Vladimir Putin: Russia Should 'Cleanse' Itself of Homosexuality

The interview with George Stephanopoulos wasn't the only one Russian President Vladimir Putin gave over the weekend, and in an interview with Russian and foreign television stations he offered more information about his views on gay people.

V_putinPutin believes that 'propaganda' can turn a child gay:

Putin refused to answer a question from the BBC on whether he believes that people are born gay or become gay. The Russian law, however, suggests that information about homosexuality can influence a child's sexual orientation.

He equated gays and pedophiles:

He said the law was aimed at banning propaganda of homosexuality and pedophilia, suggesting that gays are more likely to abuse children.

And, using more worrisome language, he suggested that Russia would benefit if the population were 'cleansed' of gays:

Making another favourite argument against homosexuality, Putin noted with pride that Russia saw more births than deaths last year for the first time in two decades. Population growth is vital for Russia's development and "anything that gets in the way of that we should clean up," he said, using a word usually reserved for military operations.

And by the way, Russia loves Elton John:

"Millions of our people sincerely love him despite his orientation."

  1. Putin is a Neanderthal on issues of LGBT history and equal rights (with apologies to Neanderthals everywhere). He and his Duma have made Russian one of the dumbest countries on Earth.

  2. This meglomaniac is embracing a doctrine of genocide towards LGBT in the mold of Hitler and the USA is still participating in the Sochi Olympics, now that's American exceptionalism for you. BOYCOTT THIS MONSTER FLOWER AND DEFUND THE SOCHI OLYMPICS, anything less is appeasement to the enemy and should be treated as treason.

  3. Putin is a dangerous weirdo. One wonders if he is hiding homosexual feelings within himself. It's appalling that the USA is going to Sochi.

  4. They also equated Jewish citizens with unfavorable and unethical acts before they decided they should be "cleansed" of them.

  5. This guy sounds more and more like Hitler. How far does he need to go before countries realize that they have let him go too far?

And in the meantime the world is planning to fill his bank account during the Olympics.

  6. Exactly @ROB. How far does this have to go before the world sits up and says 'no more!' Gay people being sent to concentration camps? Public hangings? WAKE UP WORLD - this is happening RIGHT NOW!!!!

  7. I am thinking about the cyclical nature of humans through history. In 1914, we had anti-semite political leadership in the US and abroad that thought the Jews should be "controlled" and did little about the growing anti-semitism in the world. Very few diplomatic channels focused on the issue. It was not until after the holocaust began that these world leaders decided to intervene.

Today we have anti-gay leadership in the US and abroad that thinks gay should be "controlled" and they are doing about the growing homophobia in the world. Very little diplomatic effort has been made...

Do ya see a pattern here?

  8. His words will promote further abuses and now murdering of gays in USSR. I think he must be beheaded at once.

  9. So many Russians have left the country, so many are alcoholics and the breeding rate has dropped because Russia is such a miserable place to live.

Finding a minority to blame may play well with the Russian voter but it will only make their problems worse. It will become more and more difficult for Russia to keep the surrounding ethnic groups under the Russian thumb. Witness the terrorists acts and threats.

Sochi Olympics may be the biggest economic disaster to hit Russia since the last Soviet five year plan.

  10. Yeah, that's why I'm gay. All that pro-gay propaganda I saw as a child in the 70s that showed how pitiful and disgusting gay people are. yeah, that's what happened.

  13. The overpopulated world needs fewer people, not more.
The highest standard of living in the world (based on practically any measurement from infant mortality rate to life expectancy to the UN's ranking of where it is safest to raise a child) is nearly identical yo the list of places that are most accepting of gay people.
The world's worst cesspools of violence and corruption, poor sanitation and economic disaster are those places that have both the highest birth rates and the most anti-gay attitudes.
It's also so ironic that he thinks that laws that forbid gays from being parents will increase the birth rate.

  19. He doesn't know the facts, or purposefully lies about them, and not only about criminalization of homosexuality in the US.

He SAYS the law is against "propaganda of pedophilia and homosexuality."

    The law doesn't mention pedophilia.
    And it doesn't mention homosexuality.
It's against "propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations."
They took out "homosexuality" so the foreign gays wouldn't get upset! Of course that's exactly what the law targets, but it doesn't use the word homosexuality at all.

Furthermore, there's more to the pedophilia connection in the same interview -- though it's for some reason not reported much: Putin claims that in Europe several countries are seriously considering decriminalizing pedophilia. Seriously. It's part of the anti-Europe propaganda campaign.

  22. LISTEN UP FOLKS! Putin is using the exact verbiage that Adolf Hitler used in his speeches on the subject of what to do about Jews and homosexuals and other "undesirables". Are we ready to ACT UP?

  25. This is once of those instances when being forewarned does NOT also mean being forearmed. Brace yourselves, gays and those who care, because another genocidal 'final solution' attempt will be made against gays. And it probably will spread beyond Russia's borders, and no government will intervene.
