  1. Just how does Charley Sullivan think he's making things better for Gay kids when he encourages the world to think of LGBT folk as "queers"? Loose lips sink ships, and they can stigmatize oppressed minority groups, too. Dude needs to go back in the closet and come out again as a responsible and intelligent person.

  2. the real issue(s) with the Postal service

1- GOV...predominantly republic congresses sticking their hands into the retirement benefit funds of the postal service and spending that $ on wars and tax breaks instead of leaving it alone in the postal service thus bankrupting the postal service

    2- e-mail

3- need to raise rates on junk mail/ advertisement deliveries..... the rates on advertisement deliveries is not the same as regular citizen's mail and it would have an added benefit of cutting down on a lot of it and thus saving some trees and landfill space

4- in Europe most post offices double as credit union/ bank outlets something which should happen here

  3. PS

The postal service could also lower the starting rate of pay....must honor existing contracts but just drop the starting entry level rate of $12.++ to $10 for all front room workers (the backroom handlers and deliverers deserve the starting rat of $12.++ for breaking their backs)

    all problems solved

  4. STUFFED ANIMAL: The term "queer" has been reappropriated for over two decades now, used as a blanket term for topics involving, among other things, LGBT music, social studies, studies, academics, literature, and art. Likewise, a healthy majority of modern LGBT people and their allies have embraced the reappropriated pejorative "queer" as a blanket term when applied in the obvious context, including activists, social rights studies, and academia. It's 2011. What did you think the 'Q' in LGBTQ stood for?

You can either bring yourself up to speed or keep railing about it and look like a fool. Walk into a Queer Theory or Queer Studies course on a college campus and bring that argument up; maybe you'll learn something. If not, well, you've only got yourself to blame for looking like a fool.

And even if you personally reject the reappropriation of "queer", trying to insinuate that people like Sullivan using it is inherently disrespectful is moronic in the face of its clear reappropriation into pro-LGBT jargon for more than two decades now.

  5. I checked out the anti-gay "editorial" in the San Antonio paper online. It's not an editorial at all. Simply an opinion piece by the head of 'Project Rachel," whatever that is.

  6. Looking forward to "Shame" -- Michael Fassbender oozes sex appeal. Hopefully playing a sex addict will lead to a few steamy scenes. ;)

    @SAY WHAT
Re: postal crisis. Having several relatives at various career levels in the USPS, I have a bit of an inside perspective on their pay. First and foremost, only in rural low-income areas are postal employees starting at $12. I was offered $19.26 for carrier several years ago.

The starting rate of pay is not the only problem. Moreover, I doubt people in most parts of the country would even be able to make a living at your proposed $10/hour. The REAL issue is those "existing contracts" you want honored. Many veteran employees of the USPS (even those not in management) are making in excess of $100,000/year. Further, year after year they continue to receive raises and increased benefits regardless of profitability.

Another wage issue killing USPS: there are apparently precious few restrictions on overtime. One of my relatives averages 50 hours per week, 60-70 hrs/week around the xmas holidays. So, for the bargain basement price of $60/hour, he's performing the same function as someone hired more recently making $16/hour. (And he might be good, but he's not doing the job of four people.)

If the USPS wants to remain in business, trimming services (e.g. eliminating Saturday deliveries) and reducing accessibility to customers (e.g. closing over 3,000 branch offices) is the wrong direction. They need to renegotiate contracts and going forward, base salary increases on performance and profit, like almost any successful business does.

They wouldn't need to cut over 100,000 jobs if so many of their current employees weren't making far more than their jobs are worth.

  7. I'm so sick of queers who get all jumpy about being called queer. We own that word now, get over it.
