Gay Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron Helming The Oscars

ZadanMeronA big congratulations are in order for Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. It was just announced this morning that the openly gay producers of Hairspray and Chicago have been enlisted to put on the 85th Academy Awards.

"We are very excited to collaborate with…everyone at the Academy to produce this year's Oscars," said the duo behind Storyline Productions. "We hope to utilize our experience in producing features, TV, and theater to bring something fresh and special to this incredible awards show. When we filmed The Bucket List, we made our own personal bucket list, and producing the Oscars was #1. It's truly a great honor."

GLAAD, which honored the men with the Vito Russo Award at the organization's 23rd Media Awards, celebrated the news, of course.

"For decades, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron have been fearless in bringing powerful and entertaining stories to screens, and will undoubtedly bring that same level of passion and skill for storytelling to the Oscars," said GLAAD President Herndon Graddick in a press release.

  3. Ugh. Go gay up the Tonys. Nothing worse than an extravaganza musicale when I just want to hear lame jokes and see Hollywood nutjobs stroke each other over golden phalli. Here is the proper Oscar format. Short monologue describing the year in movies. Award. Award. Nominated Song. Award. Rinse lather repeat. Throw in a comprehensive In Memoriam. Some lifetime achievement blah blah blah. Two hours tops. We go to bed.

  4. Neil is great at hosting, but if he is booked for the Oscars he will be officially overexposed. Bring on someone new.

  5. @Brian in Texas So it's okay for Billy Crystal to host the Oscars 3485648754 times and not be considered overexposed but Neil, who hosted less than 10 times is overexposed? What kind of double standard is this?

  6. When young, he is like an end of the world. In fact is not. Everything was just the beginning.

  7. Fasten your seat belts my brother's & sister's; Craig & Neil are talented men who know how to produce their professional passions for audience appreciation. The upcoming 85th Academy Awards will be risen from the grave...
