Obama-Lincoln Gets the Rainbow Treatment in Boston

A show called "a politic" opened over the holiday weekend at Gallery XIV in Boston. Accompanying it was a legally-posted Warholized billboard installation of Ron English's "Obama-Lincoln" fusion portrait. Given its prismatic tints, it's a shame it wasn't up for gay pride.
UPDATE: The enthusiasm of English fans, who have pasted the image all around the city, has caused a major stink among local businesses and residents.
AnimalNewYork has a slide show of the installation, and you can check out a video

warholized? give me a break!
just because the portrait image is repeated and in bright colors does not in any way link this work to Warhol's style or concepts.

Give me a break, indeed. He may be good, great even, but this idolatry is becoming cloying, annoying, and overdone.

Gallery XIV has been flooded with phone calls because they printed these images in 11x17 poster size and then glued them all over the South End including businesses and residences.

This is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen. It diminishes the dignity of his campaign and gives fuel to those who claim that he is "deified" by his supporters. I hope they take that tacky shit down soon!

I'm a little surprised by all the negative reaction.

"I knew Abraham Lincoln. I worked with Abraham Lincoln And Mr. Obama, you're no Abraham Lincoln."

It's more a goof than a work of art.
The negative reaction is with having to watch these damn things peel off over the next several months. At the gallery on the construction wall, who cares?
But they're scattered around the neighborhood on buildings, mailboxes, the side of a church. If they came down as easily as they went up, no one would care.

Fusing two heads together is just creepy. This crap belongs on Conan O'Brian. It is not art.

I think it's awesome. If they made wall posters of it I'd snap one up in a second.

Lincoln
Illinois state Senator
Obama
Illinois state senator and Illinois Fed Senator
Lincoln
preserved the union
Obama
trying to unify america
Lincoln
needed during america's darkest days
Obama
needed (heck any dem) during america's newest darkest days ala bushco
It is kind of cheesy.
A better pic would be Obama standing at the feet of the Lincoln statue in the Lincoln memorial ,looking up at lincoln's face, a shaft of light highlighting Obama.

Are you people as bitter and unhappy in real time as you are on this site? Some of you just post the same negative diatribes day in and day out, sad. The pic's look fine to me, and, thanks to Andy for posting them.

Lincoln, Republican
Obama, Democrat
That's what I find odd about this mashup.
Jimmyboyo, your "better pic" would be even tackier than this, in my opinion

What
Lincoln would be tossed from the modern repub party
1- questionable sexualty
2- against "state rights"
I assume your taste runs more to the sweaty mccain hugging bush pic.
