Death from Above

Definitely one of the most fascinating nature videos I've seen since the amateur Kruger National Park lion-crocodile-water buffalo battle, this clip of Golden Eagles hunting mountain goats is not for those who get squeamish at seeing small animals preyed upon.
It is, however, a warning to hold tight to your kids when entering eagle territory.
Watch it, AFTER THE JUMP...

Fascinating, but I couldn't help but think of my poor dogs, who would both make a light snack for the eagle.

LOL! You said "kids". Haaaahahahahah. What a knee-slapper. CABRITO!

Yikes!! Well, birds used to be dinosaurs remember. So the evil lives on. Seems a bit of a cheat though to knock them off the cliff to kill them. But one had the strength to carry the whole buffet to the nest. Good on her.

Sometimes nature aint pretty. Sharks, crocodiles, rats, mice, roaches, mosquitoes, scabies & lice, adult humans...and now, eagles: animals to stay away from.

I'm a little suspicious of the video, especially with the editing of entire sequences from multiple locations. Most nature shoots are not big productions with multiple cameras. They must have edited many bits of footage together shot at different times. Which means those eagles must be eating a whole lot of goats!

Weird! This is the same method I use to pick up men at THE EAGLE. I throw them from the second story window and pick them up on the sidewalk. By the time they regain consciousness, my business is done.
Lest you think I'm a brut, I always provide cab fare home.

LOL@JOHN IN MANHATTAN
Wonderful method--if you're a "top". But that can't work for "bottoms". After he hits the sidewalk he's probably knocked out. I've never heard of an unconscious man with an erection...unless he's dead. I've heard of dead men with hard ons. But that would be necrophilia, wouldn't it? Oh, I don't care--I'm gonna' try it.

Umm... And this has to do with gay news for gay men... how? OIC MORE than gay news.
(In Brother Boy voice) "Myooooookay..."

Cheat? Evil? She's just trying to feed her chicks!
Please, a little more appreciation, and a little less judgment of nature.

Why wasn't there a puff of smoke when the goat landed, like Wile E. Coyote always had?

spaniard w/ a catalan accent gives it a nice touch. Cabrón!

Yet another phobia to add to the list...

Jeez... I'm going to go with the comment:
"LOL! You said "kids". Haaaahahahahah. What a knee-slapper. CABRITO!"
I'm pretty sure those things, if they wanted to, could knock off some pretty big "kids" from those heights.

I highly recommend Seton Gordon's book "The Golden Eagle: King of Birds." This story pales next to some of Gordon's accounts, which include the use of eagles in wolf and fox hunting, eagles attacking cows and horses in an attempt to drive them over a cliff, and even an enraged eagle fatally severing an artery in its trainer's next after failing to capture a fox. They're no joke.

There's a campground here in Florida that has owls, hawks and eagles that often swoop down and fly off with screeching squirles and cats. I was there one weekend when a hawk flew off with a couple's Yorkie terrier. They were warned over and over to not let their tiny dog wander away from them off of a leash. They didn't listen and now they are one less "Precious".

Dear Andy Onemous:
I've got an idea that's a win-win: Why don't you start your own gay blog with all gay news all the time.
Posted by: Pierre | Apr 17, 2008 2:53:41 PM
Oh - and Golden Eagles Rock...:)
Posted by: Pierre | Apr 17, 2008 2:55:02 PM
That is rather amazing. Nature is smart, no?

Ah, it takes me back to my college days when, every Saturday night at midnight they'd kick off "Fright Night at the Movies" at the Student Union with a showing of my favorite cartoon of all time:
"Bambi Meets Godzilla."
It was probably only funny because we'd be really ripped at the time.

This is quite possibly the greatest video of all time. It is glorious.

There is very little simpathy here for the frickin' goats. Well, I'm not crazy about goats either, but, MY GOD! Those mean-ass birds make me think of rifles.

"sympathy" went to the dictionary-- the British spell it the same way, so I couldn't pull a fast one on this spelling fuck up.

Andy Onemus- Are you really that ignorant that you only read "gay news? -It's ok to be Gay but don't isolate yourself!!!!!. I thought this was pretty good, kind of sad to see the goats getting killed like that.

Amazing post, Andy. Next time I have a bad day, I'm gonna remind myself, "At least I'm not a goat!"

It's from a Spanish tv series circa 1975. He says that they only prey on the ill ones and all they want is to feed themselves and their breed. Also that we do the same thing, less dramatically though.
Apart from that, the story was made up, the scene was prepared (That explain so many cameras). Sorry folks, but it was a trained eagle. They used to do that to show us what we couldn't see otherwise.
Yet fascinating, grat post.
