaps refer to themselves that way, in the front of blacks, and noone of them take offense because its not about racism or, debasing the other person based on the color of their skin. Now if, you guys are saying he insulted Dempsey based on his sexuality, then he is a homophobe, if not, you are using the circumstance to bring him down for reasons I just have to say, are based on his skin color. I do feel the f word and N word are ugly words to use, but I feel the content behind the words are more important. When Michael richards referred to those black boys as N word, he said if it was the old days, he would have hooked them up with a pitch fork. That they are nothing but the N words. he went directly on them based on their skin color, emphasized that if it was in the days they hung blacks, they would have been hanged. These are two totally different situation, and its based on content. That said, Seinfield DVD was releases and it sold record numbers in the next week after Richards Ranting, and presently he has gotten a voicing gig, something he couldn't get the year before. Do I want Richards life destroyed because of his ranting. No and i am part black. So you guys have the responsibilty to show what the gay heart is all about and let this go, because the resentment for an actor based on the words he used to a heterosexual, are just not worth it.
N.B--- Sean Penn beat the crap out of a reporter, Val Kilmer choked Joel Schumacher on the set of Batman forever and Depp had a drug related case that involved others. We all moved on with this guy and why is it the black guys case is different

I am curious, how does Greg, know the difference between a sincere and an insincere apology, is he God, or when someone keeps apologizing continously he is a fake, so Isaiah was supposed to apologize once and move on. I really dont get it, or is this a power thing, that he likes using his power to make another man beg

Wow - people here are ridiculous. And, yes I'm looking at you Brandon, Johnny, and Doawg (although at least you, Doawg, had the courtesy to spell my name correctly)
Let me quote myself from earlier in this page: "IW does not seem truly sorry to me." Note that I didn't say IW is not sorry. I cannot know that, as I am not god (even though you guys seem to think that I think I am).
My reaction to IW is my own. He is a liar, a jerk, an asshole, and a bad actor. So suck it, as Kathy Griffin would say.
I love that you guys cannot allow someone to have a negative opinon of IW without it somehow being racism/power. Grow up. You guys are being the racists by linking everything to IW's race. I just think he's a jerk.
PS - are you guys drunk or high when you write these posts? Because your syntax is just nuts!
