John Boehner Claims 'Ample Laws' Protect Gay Workers

JBoehnerIf you hope John Boehner is going to help President Obama pass a comprehensive Employment Non-Discrimination Act, don't hold your breath.

The Republican House Speaker was asked about the matter yesterday and told Washington Blade reporter Chris Johnson yesterday that he's not even thinking about it:

Although the administration insists it will work with Congress to pass legislation in lieu of an executive order barring federal contractors from discriminating against LGBT workers, Boehner seemed unaware of ENDA in response to a question from the Washington Blade, saying, “I haven’t seen the bill. I haven’t thought much about it.”

Asked whether passage of ENDA might alleviate the 8.2 percent unemployment rate if employers were barred from firing LGBT workers, Boehner said “ample laws” are in place and deferred further comment to the House Committee on Education & the Workforce. The committee didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

“No one should face discrimination in the workforce,” Boehner said. “There are ample laws already in place to deal with this. Having been the chairman of the Education & Workforce Committee, I’m quite familiar with employment law. But if there are further changes that are necessary, I’m sure the committee will look at it.”

Tico Almeida, president of the group Freedom to Work, thinks Boehner simply doesn't want to go against an American public that increasingly supports LGBT protections.

"Boehner ducked this question from the Washington Blade because he does not want to have to publicly side with the small and decreasing number of Americans who tell pollsters that simply being gay should be grounds for firing a talented and hard working employee," said Almeida.

Actually Boner, no there aren't...which is why we are having to fight this battle against morons like YOU.

And BONER; your casual indifference to 30 million gays and lesbians in ths country is just disgusting. Thank you for showing your true character, you low-rent idiot.

  4. Unsurprisingly, he's was as incompetent then as he is now... freaking Mr. 9% Approval. My kind-hearted Midwestern mom told me yesterday that out of all politicians in the US, she would love to punch The Boner in the face. I laughed at how sad a commentary that was on his pathetic 'career'.

HA! I expected no such thing. When a wolf acts like a wolf, do you get mad at it? No, that's silly. OF COURSE Bonehead won't do anything to further it, but don't tell that to Obama. Now, when a sheep acts like a wolf, THEN you've got problems. Like how Obama "claims" he's such a "fierce advocate of equality", yet here he is, acting no different from Boehner.

The ONLY way I'd vote this election is if Romney chose someone really awful as his VP, like Santorum. Beyond that, I'll just stay home in my nice, warm bed. And if Obama is reelected, don't expect me to hold back on taunting you all who said to wait when he refused to sign the executive order, saying he'll do all these things when you and I both know, come this time next year, or midterm elections of 2014, or even the end of 2016, that he won't have done a thing.

And if he isn't, maybe the Democrats will finally learn something. Yeah, and maybe pigs will fly.

  7. people who abstain from voting and think it makes them unique rebels are as useless as tits on a fish.

there's a marked difference between President Obama and the GOP clowns - do a google search, you'll find not bigoted anti-gay comments from Obama.

this is a distinction gay white conservatives need to remain willfully ignorant of in order to preserve their (in)sanity.
