GOProud's Chris Barron Compares GLAAD to Terrorists

Chris Barron, Chairman of the Board of gay conservative group GOProud, scolds Brett Ratner in a piece today at Tucker Carlson's Daily Caller for cowing to the "gay Gestapo" who brought attention to Ratner's "rehearsal's for fags" remark, and the group he says is "its leading mouthpiece", GLAAD:

BarronI am incredibly disappointed that Ratner gave into the bullying of GLAAD. Ratner should never have penned the ridiculously over-the-top apology letter that he did (or should I say sign the ridiculous letter that was clearly written by GLAAD’s PC communications department).

Instead of agreeing to be sent to GLAAD’s re-education camp, Ratner should have stood up to the gay Gestapo. He apologized for what he said, he admitted it was stupid, and agreeing to become the latest pawn in GLAAD’s never-ending ideological warfare is akin to negotiating with terrorists. Every time Ratner or another Hollywood idiot gives into GLAAD, they are simply encouraging GLAAD to continue its partisan jihad.

Before GLAAD or anyone else on the gay left get to hold others accountable, they should be forced to hold themselves accountable. GLAAD should be forced to live by the standard it expects the rest of the world to live by.

Barron's vitriol appears to be inspired by an ongoing feud with blogger Joe Jervis and at least partly for questioning (as others, including this blog, did), the legitimacy of an alleged attack on A-List Dallas cast member and GOProud member Taylor Garrett.

Seethes Barron:

On two separate occasions, Jervis has openly ridiculed incidents of violent anti-gay hate crimes against gay conservatives. Apparently, words and images don’t matter to GLAAD’s members as long as the subject of those attacks is someone they disagree with politically.

Radio host and activist Michelangelo Signorile has already called out Barron plenty on the hypocrisy of his own bullying claims:

Barron and GOProud now also support House speaker John Boehner defending section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act in federal appeals court after President Obama announced he believed the law is unconstitutional — though Barron himself is legally married to a man in Washington, D.C. Barron’s husband, to whom he refers a lot in his tweets, is a D.C. teacher who wrote a piece in MetroWeekly about how kids learn to be bullies from adults who bully one another. But there couldn’t possibly be a better example of an adult bullying other adults than Barron tweeting this: “The gay left = the American Taliban. Hateful, angry and dumb as sh*t.” He’s also tweeted that Andrew Sullivan is “fat,” “pathetic,” and “self-important” and that Meghan McCain is “intensely stupid.”

  1. It was for such as these that I coined the term "Queer Quisling." A plague on his house! He makes pond scum look like manna from Heaven.

  2. I rejoice in the knowledge that Barron and LaSalvia are so repugnant to their own kind that they couldn't get laid in a gay brothel.

  3. Talk about someone who's intensely stupid. LOL.

  4. Here's a little exercise:
    1. Take Chris Barron's words.
    2. Imagine that they came out of any random homophobe's mouth.

That's wasn't very hard was it?

  5. I am sick and tired of the this whole right vs left... we are all GAY period.

In some respects I think Chris is right but I think he says it in a way that pretty much deters other gays from reading what he has to say.

GLAAD has lost some relevance over the years, especially after the ATT scandal where half the board and president had to resign.

Ratner only had to apologize and make it clear that he was not bashing gay people (I agree with Howard Stern on this) and also that we should be careful about using such words in public or with other people who might be gay which might make them uncomfortable.

What I don't get though is that rappers and hip-hoper thugs can say the slur 213 times in a song and get awards for it, but a WHITE male Hollywood producer says it ONCE and has to resign... I don't get it.

  6. I'll say it again. goproud is an anti-gay group headed by bigoted white christian republicans trying to underhandedly take down any gains we make. They should be disbanded for using public funds to promote their bigotry.

  8. There is absolutely a case to be made against the "Gay Left", its counter-productive extremism, its intolerance of any view that challenges its orthodoxy, its misguided embrace of feminism, its equally misguided embrace of an ideology of absolute non-conformity that borders on an endorsement of social anarchy, just to mention a few of its unsavory traits that are damaging our movement rather than advancing it.

GLAAD, for example, has given its endorsement to portrayals of gay men on TV that reinforce every embarrassing stereotype about us. They absolutely are doing more harm than good at this point.

