"Many gay people in Russia today believe that there is no future in fighting homophobia here, and are pretty depressed about the situation, thinking they’ll have to either get used to it or emigrate. But back in the 60s, at the time of Stonewall, American gays and lesbians had nowhere to go; they had to fight. And we need people ready to fight in Russia today as well. Our turn has come: the front line in the battle with prejudice has reached our streets, whether we like it or not."

  1. >> But back in the 60s, at the time of Stonewall, American gays and lesbians had nowhere to go; they had to fight.

Yes, well, it was a lil different for Americans, they lived in a first-world, Western country. Russia just isn't either of those things, despite the efforts of Peter the Great and Catherine the Great, Gorbachev, etc.

  2. What Russia has done has not scared the LGBT citizens into hiding, as they wish. Instead, their policies have had the same effect it has in every other country, to galvanize the group being oppressed into action against the oppressor.

  4. How is it possible that Madonna is tone-deaf one day and this great chanteuse the next? Still haven't figured it out in all these years.

  5. Does anyone else have trouble with the comment posting on Towleroad. It seems that about 25% of the time my comment is said to have been posted, but it isn't.

My first attempt here was to address the first item about ENDA. The pollster claims that even 80% of Republicans support ENDA. I find that extremely hard to believe.

  6. I for one would be happy to see some blowback against those neonazi freaks in Russia (and other former Soviet bloc countries). If we're not going to offer them asylum in the US, then we should arm them, train them, and let them have a fighting chance.

  7. If past history is any guide, a Stonewall in Russia would not end well.

  8. Russia is at least fifteen years away from being Stonewall-safe. Today, the response would be brutal and most of the public would cheer.

  9. Did the world really need more Jeff Koons pieces on skinny blonde sex objects? Did we not get enough with all the pieces he made with his ex-wife?

  10. I cannot, in all good consciousness, get behind Hillary Clinton. There is just SO much baggage with her and her husband that, unless the GOP places a Michele Bachman or Jan Brewer to run against her, she is unelectable.

  11. I wish Madonna would stop trying to be an "Artist". That ship has sailed.
