Prop 8 Decision Tomorrow Would Fall on 30th Anniversary of SF White Night Riots

A California Supreme Court Proposition 8 decision tomorrow would fall on the 30th anniversary of the White Night riots, which were set off when the court handed down the most lenient decision possible (voluntary manslaughter) against Dan White for the murders of supervisor Harvey Milk and Mayor George Moscone. The ensuing riots in San Francisco on May 21, 1979 caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage. May 22 also happens to be a significant date. It would have been Milk's 79th birthday.

More on the White Night riots at Uncle Donald's Castro Street (with photos, see above).

Two dozen arrests were made.

  1. I just can't properly express how angry I am about everything today. These people had it right. Sometimes, there's just no progress unless we fucking take it. No more people being sent from duty because they're gay. No more people denied marriage equality because of fucking bigots. No more waiting on DOMA, DADT, ENDA, Hate Crimes... nada. We're DONE WAITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Folks there's a lot of paranoia out there right now. Here's where you go to find out if a decision is coming down --

As you can see there's nothing on the docket.

  5. David, the notice of tomorrow's opinions, if any, will not go up until 10 am PDT today. You may be right that it's not going to be there, but its absence at the moment says nothing.

  6. It's 10AM...Do you know where YOUR Supreme Court Ruling Announcements are? 'Cuz they still ain't posted...

For those of us in NY, should the ruling come down tomorrow, plan to be at Sheridan Square at 6pm for a rally, marching up to Union Square. We have to support our siblings out in CA, and keep putting pressure on the NY Senate to pass our very own Marriage Equality bill. And remember to contact your state senator to urge them to vote in support of the bill! We only have a couple weeks left!
