Chris Wallace Takes On The NRA's Wayne LaPierre

And the Fox News host doesn't treat him with kid gloves. The two discuss the controversial NRA ad that criticizes the Secret Service protection President Obama's daughters receive at their school. Wallace does not take too kindly to LaPierre's defense of the clip, which first aired last month.

Wallace says to LaPierre: "Do you really think that the President's children are the same kind of target as every schoolchild in America? I think that's ridiculous, and you know it, sir."

  2. Wow, this was on Fox news? LaPierre is a joke

  3. NRA wants to turn our country into a police state with everyone having weapons and our schools into prisons...WTF!

  4. Guess Fox news has been following public opinion polls and figured they better dish it out to the NRA.

LaPierre was in a difficult spot. His organization had paid for a typical, misleading attack ad, and he had two uncomfortable options: he could either try to justify it or he could say, "oh, that was just mindless propaganda for the masses". The latter would sound kind of "communist" though, so his only viable option was to let himself come across as an idiot.

He probably underestimated how hostile a reception he was going to get.

  5. Chris Wallace. Fox News. Hmmm. Son of lauded liberal tough reporter Mike Wallace. I've never been able to peg him, except as a neo-con. Ironic story.

  6. This isn't about his courage in the face of idiocy, or him being emboldened by public opinion. It's about the man who pays his salary--his puppet master Rupert Murdoch--being against it:

  7. ...and about Wayne LaPierre visiting after being lulled into a false sense of security by the otherwise rabid right wing coverage all over the network.

  9. Gay people should be supporting the Second Amendment. We are the targets of violence by people who prey upon us in the belief that we are unable to defend ourselves... and they have plenty of experience to believe that.

I've always thought of gay people as being smarter than your average person. Feinstein's bill does absolutely nothing to make anyone safer. All it would do is open the door to more infringement of your right to keep and bear arms.

  10. La Pierre states that because schools have been attacked, we need armed guards there. But a movie theater was attacked in Aurora. Does that mean that every movie theater needs armed guards? And if some deranged guy shoots up a church, should every church have armed guards - or, perhaps, armed priests?

His vision of America seems to include everyone carrying around a weapon. Of course, the NRA - which is really the lobbying arm of the gun manufacturers - would like that. It's good for business.

I guess LaPierre is really talking to his base. To most everyone else, he seems like a loony.

  11. I am sick of fags who are anti-gun. Next time you are getting your ass worked over by a bunch of thugs, just call 911 and wait. As for me, I'm a fag who packs a 357. Grow up little girls, it's a different world.

  12. I see the NRA have sent us David and Bill to try and convince us that packing heat is in our best interests. Pretending to be "gay guys" to get their point across and scare the queers into needing a gun.

I'm sure they are spamming other comment boards with their propaganda too. I can just see them on a religious website: "I'm sick of you nuns who are ant-gun. Next time you are getting mugged by a bunch of thugs in that poor neighborhood you minister to....".

  13. It's like he has a random assortiment of pro-gun explanations for gun violence (gangs! mental health! not enough guards in schools! law enforcement, Chicago!), and he just picks one at random and starts rambling on about it, regardless of the question he gets asked.

I think it's interesting he blames gun violence on everything...except, you know, the actual weapon which makes it possible for citizens to murder eachother faster than ever before.

I've noticed he keeps trying to push that there are 'gangs' and 'gang violence' whenever he speaks. I think this is a slimy tactic. He's clearly just trying to find any other thing (besides guns) to blame, trying to divert the issue, trying to scare people by making it seem like this whole debate is because of gangs, telling them 'The problem isn't redneck gun fanatics, the problem is gangs, therefore you need a gun for protection!'. The people who buy into that utter BS will get paranoid, buy 5 guns...which their kids will inevitably find and bring to school. Gangs my @$$...the problem is just too many damn guns.

  14. Aaah, I see the NRA is trying the Co$ way of propaganda! How communist of them.

David and Bill should take lessons from those poor Sea Org prisoners: Don't try pretending that you're one of the masses, just outright defend your organization's "legitimacy"... But then again, I'd believe John Travolta is straight before believing the NRA is anything but a mass-murdering promotional machine.

  15. @Billmichael. More likely: your gun gets knocked out of your hand and used against you.

  18. The purpose of the Second Amendment is to arm people in order to prevent future tyranny. They need the tools to do this.

The term "Well Regulated" in the Second Amendment meant "Well Manned and Equipped " in 1791 as was determined in the 1939 United States v. Miller case after referencing the autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. The concept of Government Regulation, as we understand it today, did not exist at the time.

United States v. Miller also determined that the term "Arms" refers to "Ordinary Military Weapons" (not crew operated). American Citizens have the right to Keep and Bear, which means Own and Carry, any weapons that a soldier carries into battle. That includes past, present and future weapons. A Militia consisted of armed volunteers willing to fight with their personal arms and not under government control.

The 2008 Heller v. Washington DC decision reaffirmed that the Right to Bear Arms was an Individual right. The 2010 McDonald v. Chicago decision reaffirmed it yet again and made it clear that it applies to every state, every city and every town in the United States.

To limit the Second Amendment to muskets would be the equivalent of limiting the First Amendment to writings in quill pens.

Liberty is worth the risk of death!

  19. @Bill,
Since you’re here, can you big spenders tell me who is to pay for the swat team you NRA people want at every school? You big government people don’t seem understand that all those armed officers cost money. I used to call people who point a gun at me while reaching in my wallet a criminal but now I can call them the NRA. Yes, I know I had better cough up the big bucks for people like you with your socialist spending spree or there will be more dead school children. Socialist like you just love their guns don’t they.

  20. So sick and tired of reading posters like David and Bill (and other aliases on numerous previous topics) infecting this community site with their pus-spewing ilk. They need to OUTED back to sites where fellow anti-gay posters can bathe in their own venom.

    Posted by: Sam | Feb 4, 2013 3:03:50 PM

  21. Ignore Bill. His understanding of the second amendment is ludicrous even by NRA standards. Americans can carry every weapon a soldier carries? Including grenades, handheld missiles, Bazookas, and night vision goggles that enable you to use your high powered gun to shoot at very long distances at 3 am? Not to mentions more magazines than you could carry?

Can you send me a couple grenades?

  24. Yes Bill because you know guns only stay in the city/county of which they were purchased. There is no way to bring them into Chicago, no way at all. Idiot.

This is why a national gun strategy is needed.
