Hawaii Radio Host: Gov. Lingle Shut Out Pro-Equality Activists

On his radio show, human rights advocate Carroll Cox alleges that Hawaii governor Linda Lingle gave special treatment to supporters of her civil union veto while making it difficult for pro-equality activists to stage a rally and participate in the democratic process.

Lingle "So, we ask you, why is it that the people who came to the Capitol building in support of the gay community and HB444 were required to obtain a Special Use Permit and proof of liability insurance in order to participate in a rally, but the pastors, church members, and those rallying against the civil rights legislation were not similarly required to obtain the necessary permits? And, why is it that certain people were invited to a special prayer meeting inside the Governor’s office, but others were excluded? This is why we find the Governor’s statements regarding her veto to be completely disingenuous. How can Lingle say that the public should be afforded an opportunity 'to participate in the process', when she denied certain people the same opportunities, including attending a prayer meeting at her office prior to her announcement regarding the veto of HB444, and being included on a special invitee’s list?"

  2. Like all right-wing cafeteria "Christians" -- at least, the highly publicized ones -- she's a liar.

Gee, how could we not have figured that?

  3. This information surprises anyone? We all know she's a self-loathing closet case. I have no doubt the courts will overturn her veto. She'll go down in history as the hateful homophobe that she is.

  4. I've already written her a letter expressing my extreme disappointment with her veto of the civil unions bill (most aptly characterized by The Advocate as "a heartless and depraved act"). I am sending the letter by regular postal mail because, as others have noted, her website comment form has been deactivated for several days. I believe that, in today's age of mostly electronic communication, sometimes sending an old-fashioned piece of correspondence can be a way to get more attention than sending the 1 millionth email.

  5. First, she needs the help of a "Gay Buddy" to help her with her hair and clothes.....but with everything else that is going on in her state (poverty and the meth problems) isn't there a better use of her time? I'm sure I'm not the only one who beleives that Hawaii should be boycotted just like South Carolina in the past was. I know that I went on a gay cruise where our ship went to Hawaii....The GLBT community needs to stop funding this state because of this HAG.

  6. Her mind was made up the moment the state legislature passed the measure. She says the people should be allowed to decide the issue. Didn't the legislature, which represents the people, pass the bill? Isn't she the one to let her personal belief and bigotry override the will of the people? Evil bitch. Hopefully hawaiians kick her to the curb when she runs for re-election.

  7. She's a coward and like David In Houston asked, does this surprise anyone? Everyone knew she would veto this...I just didn't think she would be so cowardly about it and then leave the lives of the minority up to the tyranny of the majority. She's a modern day Pontius Pilate washing his hands of Jesus to let the crowd decide his fate.

She is a shameful, gutless woman.

  8. What I'm very concerned about is the more obvious and underlying root of the problem in the US. They were holding a Prayer meeting in government offices? That right there should be a big wake up call no?

So long as you people are worshiping a deity in government offices, no progress will be made.

  9. Well, the answer is obvious: she's an asshole and so are the people who support her.

    agreed 100%!!!

  11. She's a fucking Mormon!

    Enough said!

  12. @NEW JERSEY GIRL She may be a Mormon but I seriously doubt if she fucks.

  13. Lingle is Jewish, aligned with the
    Chabad-Lubavitch movement which teaches that
homosexuality is a sin. She claims she consulted with rabbis before her veto, but
sadly only listened to the cultists.
