He really struggles with the color pink."

We need to stop thinking of ourselves as 'us' and 'them.' We hope the families of Lakewood Church will open their hearts and minds to us and sit down and have a conversation and share a meal. ... Let's put our differences aside and share the love and hope of Christ."

Cornelius, a University of California, Irvine, police employee currently on paid leave, is still being investigated by the university to determine if he violated college policies. Photographs of youths as young as 14 taken by Cornelius and Rockwell appeared on homosexual pornographic Web sites. But district attorney's office spokeswoman Farrah Emami says 'legally there were no criminal charges we could file.'"

Patricia Todd, she announced that the Alabama House of Representatives passed the Hate Crimes Bill sponsored by Rep. Alvin Holmes of Montgomery by a vote of 46 to 44, mostly along party lines. While the fate of the bill is unsure as it moves to the Senate, this is huge progress, as the legislation was defeated last year. Also passed (unanimously) was an anti-bullying bill sponsored by Rep. Betty Carol Graham of Alexander City and Sen. Parker Griffith of Huntsville. This is also going to to the Senate."

  2. Oh, wait! Are Dolphins fish or mammals. I know the big Orca girls are mammals, but what about the....oh, it doesn't matter. They shouldn't eat Dolphins! The should eat fishermen & sharks.

  6. Yay for the homecoming queen!!I mean king! The article was painful to read though.

I dunno what the hell McGreevey was thinking engaging in a ménage à trois without moi in it!!

Oh and D, apparently they're both marine mammals and "related". Whatever that means!

    Playing devil's advocate here

BUT if the Orcas didn't hunt dolphins and whales then their respective populations would grow too large for their food suplies and large numbers of them would die instead of the few weak and sick ones that get picked off from the larger group. (long winded run on sentence there)

Think wolves of the oceans serving a larger purpose. Though I dol love me some dolphins and whales.

Check this site out on the coolest ever vacation possible. swimming with whales.

Supposedly you can feel their whale song vibrating all of your organs inside your body. So cool. I am totaly saving up and planning a trip next year.

  9. OK, JIMMYBOYO, I know you're right. Nature aint always pretty.

Let the big ol' whales eat their sweet, gentle cousins: the dolphins. Well then, don't anybody complain about Jeffrey Dahmer, then!

Remember Flipper, Leland? Could you imagine Flipper being in the jaws of one of those Orkas?

  10. That SME homecoming king article should be nominated for some sort of razzie award for poor writing--it's excruciatingly bad.

  11. :-) NO

flipper would be a bit much

  12. Heartbreaking is a good one word summary of the NPR piece, which I happened to hear on the way home from work. I almost had to pull over it was so emotionally wrenching. Why anyone thinks a person would choose to be transgendered and endure that level of hardships is a mystery to me. The same could be said for gays & lesbians, but it's especially true for our transgendered friends. I've sometimes felt uncomfortable around transgendered people, but for no good reason.

  13. I flipped the station to NPR on the way home today and heard the first part of the transgender child story. It was very touching to hear of the one family who supported their daughter's wish to be treated as such. I was unable to hear the other story, which from the quote, seems like a less positive experience...

  14. The homecoming king article was very sweet. It was just excruciatingly long. Still, thanks to Andy for pointing to it.

  15. The really vile thing is that Ken Zucker (the psychologist who advocated coercive therapy to get kids to express their "proper" gender) was just appointed to the Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders Work Group, work will work on thE next version of the American Psychological Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Second Edition The DSM is standard reference book for shrinks, and it's the one that listed homosexuality as a mental illness until 1973, and still lists both "gender identity disorder" and "transvestic fetishism" as mental illnesses.

As trans activist Donna Rose aptly put, the lunatics have been appointed to run the asylum.

FWIW, the idea of de-listing "gender identity disorder" is a bit controversial within the trans communities because it's usually a required diagnosis for those seeking surgical changes to their bodies.

So there's fears that de-listing would eliminate insurance (for the few lucky enough to be covered) for genital reassignment surgeries. So the psychologists who've been working with trans people, and who are pushing for the DSM to be changed, generally are taking the tack that GID is a medical condition that may require treatment, but not a mental illness.

(One thing that's commonly overlooked about the DSM -- especially by the fundies who use it to call us crazy -- is that the DSM also includes a variety of things that are considered within the "normal" range of human behavior so that psychologists have a standard terminology and to aid in differential diagnoses.)

  16. That story on NPR about the kid Bradley made me wannna cry. Jeezus KerIST!! Let the poor kid have his dollies and pink! What the fuck happened to singing "Billy wants a doll" and tolerance? Bullies beat up a kindergartener and his parents think "They're RIGHT! He's too femme! Let's butch him up!"

That kid is going to grow up to be one bitter, angry self-loathing train wreck!

    Posted by: Wheey | May 8, 2008 11:39:16 PM

  17. And as the commentator's on Dan Savage's slog put it "...you'll pry the rainbow unicorn from my cold, dead hand!"

  18. Dax Shepard is gross and looks like trailer trash who would cook crystal meth or something.

That's funny about Mario Lopez. He's a diva alright, but still very hot.

  19. Yes, the homecoming article was pretty badly written. But hey, it's the Pitch. (Like the LA Weekly, but worse. Same idea.) I graduated from this high school in '00, and Matt's experience is not that different from mine... granted I wasn't Homecoming King, or a cheerleader. But I didn't get any sh*t for being publicly out, either. They may say that SME (we call it "Shawnee Mission Wonderful") is conservative - but it's not, really. It's always been very progressive.

  20. Seriously Dax is a trash can..... may be he should start sitting on the bench...
