Colorado Gets First Openly Gay Male State Legislator

Rep. Mike Cerbo (D-Denver) resigned from his seat in the state legislature last week to become head of the Colorado AFL-CIO. He was replaced this week by Mark Ferrandino, treasurer of the Colorado Democratic Party and former co-chairman of the Colorado Stonewall Democrats.

Ferrandino"A vacancy committee of party activists and local elected Democrats voted 23-3 in favor of the 30-year-old fiscal policy wonk at a meeting Wednesday night," the Rocky Mountain News reports.

Said Ferrandino: "I'm proud to be representing my constituents and the GLBT community. I'm a qualified Democrat who wants to do good, who also happens to be gay...I want to make life better for the people of the state of Colorado."

Colorado does have a state lawmaker who is a lesbian — Jennifer Veiga (D-Denver) was elected to the House in 1996.

Andy, that headline should read, "Colorado Gets First OPENLY or OUT Gay Male State Legislator".

Fernandino is certainly not the FIRST gay male state legislator.

Hey Andy...
Why am I seeing a 'Jessica Simpson Jiggly' video link above this article? I don't want to watch girl parts jiggle...especially when they are attached to a Republican bobble head like Simpson.
