FOX News Columnist Keith Ablow Finds a New LGBT Target: Hilary Rosen

FOX News Columnist Dr. Keith Ablow, the guy who warned that kids would want to change their gender after seeing Chaz Bono on Dancing with the Stars, has found a new LGBT target: Hilary Rosen.

Hilary Rosen vilifying women who choose to be stay-at-home wives and mothers is particularly ironic, given that she has chosen an alternative lifestyle raising twins with a female partner, meaning no father-figure is present in her home. To enjoy the benefits of her alternative lifestyle while denigrating the lifestyle of Ann Romney shows that her seemingly infinite bandwidth for alternative lifestyles flows in one direction: only alternative.

RosenRosen is a "hater who can't handle [a] feminine role" according to Ablow:

These “anti-gender” women have it in for anyone who embraces her femininity, maternal instincts and capacity to nurture as their highest priority — postponing or passing up other laudable opportunities to work at, say, a law firm or as a marketing executive.  They despise the notion that some women may indeed be drawn — instinctively and happily — toward creating special and loving environments in which to raise their children, while spending all their available time sustaining and enriching those environments and those children.
They despise the parts of themselves that may be drawn to such roles, as well.  That’s why women like Hilary Rosen make such outlandish statements, to begin with.  They’re essentially talking to themselves — albeit, with the rest of the world forced to listen — trying to reassure themselves that their own choices in life weren’t only equally as good as those of other women, but better.

Nasty comments toward Ann Romney cast light on haters who can't handle feminine role [fox news]

  1. says

uh… he actually, in his own way, not only slandered Mrs. ROMNEY, but all women.

sad thing is, i don’t think he or his fans will even be aware of it.

  2. Andy Panda says

Why do we keep repeating these haters commments on this website? I am starting to feel like I get more right wingnut info on this blog than I want.

  3. TJ says

Wow. Just wow. Not only a mischaracterization of Rosen’s point – class, not an attack on mothers – but an anti-gay screed about lesbians hating mothers and being jealous because of their inability to embrace the role of mother. This quack is the poster definition of tool. And if you really want to become nauseous, read the comments.

  4. Rooney says

Conservatives are evil especially when they make working moms and women who have life’s outside of the home feel bad for it.

  5. Jeff says

interesting… leave it to a man to explain why any woman voicing her opinion is wrong.

not only attacking ‘alternative lifestyles’ (as he puts it) but denigrating all women in the process… while trying to defend mitten’s wife.

the irony has my head spinning.

  6. says

…is he saying that low-income families where the mother is, truly, FORCED to work is hating “femininity”? that a woman who can’t be a stay at home mother because her husband isn’t worth 200 million dollars is guilty of some alternative lifestyle?

    republicans are freaking idiots.

  7. AG says

I can barely notice any anti-gay sentiment in his words. He simply states the obvious that feminists despise housewives. According to feminists a modern woman is not complete unless she pursues a career. Rosen has made a career and has children, stay-at-home moms didn’t have a career, thus they are different from her. It’s very common to have a low opinion of the people who are different from you. Liberals, gays, lesbians, just like everybody else, dislike anyone who is not like them.

  8. TJ says

AJ – Barely noticing (as in, what critical thinking might look like) would seem to me to be what you do best.

  9. TJ says

Sorry, I apparently failed to note that this was AG, not AJ. Wouldn’t want my snark to be misdirected.

  10. Ken says

Ann Romney was so upset by the comment that she hasn’t worked a day in her life that not one of her maids, nannies, cooks, or drivers could coax her out of bed this morning.

  11. says

anyone who can’t see the blatant anti-gay sentiment in Ablow’s statements reveals the level of self-delusion they must maintain in order to get through life every day.

liberals don’t dislike “those who are different from them” – they have a frustration and justified anger at those who refuse to empathize with the plights of others.

conservatives, on the other hand, think only of themselves. that’s why they’ll say “ablow wasn’t being anti-gay” – acknowledging the truth would lead them to accept the reality that everyone they choose to associate with thinks their a worthless embarrassment.

  12. Esther Blodgett says

The operative word in every discussion on this topic that I have seen and/or read is “choice”.

Ann Romney was fortunate to have married into a family that was able to give her a “choice” whether to work in the home or outside the home or both.

She also had the “choice” to have 5 children.

I am very much pro-choice, and I hope Mrs. Romney and her family appreciate the choices they have been allowed to make.

So many women do not have this “choice”.

  13. says

today when i go out and about i’m going to shame all the women i see who are working in some form, who are not doing their proper feminine duties to stay at home with their children.

because all women are married to millionaires.

  14. AG says

I’ve noticed so much empathizing with the plight of others when angry “liberals” were all for broadcasting the identities of unfortunate men arrested on Manhattan Beach the other day. No, those were bad gays, they were not up to the modern standards of our angry “liberals.” They chose not to behave like us, so no empathy for them.

  15. says

Does anyone think Ann Romney has even been a typical stay-at-home mom? Did she ever do laundry or worry about the bills? AR’s phony indignation, and that of her cohorts, is an insult to real stay-at-home mothers – including mine.

  16. says

i don’t think a single person on this site supported the publishing of their names and photos. i certainly didn’t. i don’t recall reading any commenters who agreed with it.

you can go back and re-read it, but you won’t see my liberal ass condoning the publications.

alas, you won’t do that. conservatives like to make things up to disagree with, because the truth is that reality will make your world crumble.

sorry for keeping your real. i know that’s gotta hurt.

