1. Homo Genius says

Kind of a tangent but Russian gay porn seems to focus on “kidnapping”, torture and rape. If I didn’t know the context of the story this would have looked like an ad for any number of Russian sites

  2. Kenn says

The “thumbs up” in Russia is rude, does anyone know if the hand gesture above (which the victim in the video also did) is the equivalent or something else?

  3. disgusted American says

Im sickened by this story….and why do I feel its similiar to mid 1930’s Germany?

  4. Kev C says

Kidnapping underage boys. How is that not gay and not pedophilia? Real heterosexual men don’t kidnap underage boys. Russia, you’re so backwards it’s stupid.

  5. oscar says

This is such a huge human rights violation. If this is they kind of society Russia wants to be, then a boycott is a good start; time for the HRC to step it up and call out the savagery that is behind this sickening, dehumanizing behavior. Disgusting.

Every time something like this is exposed I get this hopeless feeling and wish that we are wiped out by some sort of mass disease or perhaps a complete annihilation of the planet by a comet or something like that. Only something like this would ever resolve this behavior.

  6. Rad says

Baiting underage boys? Really? That is hetero macho? What kind of sick country is that?

  7. anon says

Gays are not popular in Russia. The country is not exactly filled to the brim with kind hearted souls either.

  8. JAMES B. says

This is heartbreaking. The fear and isolation these men must feel on a daily basis must be overwhelming. Makes me think of my own childhood in the 80’s. Thankfully I didn’t have anyone bating me.

  9. litper says

Please share this video with everyone! Make it a highlight of every news page. So people can see what Russia trully is.

  10. Patric says

“There is almost no doubt, as well, that videos like the one below will play a significant role in the debate.” Sadly, there is little reason to expect that these videos, as horrifying as they are and as much as they will rightfully impact sentiment about Russia in Western LGBT communities, will play a significant role in the discussion (which thus far, regrettably, can hardly be called a debate) – or silencing of discussion – of these issues in Russia.

  11. gomez says

prepare for more horrific stories against lgbt people across the world. the backlash is just getting started and it’s gonna last a long while

  12. Ryan says

Just reading this nearly brought me to tears. I couldn’t fathom watching the videos.

It’s almost to the point where we should just start a world-wide method of helping LGBT people escape these countries and come to places where they’re safe. Help get them jobs, housing, refugee status, etc. Is there anyone working on this? I don’t have much money, but that’s a cause I would find something to give to…

  13. Chris says

My Grandmother was born into a wealthy family in the Russian Empire, they lost everything when the communists came into power and had to flee the country. A few weeks ago she repeated to me something that she had once said to me before: “Never underestimate what evil Russia is capable of”. It’s sad how she hates her own country. But like she said to me “My great Russia is worlds away from the Russia of today”.

I’m hoping that the international community will act on this deplorable situation. Not holding my breath, but I hope so. We should do to them what we did to South Africa during the apartheid.

  14. PaulintheBK says

In the words of our former Sect. of State in her speech in 2011 in Geneva, Switzerland, in honor of International Human Rights Day

“It is violation of human rights when people are beaten or killed because of their sexual orientation or because they do not conform to cultural norms about how men and women should look or behave. It is a violation of human rights when governments declare it illegal to be gay or allow those who harm gay people to go unpunished. It is a violation of human rights when lesbian or transgendered women are subjected to so-called corrective rape or forcibly subjected to hormone treatments, or when people are murdered after public calls for violence toward gays, or when they are forced to flee their nations and seek asylum in other lands to save their lives. And it is a violation of human rights when life-saving care is withheld from people because they are gay, or equal access to justice is denied to people because they are gay, or public spaces are out of bounds to people because they are gay. No matter what we look like, where we come from, or who we are, we are all equally entitled to our human rights and dignity.”

    Boycott the Olympics!

  15. dh says

Why is it that so many russians have that dead-behind-the-eyes look. I swear to God they they do not have souls.

