Tom Hardy Rumored To Be Circling Elton John Biopic

Tom Hardy Inception

Fresh off of the success of Behind the Candelabra, HBO’s Liberace biopic, come casting rumors about another upcoming film project centered around another gay musical performer.

Elton John’s Rocketman, which has been in development for a few years now, has recently come into the spotlight once again amid rumors that Tom Hardy, star of films such as The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, This Is War, Bronson, and the upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road, is currently circling the lead role. Hardy has yet to receive a formal offer or offer a comment. However, HitFlix has reportedly received news from within that producers Elton John, David Furnish, and Steve Hamilton-Shaw, and director Michael Gracy currently have Hardy at the top of their most-wanted list.

John has previously expressed interest in having actor-musician Justin Timberlake play the lead role, one that he has already performed in a David LaChapelle video and on Saturday Night Live. No news has been released as to whether Timberlake is still in the running.

If they are not interchangeable (at least in the minds eye) then it won’t work. Could the younger Elton play Tom Hardy? Then Tom can’t play Elton. Elton should be played by that la Pour woman…what’s her name?

Hardy has the acting chops to do it – and he’d be able to get Elton’s accent right (much as I like Timberlake as an actor and performer, he doesn’t have a great ear for accents).

Hardy’s range as an actor is immense – far greater than his stint in Hollywood suggests. He’s able to inhabit a role like very few other actors of his age.

Also, Mr Ehrenstein, do you mean Renata rather than Regina? Given your biblically advanced age, we’ll forgive you that slip. Unless, of course, your famously acidic wit was making a point about queens? :-)

Woild probably be an extremely whitewashed biopic, otherwise I’m imagining huge lawsuits in the future — is Elton an executive producer? And who would even watch this?

Elton was NEVER butch, nor handsome, so Tom Hardy seems wrong.
Justin is a much better “vaudeville” type performer than he is as a romantic singer, and he can probably pass better as the early Elton.

Hardy’s certainly a good enough actor, but way too good looking to play Elton – Timberlake’s homely/normal enough from the right angles to pull it off

Another hetero gets to play gay and get acting credibility for it. How many of these guys avoided gay people when they were in school? I bet all of them. So it’s ironic that the gay people they avoided are now they ones they have attached to to get awards. Avoiding gay people, is that the reason these Hollywood productions have heteros in all the leading roles and crew? To establish a hetero club even in making a gay-centered movie.

Neither one of them are good looking. Not Elton and Tom just looks like a man, nothing special, like the guy who fixes my car, or Joe the Plumber. Meh.
