MSNBC's Thomas Roberts Questions Anti-Gay NC Pastor on 'Amendment One': VIDEO

Nc_roberts

Thomas Roberts today talked with Jeremy Kennedy, the campaign manager for the Coalition to Protect All NC Families, and Baptist Pastor Mark Harris about the election today in which voters take on Amendment One.

Roberts questions Harris about anti-gay groups cherry-picking religious arguments from the Bible in the evangelical quest to oppress gay people, and Kennedy says he's still holding out hope for an upset victory against the measure.

  1. Actually the headline in the screen-cap is quite misleading. A huge portion of the faith-based community has declared their opposition to Amendment 1 -- so it is clearly not drawing a faith-based divide but rather an ignorance-based divide even among the religeous.

  2. Once again, the pastor fails to answer the "cherry picking" question. Nobody ever can give a clear response to such hypocrisy.

  3. Looking up the Matthew 19 reference that the pastor quoted, it's actually Jesus reinforcing that a man can not divorce a woman and (depending upon the translation)that some don't marry because they were born that way. Weak scripture to quote for his "argument".

  4. It amazes me bigots use Matthew 19 against gay people when Jesus refers to gay men as "born eunuchs" in that chapter and does not condemn them. He even states we were born from our mother's womb that way. WTF? It's just like Romans where bigots trim the verse because the entire verse actually debunks their bullshite.

Btw, why isn't any reporter calling these bigots out? Just like Maggie yesterday, they don't answer the f'n question.

  6. I don't understand why Roberts let Harris go down the religious road with this at all. Marriage isn't "defined by god" in this country, it's a civil contract, and why Thomas, of all people, didn't force it to be dealt with this way in the interview is beyond me. Why does the media keep giving the religitrons the opportunity to blather on and on about the biblical aspect of this whole issue??

  7. I watched it when it was happening and i was shock and happy he brought up all the other nonsense in the bible that xtianistas ignore

He also sounded a bit nervous going that approach. I wish more news people would go that approach instead of giving the xtianistas a free ride

  8. ...and again all the reporters give them a "fast pass" to avoid answering a specific question.
