Some Cheer, Some Storm Out After Pueblo, Colorado City Council Approves Benefits for Gay Couples: VIDEO

Pueblo

Pueblo, Colorado's City Council voted 6-1 on Tuesday to approve benefits for same-sex couples, KKTV reports:

Some people cheered and others stormed out after it passed the city council by a 6 to 1 vote Tuesday evening.

At a public hearing before the vote, supporters made passionate pleas both in favor and opposition of the ordinance.

Many wore stickers that said “Pueblo = Equality” asking the council to put aside personal beliefs and focus on equal worker rights. About a dozen spoke in favor of it, saying it should be based on how hard that person works, not the gender make-up of their family.

Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

  1. Well at least the fat ass homophobes got a bit of exercise by storming out.

  2. It's so bizarre that a person being able to add another person to their health insurance makes other people "storm out".

  3. Ha ha. Pueblo, CO. The ought to be happy they have enough people to call it a city - gay or otherwise. The best thing that's happened to that dump in awhile!

  4. This is a win for LGBT people everywhere and we need to keep winning our equal and civil rights every where which by the way drives the evil anti-gay Christians even more insane than they are already. Now get ready for some of these nuts to reply to this response Or start a fire storm of evil spew.

  6. In fairness, I'm sure at least a few of those who stormed out had an urgent need to go home and "pray on" how awful homosexual sex is, in detail...

  8. They stormed out because these religious assholes aren't used to people fighting against them. They don't know how to accept the word "no". When the vote came 6-1, they probably left in embarrassment because they realized just how bigoted they are.

  9. Regarding the atheism issue, I expect Pueblo won't be talking about this at a future meeting, because they'll be served.

  10. I'm somewhat reminded of the famous remarks on bullying made by Dan Savage at that journalism conference. Aiden Raccoon above paraphrased Savage quite well, "They stormed out because these religious assholes aren't used to people fighting against them". In Savage's case it was his knowledge of the Bible. As to Raccoon's hope, however, "they realized just how bigoted they are", it sounds like he doesn't have a clue about the Religious Right's mindset.
