Vatican Official Urges Anglican Bishops: Condemn Homosexuality

Walter Cardinal Kasper, president of the pontifical council for promoting christian unity, spoke at the Lambeth Conference in Canterbury, England yesterday and said the need for Catholics and Anglicans to be on the same page against gays is "sorely needed in the world today" and urged the more than 150 bishops gathered to condemn homosexuality:

KasperSaid Kasper: "This teaching is founded in the Old and New Testament and the fidelity to scripture and to Apostolic tradition is absolute. Homosexuality is a disordered behaviour. The activity must be condemned; the traditional approach to homosexuality is comprehensive ... A clear declaration about this theme must come from the Anglican Communion."

According to The Guardian, "Kasper was saddened that dialogue between the Anglican Communion and the Roman Catholic Church had been seriously compromised over the issues of women's ordination and homosexuality. These developments had also caused the Communion to enter into a period of dispute, he observed."

Added Kasper: "Many of you are troubled, deeply so, by the threat of fragmentation. In such a scenario, who will our dialogue partner be? How can we appropriately and honestly engage in conversations with those who share Catholic perspectives on the points currently in dispute, and who disagree with some developments within the Anglican Communion or particular provinces?"

  1. Here is a quote from George Monbiot regarding the Catholic church that is so perfect.
"Concerning the Pope's claim that homosexuality is 'unnatural'. Perhaps the Pope is suggesting that it lies beyond the scope of 'normal' human behavior. If so,this has uncomfortable implications for an association of old men who wear dresses, hear voices, and practice ritual cannibalism. Self-enforced celibacy is all but unknown among other animal species. If any sexual behavior is out of tune with the natural world,it is surely that of the priesthood."

  2. Nothing like the effing Catholics trying to stir up trouble in another religion.

Perhaps they ought to focus on the child-raping priests and not worry so much about what the C of E is doing.

    Fucking pedophiles.

  7. I may be wrong, but I read between the lines here that the RCC is making this comment because they feel like their churches are falling apart.... and I say, "Good."

I for one am fed up with religious institutions trying to speak for God and humanity as a whole, while spreading fear, not love. The more divided they are, the faster they fall. And good riddance.

Let organizations rise who bring people together by focusing on common ground and the innate value of each human being. That's real love.

  13. I think it is the self loathing that I find most sad about catholics, especially the priests. I was brought up as an anglican at a very old and very establishment english public cathedral school (what you guys in the US call a prep school) the deal was an odd mixture of acceptance of "gay" identity and public denial, what worries me now is that the evangelical wing of the c of e (with a bit of help from the folks from Rome and he africans) are aiming to turn back even the progress that English establishment pragmatism had achieved since when I was at school 20 years ago. I see this as a very un-english development and counter to all of our social development over the last 40 years in terms of accepting gay men like me. I do not believe in the faith I was brought up in but it used to have certain habits of tolerance that made me feel at home as i struggled with my own identity. I now feel that that is being taken away from me by a combination of home grown and foreign bigots, if the church of england wants to keep its own special place in English society it had better keep step with the views of most english people which now is at least accepting of gay identity and freedom (even if most of my fellow contrymen do not want pride marches every weekend in their towns). A compromise ? How very english - I hope that Rowen Wiliams can pull it off because he knows that if the bigots take over then the C OF E is finished as the national church of the english because even if they are not ready for full acceptance they will not tolerate a church that starts to preach hate against part of our island nation on the basis of some nonsense about a sky god!

  14. Populace urges Anglican Bishops: Condemn Catholicism

    Posted by: David D. | Jul 31, 2008 7:27:54 PM

  15. The Catholic Church just doesn't get it. By keeping their stubborn, outdated views on homosexuality and ordaining women, they're alienating several millions of their followers. If this were a business, it would be hemorrhaging money.

Like organisms have done for millions of years, you must evolve/adapt to the changing times our else you'll die. Catholicism must evolve, especially in regards to homosexuality and ordaining women, or else it will grow to be so irrelevant to society that it will disappear entirely.

  16. If remaining the same will hasten their demise, then I vote for locking them up just as they are.

Past that, they can take their little black book and the "voice" they hear in their head - and stick it in their ass.

Talk about a bunch of shit stirrers.

  17. as a gay catholic, i know kasper or this council don't really speak what the lords true message about love is

    Posted by: daveynyc | Jul 31, 2008 9:09:18 PM

  18. The Vatican really has a gall. So much moralizing about "disordered" homosexual behavior - meaning anal sex between men - but barely a whisper about anal sex between men and women. Note the double standard: only if it's two men is it bad. Male-female anal sex, on the other hand, is barely condemned.

This relates back to the bisexual double standard I've been talking about for some time now. If a woman experiments with the same sex, she's considered by liberals to be "comfortable with her sexuality". But if a man experiments with the same sex, liberals consider him to be either gay or confused.

I can't stress enough the connections between conservatives and liberals on this issue. Their double standards and hypocrisies expose them. If hypocrisy were a geographical feature, theirs would be The Grand Canyon.

  19. Jason I feel bad for you. Your stereotyping of liberals is kind of sad for you ... your not seeing and experiencing a lot of good people if you put that on all liberals.

I tend to think the majority of the liberals at HRC and those fighting for Marriage Rights in California and Massachusetts and most mature adults of either politcal point of view realize bisexuality exists.

We all have met otherwise liberal silly gay men who "dont believe in bisexuality" but they are just being defensive, childish, and immature ... and do not reflect all or most Liberal adults.

    .

Sure - immature people think that way - and that include lots of silly gay men and conservative straight men.

I would think that crosses political party lines!

The hypocracy you place on "LIBERALS" is a false stereotype YOU have created in your own mind.

  20. ANY religion that tries to have the state ENFORCE it's belief onto those who are not part of the religion is EVIL .... pure EVIL, pure and simple.

The Catholic Church by that standard is one of the greatest EVILS on earth.

It is my understanding the are a major silent funding source for much of the Fundamentalist Christian War to Dominate and control the sexuality of American citizens. They fund the AFA and it's gay bashing website - in secret.

    Pure Evil.

  21. Grammar lesson: "your" is a possessive, as in, 'your shoes are just darling!' and "you're" is a contraction, as in, 'you're going to hell if you keep rimming like that.'"

  24. What? The Catholic church condemns homosexuality? You can't mean it... I'm just gobsmacked.

Girlene with the yellow teeth is just using the tired old "homos are bad, mmm-kay?" argument to deflect attention from the tendency of Catholic priests to put their penises into underage kids. I like putting my penis into people too, but at least they're adults.

  25. How odd. A church that broke off from Rome because Henry VIII refused to listen to the pope about divorce, and asserted itself against foreign intervention, now listens to the pope's branch manager and bows to Africans obsessed with losing face in their own country over religious territory wars with Muslims.

Why the hell don't the English bishops do what they think is right and fuck this overrated idea of being a catholic communion.