Problem is, GOProud does not offer an alternative vision or legitimate criticisms. Instead, they just embrace all out enemies, apparently because they just are not smart enough to do anything else with their anger....and they do come off therefore as a bunch of self-loathing kooks that are no more sensible than the Gay Left they seek to de-legitimize.

What a sorry state of affairs, all around.

  9. what a little wimp. Who is Barron to say that anyone ELSE is "giving in" to any other form of "bullying"?

Barron and his fellow moneyed WhiteBoys of GOProud are a bunch of cowards who 'give in' to their bigoted families' whims - families which all resent having gay sons. make no mistake. GOProud members are all dealing with parents, particularly fathers, who are utterly ashamed to call these boys their Sons.

    or this little asswipe....

GOPRoud is a group for insecure resentful white moneyed homosexual males whose families hate liberals and gays. They band together to hate "other gays" in hopes that their parents will be less ashamed of them. PITY them. They will never know the joys and freedoms of an authentic existence.

  10. @Jose S: Are there any "rappers and hip-hoper thugs" producing the Oscars? If not, what would they be forced to resign from then? Being "rappers and hip-hoper thugs?" Being homophobic is almost a required part of the job qualifications for being such a thing. That said, I don't think anyone like that is going to be producing the Oscars in the near future.

  11. It's such a pity that so much physical beauty was wasted on someone with so much self-loathing.

  12. In this increasingly politically correct environment the N-word, the C-word, and on this site, the F-word are frowned upon. But here is the thing, there really are people to whom these inflammatory words apply.

So who, Ricco, you may ask, would you call the N-word, or the C-word, or the F-word? That's easy:

The N-word applies to a Black man, or woman who works against their own people.

And the F-word applies to Barron, and any gay man or woman who works against the civil rights of other gay people, especially they when they make themselves an exception to a discriminatory rule.

  13. The calling card of GOProud is that every time a "gay issue" makes national headlines, they have to chime in an side with the anti-gay forces.

WHY? Simple - it's their way of proving to their families that they're "not like those other gays."

Barron and his fellow WhiteBoys sit at home thinking they're doing such a good job of distancing themselves from those evil stereotypical gay liberals. here's the truth - every time there's another gay suicide reported in the news, the parents of GOProud members sit quietly and think "Damn it. Why wasn't that *our* son?"

  14. It's Barron's own self hatred that causes him such angst. He and his merry little band of idiots would benefit from some SERIOUS sofa time.

  15. Must be lonely up in that tower, eh Barron?

  16. I have to say that I kind of agree with him on some level. I looked at the whole Brett Ratner debate and just rolled my eyes. It's just another case of the media making mountains out of mole hills. What should have happened is to have Ratner make a speech WHILE hosting the Oscars about his commitment to the LGBTQ community and how sorry he is about the whole affair.

    Posted by: Mark | Nov 11, 2011 1:43:22 PM

  17. Chrissie is pure white gay trash.

    Posted by: HadenoughBS | Nov 11, 2011 1:46:02 PM

  18. I do believe it's possible to be TOO sensitive to slight, so touchy it makes any dialogue impossible.

But that isn't the case here. "Rehearsals are for f*gs"? What, "babies" or "wimps" wouldn't have worked? Even "p*ssies," though that might legitimately be called misogyny. And Ratner is the one who bowed out of the Oscars, a bigger drama queen than any of the nominated actresses. And now we're to be denied Eddie Murphy's sparkling wit too? Oh, the humanity!

But along comes Barron, as usual, to defend homophobia. Quelle surprise. But what do you expect from someone who's BFFs with Ann Coulter, who IS married but fights against it for everyone else, who claims to have been the victim of a hate-crime even though he claims not to believe in them? He's a loathsome individual who can counted on to be on the wrong side of every issue.

  19. GoProud, is of course, a hate organization with little to no credibility.

    Posted by: OS2Guy | Nov 11, 2011 1:48:13 PM

  20. GLAAD is really bad, HRC is also bad, It will never be a good idea to create an envoy of "your people" to pass judgement on perceived slights. These ORGs are pure crap when compared to the small, local LGBT hospice centers and clinics. They basically do everything the others do with some notable differences:

-They work, They also work hard.