  17. says

there’s a reason gay conservatives do nothing but talk smack about Liberals – they can’t point to a single thing their own Conservative families and communities are doing to promote and champion LGBT Equality.

    pity ’em.

  18. johnny says

AG, you are really mixing issues here.

    Nice try.

Those “unfortunate” men (both gay and bi and closeted gay) made the choice to go into a public restroom and have anonymous sex with other men. Personally, I don’t care whether or not their identities were broadcast, but when men make stupid decisions (like having anonymous sex in public restrooms) they deserve whatever befalls them, regardless of how “hot” it seemed at the time.

This is quite different from women who choose to work, have children and are both working wives and loving mothers, both gay and straight and those of us who can understand their choices for what they are: normal.

To try to equate the two in some kind of snarky fashion to help bolster your view of what it means to be a liberal or have selective empathy as one is ludicrous at best.

    Sorry. Fail.

  19. says

The Hilary Rosen brouhaha has officially jumped the shark thanks to–surprise!–FOX’s resident crazy “Dr.”

Back to the original, quite non-outlandish point: Mitt Romney is bad for women. Ann Romney, Mitt’s resident expert on women, has little in common with most women, who don’t share her world of choice and privilege. But, ultimately, Ann is beside the point, except to her family.

All anyone has to do to be convinced that Mitt is bad for women is look at his positions on the issues. But that would be too easy. Better to demonize lesbian mothers by accusing them of demonizing “normal” mothers like Mrs. Romney. It’s a crazy world, kids, and it’s only going to get crazier in the next few months with pundits on the loose.

  20. Jeanie says

It’s so funny that conservatives insist that non-working women have it so much tougher than those of us who can both parent and hold a job. I always wonder: what exactly are you doing during the 7 hours a day that your kids are in school? According to this article, you’re “creating special and loving environments in which to raise their children”. What does that even mean?

  21. says

@Jeanie, it means you make sure your 5 (or more) Mormon kids know that you won’t love them, and they won’t get their own planet one day, if they ever admit to being gay.

    or something.

  22. Jeanie says

Also, could someone explain what it means to spend “all their available time sustaining and enriching those [home] environments and those children”. The stay-at-home moms I know spend their time at Starbucks, shopping, playing tennis, hanging out at the school, lunching with friends, etc. Where’s the enrichment for the family in all of this? And what exactly, then, in terms of enriching her family, did Ann Romney do? I’d like some examples.

  23. Jeanie says

LittleKiwi: If my 5 little Mormon children are gay, I can always send them to Marcus Bachmann’s clinic. They will pray away the gay, I hear.

  24. BobN says

Good lord. Ann Romney teed it up and… WHAM! Rosen gave it a good, stupid, utterly unnecessary WHACK. Could it have been any more transparent and obvious that it was a set-up?

    Some “political strategist” Rosen is.

God, it’s going to be a long summer…

  25. Spraypaintedgold says

Ablow is an idiot, like most psychiatrists whose test scores were too low for any other branch of medicine.

  26. ratbastard says

This Ablow character is just a paid talking head. He’s paid to create controversy, or add to controversy.

Besides, this is a totally BS manufactured distraction.
    Little Canadian,

You post [and probably talk] WAY too much. In fact, you sometimes monopolize these forums.

  27. says

ratbastard, can you provide me to a link to a news story about your father being attacked and left in a wheelchair by “those blacks”?
cuz i think it’s funny, actually. you know, you come on, you ignore the topics, you spout some nonsense, and then you invent a fake-life where you have jock brothers who support you as a gay man (HA!) and a conservative christian family that never gave you any grief about being gay (HAHA!) and a dad who was…left in a wheelchair after he was shot by “some blacks” (hahaha!), only to then die when you were in highschool, by which time you were already fully Out (HAHAHAHAHAAH!)

i’d just love to read about the shooting. URL, please?

  28. ratbastard says

    Little Canadian,

I will do no such thing. This is the internet and full of crazy people and aholes. Anyway, I wouldn’t be able to provide a ‘link’, it happened long before [a decade] the internet became a reality. Such crimes Little Canadian are not unusual in big U.S. cities, and they were FREQUENTLY not reported on by the media prior to the internet and even often today. People are assaulted and badly hurt all the time, you’ll only hear about a small number of them.

And why would think it so improbable and outrageous? I grew up i n an inner city neighborhood; these types of things were pretty common, Little Canadian. Maybe it was a very different childhood and life than yours, but there ya go.

  29. says

did your mother give up her feminine duties and take a job to support your family when she became the sole provider?

if so, Romney and Ablow think she mad a decidedly un-womanly choice. She should have chosen to marry a millionaire :-)

aw, c’mon sugar. you only posted to get my attention. you got it. shame you can’t back it up. 😉

if your “father” was left in a wheelchair after being shot by “blacks” i’m sure there’s a report. even in the pre-digital age, these things get recorded. and then put online, years later.
but it didn’t happen. just like Jimmy LaSalvia wasn’t attacked by black youths” either. S**t Prejudiced Gay Conservatives Say 😀

  30. ratbastard says

I am not conservative, Little Canadian. Get new material or talking points from your masters.

  31. says

how about you give the name(s) of the shooter(s)?

Surely you don’t seek to protect “their” identities 😀

come on, sugar. let’s see how elaborate your fake-identity is 😉
