  1. What a beautiful couple, what a bigoted Deacon.

  2. Twenty-some years ago when I was living in Omaha, Creighton University was celebrating a monthly "Dignity" mass for gay people in the basement of St. John's church on their campus while the then-current archbishop looked the other way. Eventually Rome became aware of this "sacrilege" and put an immediate end to these masses. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

  3. The sin of bigotry and the bible :

Hatred is the greatest sin which goes against the greatest commandments of Christ. In the Parable of the Good Samaritan, Christ has clearly mentioned that the way to have eternal life for his followers is through his commandments to love God and to love your neighbor as yourself. He has mentioned that those laws are above all other biblical laws of any other prophets.

Homophobes promoting hatred are antiChrist who do not believe or pretend to believe in Jesus Christ but do not acknowledge Christ's commandments to love God and to love thy neighbor as thyself, to be the highest of all biblical laws. The antiChrist, like the devil, is a master of quoting biblical verses except those 2 top commandments of love from Christ, they avoid using Christ's name but use other names, even 'God', to bring all sort of biblical verses or 'facts', to lie and to prove their justification to hate. AntiChrist deceive people that those 2 commandments of love were not above all laws for Christians, and they are around in many organizations pretending to be of 'religious' faith.

The issue of homosexuality, same sex marriage and many other issues (sexual/non sexual) are different forms of a test of the Christian faith on that choice of who they really believe in the end, to love (Christ and His greatest commandments) or to hate (succumb to temptation of verses NOT from Christ's greatest commandments to justify their hatred).

"For this announcement to be in a Catholic schools' newsletter would be an endorsement of a belief of a teaching that is not upheld by the Catholic Church," - indeed the teaching implied is that it's 'ok' to go against Christ's Greatest Commandments to hate and discriminate thy neighbor because of whatever reason!!

  6. They were set up to take the fall, they should have known that the Catholic Church would not allow the announcement. Proof of the Catholic Church's psychological war on LGBT people. For thousands of years the Catholic Church has been destroying anybody or group, real or imagined that they think is against them. This mental illness has come down time with them until today where the Catholic church still persecutes anybody they think is a threat to them, real or imagined.

  7. who was / where is the person from the Marion community that 'reached out' to the couple...
wouldn't there be some internal / editorial conversation before an invitation to publish their announcement was made? especially if this was the first time they were to publish a same-sex wedding milestone.

  8. Anyone who graduated from a Catholic H S and didn't learn that the ROMAN Catholic Church is one of the most homophobic institutions in the world should give her/his diploma back. The Catholic Church is an institution that is led by many closeted homosexual Bishops and ministered to by a majority of closeted homosexual priests. It is one sick institution.

  9. THIS POPE IS ON A RAMPAGE
Any Gay catholics or those with Gay relatives are COMPLETE FOOLS to put any money into the plate, until this pope gives up or dies.

  10. @Peter - maybe she's camera shy. I was always very quiet, and my husband never stopped talking. One of the local TV stations came up to us at Pride for an interview, and suddenly, my husband was mute. I was the one that talked to the interviewer.

  11. @Bob: the problem is not just"this pope" . The entire institution is corrupt from the bottom up.

  12. I'm sure the school newsletter has NEVER printed a wedding announcement for a previously divorced alum either, right? And I am sure it has NEVER printed a wedding announcement for someone "married" in a Mormon ceremony or by a judge, right? Because all those relationships (adultery and fornication, respectively) are just as sinful as being gay.

  13. Oh. Those. Catholics.

  14. @andrew: your statement is probably a little too sweeping, as there really are good (although possibly deluded) people in the church, as witness the American nuns that the Vatican attacked for doing charitable work.

However, this act just seems to be petty and mean spirited.

  15. it's a Catholic publication. Why is anyone surprised by this and why did they even bother trying to print it?! Seems like a bit of goading to me.

I've had Catholic friends that have been divorced, lapsed, etc. and to have a chance at getting married in the church, they had to go through a lot of ministry to prepare them to be able to be part of the church again. One such person had to find her horrible ex husband and get him to sign an annulment so she could marry her current husband. No easy or pleasant tax. They may be caught in their ways, but they are consistent and difficult!

  16. The Catholic Church does not believe in same sex marriage. No one is forcing these folks to belong to it or seek its approval. We all know that Church is anti-gay. Expecting the Church to miraculously discard it's beliefs isn't going to happen.
