Pat Buchanan: Obama 'Capitulated' to 'Militant' Gays on DOMA

Equality Matters' Richard Socarides and Pat Buchanan faced off regarding the DOMA news tonight on Hardball. Buchanan says Obama capitulated to members of the "militant" gay community.

Says Buchanan: "Moral truth exists and it does not change and all things are not equal."

Replies Socarides: "People's views on these things change. Even you're evolving on this Pat, I can tell."

Socarides then touches Buchanan's arm, inspiring Matthews to quip, "You're not going to change his mind by cupping his elbow."

Buchanan laughs, then checks his sleeve.

  1. I couldn't even make it two minutes into this clip. AWFUL. All of the yelling and overtalking is ridiculous.

  2. Yes, Pat, "moral truth" exists and it is fixed and unchanging. That's why black people are still slaves - or is it 3/5 of a person? That's also why women aren't allowed to vote and why they become their husbands' property. Lying is always bad, and that's why if you're Miep Gies and Nazi stormtroopers come to your door and ask if anyone is hiding in your attic you should say, "Why, yes - Anne Frank and her family." You're absolutely right: moral truth never changes and is never relative. Dumbass.

  3. Only bigots like Pat consider marriage equality to be a "militant" gay issue. It's basically kind of conservative family values, Pat, you know the kind Republicans talk about and then ignore. Truly militant gays have other things on their mind.

  4. Better to "capitulate to militant gays" than to continue to kow-tow to hate-filled religious extremist bigots. If demanding equality makes me militant, than break out the camo and dress me up in BDU's.

  7. Buchanan doesn't evolve. He was created a moron and bigot.

  8. It's a moral truth that discrimination is wrong.

  9. LOL @ Ron.

Right, cause armies of people are just panting in the streets over gay marriage---NOT.

  10. And yes, only gay people thought this was a law that needed to be struck down, not a single heterosexual person in the entire country believes in equality for all people.

    Shaking my head.

  11. Militant gays? Would those be the ones who can't serve in the actual military?

  12. I was in the gym tonight and I watched this interview and was sickened by Buchanan's unacceptable and dispicable speech. It's time that these news programs QUIT giving bigotry a microphone! This type of talk is completely unacceptable and it's up to people like Matthews to jump in and say, "You know what--We're done here." Discrimination is NOT acceptable, even if you try to cloak it behind support for "conservative" ideology.

  13. Ron - who do you forsee taking Obama's place ?? love to hear your take on this. His name is Obama by the way. Obama. Clearly you seem to have problem with him but I would ask you to please be civil and explain which of the front runners on the right do you see as a potential world leader ? Let's not be childish here just tell us all who you think would be a good president...and explain why.

  14. Yes, morality doesn't change and it includes non-discrimination.

  15. I always was thought Pat Buhanan was like a cuddly Teddy Bear. Still do.

  16. Or you could correctly say, "our collective understanding of what is morally correct evolves over time."

    Posted by: David R. | Feb 24, 2011 12:48:39 AM

  17. @Da Vinci Smetana

If by "cuddly teddy bear" you mean "anti-Semitic, racist, homophobe who's strangely been given a media platform for decades to spew his various bigotries," then we're in total agreement.

  18. If you fed Pat to the Lions would they spit him back up.

  19. Yes, Pat, moral truth exists and it doesn't change.

It's still wrong to treat minorities as second class citizens, it's still against the US Constitution and inherently Unamerican, and eschewing personal responsibility by claiming that it's God which tells you to devalue and degrade other people is still obscene.

Somethings really don't change Pat, and one of them is that you're a righteous, ignorant, smug, self-satisfied bigot who wouldn't recognize a Christian if ten inches of one was coming up your flabby, flatulent ass.

I'd tell you to go to hell, but given that you've chosen to spend your life there it would be redundant.

  20. And how come, Pat, that this "moral truth" is always on the side of the bigots, like you ?

    Posted by: JackFknTwist | Feb 24, 2011 4:00:02 AM

  21. Patty uses the Holy Roman Catholic Church as his moral authority- and we all know how that turns out when you trust them to be your compass. He has been, is, and will always be a completge ass.

  24. Memo to Pat: You wouldn't know morality if it pissed in your lap. Bigotry is not moral. Homophobia is not moral. Discrimination is not moral. You are confusing the traditional, Biblically defined and generally accepted with "moral." Those things are not rational, they are not sensible, and they are very often you always are, Pat.
