Chris Colfer, Friend of Dorothy

Out magazine has begun rolling out its annual Out 100, and their new honorees include Chris Colfer, Lisa Cholodenko, Christine Quinn, the Scissor Sisters, T.R. Knight, and Michael Stipe, with more to be named soon.

Out editor Aaron Hicklin tells me the retro-styled image above is meant to loosely reference the urban myth that Judy Garland's death was somehow a catalyst for the Stonewall riots.

With this image and his recent leather daddy portrait, Colfer seems to be hitting all the stations of the gay cross.

Check out the Out 100 here.

  4. True, it's not a myth. Plenty of patrons who were there report that Judy's funeral had a great deal to do with the tone of that night, and the sentiments that led to the resistance.

As for the above photo, let's just say I'm having flashbacks to fantasies of my 14 year-old self. Oh, to have known a cute boy who loved Judy the way I did!

  6. If this is supposed to be a "retro style" photo, why do they get the era so wrong? He should be dressed for 1969, but the look is very 1959 - the late 50's Elvis hair, the thin belt, the hooked rug. They couldn't do a Google search, look at the Frank McDarrah photos and see what the boys were actually wearing at the time of the Stonewall Riots?

  9. Let me see...the Stonewall riots began on the night of Judy Garland's funeral...but it's an "urban myth" that her death helped spark the Stonewall riots. Okay. Looks like it's not just the right wing that likes to rewrite history.
