Pope: Condoms OK To Use 'In Certain Cases' - For Male Prostitutes

This unexpected news comes today via excerpts form a new book to be published by Pope Benedict.

The BBC reports:

6a00d8341c730253ef011168fdaff7970c-800wiHe said condoms could reduce the risk of infection with HIV, such as for a prostitute, in a series of interviews he gave to a German journalist.

The Vatican newspaper ran excerpts on Saturday.

The comments appear to soften the Roman Catholic Church's hardline stance, which until now had banned the use of any form of contraception.

When asked whether the Catholic Church is "fundamentally against the use of condoms", the Pope is said to have replied, in the book entitled Light of the World: The Pope, the Church and the Signs of the Times:

"It of course does not see it as a real and moral solution.

"In certain cases, where the intention is to reduce the risk of infection, it can nevertheless be a first step on the way to another, more humane sexuality," he said.

In which "certain cases" does he refer to? The Pope uses male protitution as an example of when people should use condoms.

This new belief goes very much against what the Pope said just last year about condoms being used to in the battle against AIDS. At the time he said, "You can't resolve it with the distribution of condoms. On the contrary, it increases the problem."

  1. Yes by all means! Next time the Pope chooses a male prostitute, they would be wise to use a condom.

  2. He's not the first pasty old virgin in the church's history to croak his approval prostitution as a social "good" from his dank cellar...that morbidly obese albino aquinas...making the nazi pope a thomist. An understanding of life on earth immune to science, ethics, and reason.

  3. This is odd and a big suprise. What is going on in the wings? Why this change? This was nowhere near last time The Pope spoke. Will the Vatican and the Pope "come out" later and deny their new opinion?

  4. No surprise at all. I've no doubt he insists the rent boys put on a rubber before fucking him.

  5. I say it is OK to shove hundreds of used condoms down his throat.

  6. What about female prostitutes? It seems that would be a logical extension. And is there some loophole that would introduce the way to MSMs to use them with their wives? Of course, that would require some at home explanations.

  12. The RCC is fundamentally _for_ uncontrolled reproduction, and all the misery and destruction that inevitably results from it.

It never ceases to amaze me how many vicious, authoritarian death cults are built on the few statements of a Jewish hippy socialist rabble rouser who lived 2,000 years ago.

  13. Like people who sell their bodies for a living were all stressed out about the churches' disapporval of their using condom's. Thank God they won't have that hanging over their heads anymore. According to the church, they are still going to hell, but at least now it won't be because they use protection. WTF?

  14. COMO I was thinking the same thing. A lot of media outlets seem to see this as some sign of complete enlightenment. It's the same misogynistic, homophobic bs the church has always pushed. I don't sense any actual concern for anyone's well-being as much as a reaffirmation that those wicked sinners who "started" HIV and are going to Hell anyway (homosexuals) aren't regulated by the faith since we aren't recognized.

  15. Intrinsically disordered - that would be the church of saint peter.
    WTF

  16. Uh, Como? We're talking about Catholics...so, no, why would he think about women? They're 2nd (at best) class citizens to the Pope.

  17. I'm so tired of hearing the pope or church's views on anything, especially when they consider it relevant to modern life.

  18. Well at least the male prostitutes now have permission to use protection. I'm sure they were really sweating that one :)

  19. Vatican gift shop suggestions:

    Holy lube

    Blessed condoms

    ...They'd sell like hotcakes

Nice of the Pope to care about those poor, abused, male hustler druggies.

  20. @ DRAKOW : Yeah, and we're the ones supposed to be "intrinsically disordered".
Where do they think up this shit ?
Seriously ? in the bathroom, the library, over breakfast, in the chapel/Sistine, in the vatican museum, while they are out for a walk ?
Where does this shit come from ? And what about the Swiss Guards, can they use condoms when fucking ? Even for money ?

  21. When I heard this story covered on NBC Nightly News I laughed out loud. The poor woman who was forced to read it looked pained. The main commentator just said nothing at the end of her story but also had a pained expression and went on to the next story.

It's official, the Pope is a world-wide embarrassment.

And, I think I detect a pinhole in someone's infallibility. Maybe they are going to market Vatican condoms? With a Papal stamp of approval?

  22. This makes me wonder how many priest have secretly died of AIDS or have infected the young boys they rape for the Poop-e to have come up with this totally out of left field decision.

It is clear this is yet another way for these homophobes in robes to cover their disgusting asses.

  24. Ok, this is an easy one. Every man is a whore.
Condoms for everybody!!! Growing up Catholic, I never understood it's antiquated/twisted logic on anything. My feelings are in line with TANK's. He's so eloquent! ^_^

  25. Religion as comedy. Here's another one:

Q -- How many priests can dance on the head of a penis?

    A -- All of them.
