Go girl. That little girl has got a good head on her shoulders. Name calling, especially by an elected official, is never appropriate. And right wing christians are scary, very scary.

That little girl, has some skills...she quietly and calmly ripped Mrs. Conyers a new one....i hope she was taking notes.

I agree, TAMPADAVE, she made Mrs Conyers look like a damn fool. And Jimmy Carter makes Mr Conyers look like a pawn...when it comes to US Foreign Policy.

I can't believe that Monica Conyers actually tried to argue with the 8th grader. No wonder she makes a fool of herself on counsel, she can't even handle a little girl. By the way, that girl was totally awesome.

Rod Parsly is a raging homophobe and bigot, and, yet another one that has been given a pass by the media.

LOL! I'm so mad that woman was arguing with an 8th grader. A total mess!

"When I am president"...we will have 19% interest rates, gas will be $4 a gallon, we will be held hostage in the middle east and be a laughing stock on the world stage. Wait Jimmy, that was YOUR presidency! If you have nothing new to say go build something.

RB--
The price of gasoline rose during the Carter presidency because OPEC decided, during the Nixon administration, to reduce supplies of oil, leading to a dramatic increase in the price of oil and gasoline. Carter had no power to control OPEC. He did, however, suggest that Americans reduce their consumption of oil/gasoline by lowering thermostats in the winter, using solar energy (he installed solar panels on the roof of the White House), and driving less. At the time, the American population considered Carter's suggestions ludicrous. Fast forward to the present when renewable energy, hybrid vehicles and the idea of lowering one's carbon footprint are widely accepted as good ideas. Carter was ahead of his time on the issue of energy. (By the way, Reagan removed the solar panels from the roof of the White House pretty much the minute he moved into the place.)
The rise in interest rates during the Carter years was the result of a decision by Paul Volcker, who was appointed Chairman of the Federal Reserve by Carter, to raise interest rates in order to combat stagflation. Inflation was lowered successfully from 13.5% in 1981 to 3.2% in 1983. It is worth noting that Ronald Reagan reappointed Volcker chairman of the Federal Reserve, so he must have thought Carter's appointee performed well.
As for the Iran hostage crisis, it is Carter, not Reagan who is credited with negotiating the release of the hostages. The release was negotiated in the final days of Carter's term, however, the hostages were not formally released until moments after Reagan was sworn into office. Reagan, recognizing that it was Carter who had secured the release of the hostages, did not go to Rhein-Main Airbase in West Germany to receive the hostages but instead sent Carter as the official U.S. emissary.
And finally, Carter was one of the first U.S. President to address LGBT issues, opposing a California ballot measure that sought to ban gays and supporters of gay rights from teaching in public schools. His administration was the FIRST to meet with gay rights activists. And he has recently stated that he is in favor of civil unions and ending the ban of gays in the military. Can you name one Republican who was/is that progressive on the topic of LGBT rights?

Absolutely, PETERPARKER,
and some economist have argued that it was Jimmy Carter's responsible managing of the federal budget that led to the US' economic upturn in 1980s, not Ronald Reagan's irresponsible tax cuts. Reagan (just as Baby Bush will do) left the White House with huge a federal deficit. Nixon & Reagan changed the Republican Party's doctrine of fiscal responsiblity--that's why Papa Bush couldn't stomach it. And the American people...well, the majority of American people never benefit from huge federal deficits--only the rich seem to get something.
Jimmy Carter began his political career as a segregationist, he will end his life as a great statesman and humanitarian. He's almost as great a man as Miss Lillian was a great woman.
Yes, my family is from Georgia.
John McCain is beatable by Barack or Hillary...but with a spectacular choice for a vice-presidential nominee.

Damn, PeterParker... fucking spot-on.
Jimmy Carter is one of the most credible and influential voices of reason in our country today, and has created the bar by which all future post-presidencies will be judged. I have enormous respect for him, and for his lifetime of service to our country.

Peter, my friend, you are so far left that you cannot see the truth. Besides, I long since gave up on you and your opinion. Apparently, you "spin" better than the right!

RB--
The only opinion I expressed in the post above was the following statement: "Carter was ahead of his time on the issue of energy." The rest of my post is indisputable fact.
Oil prices rose during the Carter administration because OPEC reduced the supply of oil worldwide. Having no control over OPEC or the price of oil, Carter made common sense suggestions to the American people encouraging them to reduce their consumption of foreign oil/gasoline. Americans did not want to reduce their use of oil. Most of us have now woken up to the need to use cleaner, renewable energy both as a way of protecting the earth and as a way of freeing ourself from dependance on foreign oil.
Carter's Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, Paul Volcker, set in motion the rise in interest rates in an attempt to slow inflation. The policy put in place during the Carter administration continued into the Reagan administration and resulted in a dramatic decrease in inflation by 1983. Reagan reappointed him in 1983.
The Iranian Hostage Crisis ended on January 19, 1981 with the signing of the Algiers Accords. The U.S. chief negotiator was then Deputy Secretary of State Warren Christopher who served under Jimmy Carter. Ronald Reagan was sworn into office on January 20, 1981, the day after the signing of the Algiers Accords. Neither Reagan nor anyone from his administration played any part in the release of the U.S. hostages in Iran.
Jimmy Carter was the first sitting U.S. President to meet with GLBT activists in the White House. He opposed a California ballot measure that sought to ban gays and lesbians from teaching in the California public school system. He has spoken out in favor of civil unions and in opposition to the ban on gays in the military.
Everything I've stated here is fact, RB. If you want to research it to find out for yourself I invite you to do so.
