Insane Video of Last Night's Marriage Equality Hearing in Rhode Island: WATCH

Ri1

Here's an awesome kid testifying for marriage equality in Rhode Island.

While the religious wingnuts outside in the Capitol...

Ri3

...are frothing, speaking in tongues, and practically having seizures because the kid's parents simply want to be married.

Check out the video, AFTER THE JUMP...

The AP reports:

About 300 supporters and opponents signed up to address the legislative committee reviewing the bill — they were limited to 2 minutes each to keep the hearing from going all night — while hundreds more gathered in the hallways outside the hearing.

Downstairs, a raucous rally of gay-marriage opponents beneath the Statehouse rotunda at times drowned out those testifying in the third-floor committee room.

The Providence Journal reports: "The committee voted at the start of the meeting to hold the bill for further study. A vote to send it to the House floor could happen next week at the earliest, said House spokesman Larry Berman."

  1. it's the parallel to the gun debate:

the pro-gun folks, like the anti-equality folks, make it clear that they're not operating in the same universe.

the anti-gays are insane. the anti-regulation gun nuts are insane.

meanwhile, every on the right side of history is calmly using facts and logic.

    wow.

  2. and again, wingnuts, how does that lesbian couple stop you from having 8 children in a "traditional marriage"?

  3. They should be locked up in a padded room and medicated.

Also note the spelling mistakes on most signs. "inmoral", "difine", "unnecesary". Tells you all you need to know

  4. I know that feel. This is MN 2 years ago at the start of the horrid election we just went through. I feel bad for them if this goes to a popular vote.

And LOL at the people crying and rolling on the floor and babbling nonsense. You need help. I know plenty of Christians and have never seen one of them roll on the floor and babble and cry.

  5. I would definitely support a taxpayer-funded mission to have anti-equality proponents spread their gospel in Afghanistan and Iraq.

  6. Wow, so many crazies all together in one place! This is probably what they felt like seeing a Pride parade (you know, back before Pride parades were corporate events).

  7. Brent, this is probably what they still feel like when they see an interracial couple holding hands in public.

  8. The most important thing said in this clip was the boy asking that the state let him be "normal". part of a loving family.

  9. That little boy was awesome! I hope RI can pass marriage equality like we did in WA!

  11. Tell these nincompoops to drop dead and
take their hateful 40 year culture war
against LGBT civil rights with them.
    Enough.

  14. If that lady testifying wants to be "natural", she should go back to the jungle. "God" is the most unnatural creature humankind has invented.

  15. all those adults rolling around and acting all Jim Jones should be beyond embarrassed.

  16. The time of religion commanding a privileged
and determinitive status in American law
and social policy has come to an end.
    good riddance.

  17. I GET SO UPSET when I hear the argument - "humans procreate through heterosexual union/if we deviate the from the natural order we cease to value creation of life/etc" - People - the gays are ALREADY HAVING GAY SEX and they will continue to have gay sex until the end of time - whether or not gay marriage is legal. Legalizing gay marriage is not going to keep straight people from reproducing!

  18. It's pretty sad (or gratifying and hopeful depending on how you look at it) that the young child is the most sane person in that room.

  19. You know, I often read online comments on how primitive Africans are relating to LGBT rights. And then I see this mob in the lobby.

Really, we have the same people here; it's just that they are less numerous and only run some of the governments here. Sometimes, though, it feels like they are becoming increasingly numerous and powerful.

I take comfort in the statistics of gradually increasing public support for LGBTs, and decreasing religiosity.

  21. As always, the minority of Bible-believing Jesus-worshipers think they can have their way just because they have BIG MOUTHS. In "The Rapture," the entire bodies of Bible-believing Christians disappear. I'm waiting for "The Partial Rapture," in which only their BIG MOUTHS disappear.

  22. "Normal" and "natural", those people in the corridor??
By the way, I thought speaking in tongues in the Bible simply meant that people preaching the gospel to people speaking different language could speak their language and be understood, NOT open one's mouth and speak whatever whine comes out.

  23. We had the same 2 minute limit, with alternating pro and con. It's horrendous. And always two lesbians with their kids followed by wingnuts who say gays shouldn't marry because they practice anal sex and can't reproduce. Hello! Did you see who came before you?

We didn't have the speakers in tongues, though. Not so crazy in VT!

  24. Fun facts about R.I. :

Little Rhody is the most Italian state in America [New Hampshire just 100 miles to the north is the most French, Maine the most English/WASP, Massachusetts the most Irish]

Little Rhody is the 2nd most densely populated state [New Jersey, just 100 or so miles south of R.I. is #1, bordering state Massachusetts is #3]. They all have population densities comparable to England or the Netherlands, the most densely populated Euro countries.

R.I. [and bordering state MA] both have huge Brazilian and Portuguese population, biggest in America along with N.J. Massachusetts southcoast, New Bedford, Providence,R.I. is heavily Portuguese and Italian. But in recent years there's been a big influx of Hispanics, and many are evangelical Protestant Christians.

  25. Oh...and prostitution is legal in-doors in R.I. Providence is only 40 miles south of Boston, so it's a major location for prostitution of all kinds and clubbing.