  16. American Dreamer says

I think this ultranationalist movement is setting the groundwork for a facist state that will take over Russia once Putin and his one man government are gone

I suspect the next government will be led by an ultranationalist figure who makes Putin look like a pacifist in comparison

Then the military state that takes over will initiate a reign of terror against gays, jews, minorities (there are plenty of them across Russia) and liberals

This will be the inevitable result of Putin’s one man state after he leaves a power vacuum in his wake

  17. Rafael says

Ваша страна не является безопасным. Пожалуйста, оставьте сейчас. Я знаю, это не будет решением проблемы, но вы можете сделать больше за пределами России.

  18. says

I’ve been wondering why this hadn’t reached the Western press yet… Russians have been discussing it for a while. One of the leaders is even underage himself, so probably immune to some kind of prosecution (I don’t think anyone has been prosecuted or even charged yet).

  19. says

Before this the boycott was important but hey, nobody is dying. Now it’s a matter of life and death, now boycotting the Olympics is a paramount issue. We really, REALLY need to create some better lobbying groups, we need to be able to pressure our government to take actions.

  20. Israfel says

a 15 yrs old can’t leave his country, family & everything behind just like that, running away from a problem doesn’t make it go away, of course people outside Russia can do more than those living there, but not everyone (teens especially) can just pack their sh!t & leave there needs to be action within the communities to counteract these Nazi c*cksuckers.

  21. Jim says

I bet that his tormentors are sexually turned on by what they are doing! a bunch of pervert sadists.

  22. Acronym Jim says

Thanks for the link to Durov’s twitter page. Can anyone read on this site read Russian? Because according to a May 2013 Business Insider story, Pavel Durov no longer has control of and is apparently in hiding. His last tweet seems to bear this out.

Given his current situation and libertarian views, I wouldn’t want to assume Durov supports or condones these atrocious acts of homophobia.

“Earlier in April, Putin-backed businessman Ilya Sherbovich led a hostile takeover of VK, secretly buying up 48% of shares. After the takeover, allies of Putin control around 88% of the company, according to Quartz. Durov is left with just 12%, running a serious risk of losing control.

Horrifying.Disgusting homophobic scum.We must fight back,we must make our voices heard.

  24. MickyFlip says

That image with the men on either side of the young man is very real I was told when questioning the authenticity of it after seeing it on Facebook. What irritates me was after being emotionally moved, I went and reposted on a LOT of pages and sites. Including my own page and Philly Rad Fae page. And I was basically crucified for posting such a brutal and horrific image that they demanded I take down. In fact, someone on said same page stated if I felt compelled to draw ire that I should consider starting a march in DC about it instead of causing much unease and fear within the Rad Fae association. Talk about *Bleep* up!!

  25. Rowena Plant says

  26. flo says

why didn’t you blur the faces of the victims?
reporting on public shaming by reposting the very same pictures, giving them even more public exposure doesn’t make any sense.

  27. Bob R says

I do not doubt that this video is real; however, it must be old, at least by several months. It is July, and it is not snowing in Moscow. The amount of snow shown here, it must have been at least prior to April 2013.

  28. jan andersen says

Doing that to such a young boy – almost a child – is just so mean…..but we have seen again and again that Russia is not a very civilised country. Shame.

  29. John Hammond says

We should not forget that Putin and his thugs has the full support of the dreadful Russian Orthodox Church. So, nothing new there, then.

  30. Fred says

IDK, growing up in the US in the 70’s-80’s wasn’t much different for me…

So Russia is a couple decades behind, big surprise.

If you want to make a difference, reach out to gay people there, and in our own more oppressive states here.

Yeah, it’s horrifying. And yeah, your support can make the difference between someone living or simply giving up.

  31. Jess says

How about everyone realise that Russia is a great country to be gay in compared to all of africa and every moslem country in the world. But you guys are just to chicken to stand up to those countries sp you whine at Russia instead.
