Pope Benedict: Gay Marriage 'Threatens the Future of Humanity'

Pope Benedict addressed the diplomatic corps assigned to the Vatican and said that same-sex marriage threatens the future of humanity, Reuters reports:

PopeHe told diplomats from nearly 180 countries that the education of children needed proper "settings" and that "pride of place goes to the family, based on the marriage of a man and a woman."

"This is not a simple social convention, but rather the fundamental cell of every society. Consequently, policies which undermine the family threaten human dignity and the future of humanity itself," he said.

He added:

"The family unit is fundamental for the educational process and for the development both of individuals and states; hence there is a need for policies which promote the family and aid social cohesion and dialogue."

The Pope last week elevated 22 bishops to cardinals, among them New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan, an outspoken opponent of New York's marriage equality law.

  4. I spent 4 years in a catholic high school in brooklyn, ny (Bishop Loughlin MHS)...much of that time with Brother Bernadine's hand in my pants. He just sat there and slid it in...right in the classroom. Just kept it there like it was a "hand warmer". Little did he know that if had just gone down another inch or so...he would have found a throbing hard-on.
Oh, I should listen to and respect the catholic church because????

  5. What is so terribly, tragically sad about the collapse of the nuclear family--which REALLY IS threatening the survival of Western civilization--is that neither the Right nor the Left seem to want to acknowledge the REAL cause of it--namely, feminism.

Feminism taught a generation of women to focus on themselves rather than on their families and to always put themselves and their selfish desires first....which is exactly what most of them have done.....and men have stood passively by and let them do so, the results being a) that children have been abandoned and are increasingly devoid of any parental guidance, with disastrous results for their well-being.......and b) that the birth rate in the West has plummeted, which will literally result in the extinction of the white race within another couple of generations if nothing is done about it.

But despite this, the sideshow on same-sex marriage continues, a form of scapegoating that seems to have no parallel in history.

    Puzzling and sad.

  7. the pope can go eat a d*ck.

oh and he should travel back to 1973 to learn that homosexuality is no longer recognized as a mental illness nor is it maladaptive in any way.

  10. A little girl's father died of Aids about ten years ago. He was a drug user, a famed New York perfomance artist in NYC in the 80's. Her mother worked in a bar and did burlesque. I babysat a lot while she worked at night. Most of the bohemian section of our town "raised" this little girl. All the while idiots like this pope railed against gay families. ( The girl's mother was bisexual and the father, well, I'm not quite sure what he was. All I know is that he asked me to take care of her on his deathbed). I am gay and this girl knew the orientations of everyone involved in her upbringing. Well, SHE JUST GRADUATED WITH A MASTERS DEGREE FROM SARAH LAWRENCE AND IS ENGAGED TO BE MARRIED. To a wonderful MAN, if you must know (See, we CAN'T recruit, even in a "perfect storm" like this girl's alternative world.

So shove it up your ass, "pope'. YOU LIE.

  11. The Pope thinks that homosexual relationships are superior to heerosexual ones. Otherwise he wouldn't be saying what he's saying.

I'll let the rest of you illuminate Rick. Yikes.

  19. What planet am I on..? Everyday on the internet there is another freakazoid (trying) to exalt him or herself by degrading and kicking gays in the face. Oh and btw...I am quite sick of complete hypocrites telling me that they "love" me while also supporting NOM and saying they think I'm going to hell. How do you love someone and deliberately hurt them..? I've been to the cannot see the end of the hallways ..all lined with gold, priceless artwork and tapestries. I ask...where is the sin in all of this....and was Jesus teaching discrimination and bigotry and hatred...??

  24. Same-Sex marriage threatens the control the Catholic Church holds over their minions of parishoners - which is why they HAVE to stop it any way they can.

    Desolve the Catholic Church.

  25. Rick, you're saying that women's rights destroyed the family? That's ridiculous. I guess you think it's "selfish" that women felt they had the right to vote; it was "selfish" to not want to be raped, assaulted and abused by their husbands, friends, neighbours or bosses. It was "selfish" to want to have lives and careers of their own and expect that men contribute to the raising of their children. That they wanted to have control over their own bodies when it came to sexual and reproductive rights. That they wanted to have equal access to education and career opportunites. That they could actually be "happy" in their marriage instead of miserable and trapped, basically treated as property. I think women actually deserve to have the same rights and opportunites that men do... just like you think that gays deserve to have the same rights and opportunites to marriage. To want to be treated equally is not "selfish", and it's sad that you can't see the parallel. I hope you are gay because I would pity a woman who was dating/married to you... you're a real prince.
