NOM's Brian Brown Says Rose Parade Gay Marriage Float Was Used to 'Indoctrinate Kids' - AUDIO

National Organization for Marriage president Brian Brown fell back on some of his well-worn talking points when discussing the same-sex wedding that was featured during last week's Rose Parade in Pasedena. Brown's comments that the float was really just used to "target children" came during a radio interview with Voice of Russia on Friday. Via Right Wing Watch.

Said Brown:

Brian Brown"We know that when you redefine marriage this is taught in schools, we know that teachers tell kids that folks who believe in this notion of marriage as a union between a man and a woman are discriminating, they’re the functional equivalent of bigots.

And now it hasn’t even stopped in the classroom, now the idea has to be, well, at family events we need to make a point to have a same-sex marriage to sort of put it right in their faces and call them out. Well, that’s just wrong. In America, we can disagree over key issues, but the idea that you would target children and make this about using a family event to sort of indoctrinate kids, that’s just wrong."

  3. REMEMBER, FOLKS, HE IS PAID TO SAY THIS STUFF
    ..no point in answering him.

However, I, a 100% marriage equality advocate, can see the point that a parade is kid-oriented, and the wedding could be used for anti-Gay propaganda. The Macys parade, with Kinky Boots, was nonsense to criticize, as the show is fantasy.
We have a line to walk, not to avoid "offending" assholes, but to avoid giving excess ammunition.
For instance, the Chick-Fulla-Hate thing went against us, because the hate restaurants are in the South.
The Duckheaded guy and others also use us to get farther with Southern audiences.
It's tricky -- but I suggest responding with "Do not use hateful language", rather than "You hate us"

  4. Brian -no one knows better about indoctrination than Xtian fundamentalists.

You are your own fairy tale's worst nightmare.

  5. In many U.S. states gay couples can marry. Therefore, showcasing a marriage during a parade is simply reflecting a reality that exists - not pushing an agenda. When a social change takes place, signs of this change start to appear publicly. Does Brian Brown expect no gay married couple anywhere to act like a married couple until the issue of marriage equality is settled nation-wide? I know this is what he'd like, but it isn't at all realistic. He's old enough to understand how social change occurs. His claim is bogus.

So as a former homophobe let me say congratulations to all the newly married lesbian women and their wives and the newly married gay men and their husbands. See Brian? We have to start calling them "wives" and "husbands" because...well, that's what they are now!

  6. No, BB. It is saying to gay kids that it is OK to be who you ARE and not to be ashamed and that you WILL be respected by everyone but your ilk - ie, bigoted douchebags! And your hate is helping us more than you care to know. You CANNOT make someone gay no more than yiu can make someone a straight a**hole!

  7. Brian Brown is a marketer of bigotry. Anything that can be twisted to fit his diatribe he'll use. Know why he hit on influencing children? Early influence on a childs thinking is how religions indoctrinate.

Who said this Brian? “Give me the child until he is seven and I’ll give you the man”.

    St. Francis Xavier Catholic priest.

  8. "In many U.S. states gay couples can marry. Therefore, showcasing a marriage during a parade is simply reflecting a reality that exists - not pushing an agenda. When a social change takes place, signs of this change start to appear publicly."

Absolutely correct, @Mary. And you beat me to it, well said.

  9. The interviewer should ask him if it is wrong, what should we do? Should we pass some "anti gay propaganda" law in the US following in the footsteps of his great fuhrer Putin.

  10. Indoctrination into religion starts at birth with a prayer and a soon-to-follow christening (baptism if you wish). They tried to indoctrinate me but strength of self, character and intelligence prevailed. I don't need a god to be good. Man created the gods, after all.

  15. I think Brian is getting desperate. His pope is not on his side anymore. The RCC is dealing with dropping donations which threaten Brian's future income. His arch-enemies (teh gays) are no longer a boogie man he can rely on to raise money.

He has eight kids and a dropping income.

    Karma.

  16. Brian Brown must be practicing for a career as a stand-up comedian - it must take a lot of practice to spout the stuff he does while keeping a straight face.

  17. Oh sure, just like last year's Rose Parade wedding of a man and a woman indoctrinated kids to heterosexual marriage, right? After that, marriage between boys and girls shot up a whopping 0.01%!

  18. @ BOB, Kinky Boots was actually based on the Movie of the same name which is based on a true story, not 100% fantasy.
The fact is, as many others have states, LGBT people exist, have relationships, get married, have children, (sadly) sometimes get divorced; in other words, the same as anyone else.
We are not an agenda. We are not a fad. We are your family, your neighbors, your citizens. We have always been here and we are not going away.

  20. Thought of the Day: Wait until kids are 21 to tell them about religion or circumcision and you won't find a lot of interest. Now Mr. NOM President, what were you saying about indoctrination?

  21. If a kid is actually watching the rose bowl parade, he is likely gay already.

Does he actually believe anyone is going to see a float in a parade with two guys getting married will turn someone gay?

It might let a gay teen realize he is not alone in the world.

  23. Ah I see...the gay wedding float was to convert kids to be gay. Then if that's true, using that same logic the eHarmony float was there to brainwash kids to be straight. Problem solved Brian.

  24. look at his lips and face - the lips remind me of minister ted Haggards - often a sign of a gay male

Also there is an element of feminimity in his face - anthother clue to his real desires - being the bottom in the relationship

Why did a quaker become a catholic- the church put him thru their fix program

All they do is drive them so far into the closet that they become pathological liars and throw out their self hatred on their own kind