-They dont police the worlds morons on behalf of all gay people.

GOProud is just a fake hate ORG designed to take away gay rights. We should get rid of both!

Also, as an aside, it's perfectly fine to be a bigot. Seriously, who the hell are you and why the hell do you need to "fix" a bigot? Just leave them be to their sad friendless life. You have no right to change them, that change has to come from within! So if Brett Ratner wants to be a bigoted idiot, let him, then we know not to associate with him, AND ORGs like the Ocsars can drop him for being awful.

  21. This is so over the top and silly (and passe, for Barron) that I really do not care about it much any more.

Anything being said by Chris Barron is only slightly more inflammatory than what would be muttered or averred (if not outright said) in more diplomatic style by conservative talk show hosts (can't you imagine a pensive Sean Hannity asking a panel of sycophants: "Really, given their antagonism to our way of life, can't homosexuals be seen as anti-Americans in the same way as the terrorists?") that I don't think it really impairs our movement. Furthermore, I really doubt that anyone pays anything close to as much attention as we do to his polemics - I bet Mitt Romney and Herman Cain don't even know his name. I mean, the guy is on at 3am, right? He's far less relevant than Ann Coulter, and even she has seen her star fade as her particular brand of crazy has been more formally integrated into the GOP platform and psyche.

Don't get me wrong - if I saw the guy on the street I would be hard pressed to suppress my desire to tell him off, but can't we just ignore him and focus on coalition building with the reasonable conservatives? It is worth noting that even as the GOP has lurched far to the right over the past decade, there has been a coincidental surge in support for gay rights in all parties (if I'm not mistaken, somewhat dramatically for the GOP), especially in the more purple and blue states (many of which lack protections or legal recognitions).

The Republican Party's trajectory seriously worries me, but Barron et al. are nobodies and complete lost causes. Let's spend our energy and anger galvanizing the majority of conservatives in NH who oppose repealing marriage equality, and getting more businesses to use their clout with conservatives to argue that discrimination weakens American business, shall we?

  22. I don't think there is self loathing here... just a lot of misplaced anger. I too have A LOT of criticism of the gay establishment and its embrace of leftist ideology... I think that we gays should re-focus ourselves and secure what is important for our community.
@RYAN... you are right, no homophobic 'f' dropping Rappers have produced the Oscars, but they still produce other shows, events, and still make MONEY out of saying such things. Mr. Ratner is out of JOB for doing something much much much less offensive. In my opinion he should not be forced to resign, just clear up by saying that he is sorry, wasn't meant towards gays, stop bullying etc etc... I know that is what Tracy Morgan did and HE KEPT HIS JOB.
Another point is that Chris is not the only one saying these things, meaning that dissatisfaction with the current gay ruling class is growing even among gay 'liberals'... So Chris is in essence the creation of the gay establishment's own arrogance and detest for anything 'different' or unorthodox... and he is being picked on because obviously he is slapping us in the face too hard, and it hurts.

I think such slap is not needed, we need to moderate our way of doing things because now our side is becoming the majority (politically) and we cannot afford to be viewed as an oppressive, ignorant ruling majority (much like those who don't like us).

  23. GoProud will never listen to anything close to logic, here's hoping the Log Cabiners step up, call Barron out, and start disassociating with GoProud altogether. I don't agree with the Log Cabin on most things, but at least they are not deliberately trying to destroy the gay rights movement.

BTW, Mr. Barron's marriage would be gone in seconds if his "friends" ever get into power. Maybe he'll like that too -- "I never liked my radical homosexual marriage anyway!"

    Posted by: Jollysocks | Nov 11, 2011 1:55:45 PM

  24. @Fenrox: I agree with you about not trying to change Ratner. However, I part ways with you if you think there should not be a response to bigotry. The way that we stop creating future bigots is by standing up to the current ones and explaining what is wrong with their belief systems. As far as changing, you're right, Ratner is on his own. He can die a bigot if that's what he wants to do.

    Posted by: RyanInSacto | Nov 11, 2011 1:58:50 PM

  25. Thank you, Jose, for showing that you're angry against black people more than you are against Homophobic people. Of course you have problems with "the left" - you're still a right-wing suckup.

    grow. some. orbs.
