Lesbian Couple Elected Homecoming Queen and Queen at Calabasas, CA High School: VIDEO

A lesbian couple was elected Homecoming Queen and Queen at Calabasas High School outside L.A., KTLA reports:

2_calabasasLily Cohen and her partner, Greta Melendez, were nominated by their classmates for titles that historically have been awarded to a male and a female student. But times are changing.

“I was really surprised, actually,” Cohen said. “But I thought it was really amazing.”

“I was just shocked because it’s just amazing to see how much our school has changed in the past four years,” Melendez said. “When I was a freshman, we wouldn’t have gotten that reaction. I went through a lot of bullying.”

Melendez is president of the school's Gay-Straight Alliance.

  3. Congratulations to them!

As an aside, "partner" seems a bit much for high school girls. Surely "girlfriend" would be a better description?

  5. That's so wonderful. Congratulations ladies! It's hard to believe that someplace there's such hostility in schools and other places it's not a big deal.

  8. "Partner?" These are just high school girls! They may break up next month. And there are plenty of adult gay couples dating that simply refer to each other as boyfriend and girlfriend. We are so uptight and respectable these days I guess.
