Russian Gay Activist Disrupts Scott Lively’s Speech at Anti-LGBT Event in D.C. – VIDEO

Screen Shot 2014-02-21 at 9.39.37 PM

At a ‘pro-family’ press conference in D.C. on Friday, evangelist Scott Lively was caught on camera being heckled by Viacheslav Revin, a Russian gay activist and refugee in the U.S.

Queer Russia reports:

Revin disrupted Scott Lively’s presentation and made a statement with a help of Ellen Sturtz translating his speech into English:

"Homophobia is a first step toward dictatorship! Putin is a dictator who condemned to death thousands of orphaned children by banning foreign adoptions. Putin is a corrupted thief who invents scapegoats and deflects attention from his crimes. His latest invention is the anti-gay law, so gays in modern Russia feel like jews back in the USSR. Declaring support for Putin means denying the democracy and demanding racial segregation. This is what Putin doing in Russia now in regards to gays and migrant workers from Central Asia."

Lively-protest1Lively's speech was intended to announce the creation of the Coalition for Family Values, which includes Peter LaBarbera, Linda Harvey, and others dedicated to “confronting LGBT agenda” and supporting the Russian government’s anti-gay efforts.

Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

Earlier this week, HRC released a video denouncing Lively and other prominent U.S. anti-gay activists for their work in helping Russia pass its gay propaganda law.

  1. How many Jews did Hitler *personally* execute in the gas chambers?

How many gays has Lively *personally* dragged into the streets, beaten and killed?

What do these men have in common? They fanned the flame of hatred that led to both.

He should be tried for crimes against humanity. The blood on scott lively's hands is a deeep deeeeeep red.

  2. I cannot fathom why this oaf is not under arrest.
He has been instrumental in undermining universal human rights in Russia.

He has manipulated a deadly concoction of anti gay hatred which we have all compared with the anti-jewish deadly hatred of the thirties in Germany.

We say we didn't know it was happening back then; we have no such lame excuse now.
Hear it loud and clear - Lively's whipping up of bigotry will lead to the deaths of gays.
We know what he has done.

We hear his anti human rights incitement to hatred.
USA has signed the universal declaration n human rights; this clown is a traitor to those rights.
The USA cannot criticise North Korea and allow this traitor walk the streets.

  3. Revin is a new Russian hero and the phrase "Lively is Deadly" is brilliantly true.

  7. The same right wing nut jobs that preach in Russia today are the same right wing nut jobs that would have nuked Russia in the 50's. Joe McCarthy?

  8. ME (above) has a good point. That would be far more cost effective than a lengthy court trial in which he'd (nowadays) get off on some silly technicality, only to then write some gawd awful book that would then go on to be a (right wing) bestseller.

  11. Awesome! Thank you Mr. Revin. Time to start fighting back like this. I can't stand Lively. There's nothing good about him at all

  12. If you're going to disrupt don't use a translator. Russians are braver than Americans.

  13. There are many countries that would probably bar scott lively's entry. I doubt britain or germany would let him in to give a speech.

  14. Please pay attention to how this man has been working. He is instigating in Africa, in Russia, as well as in America. He is not working alone. This is a movement that is not going to get tired and fade away when the general population gets bored with the news feeds. This is a movement that Lively is a key part of, and they are aligning with NOM, an organization given support by the Catholic Church if not credited so, the rightwing evangelical churches and organizations across America, the ultraconservative politicians in Russia, and the religiously focused politicians in Uganda and Nigeria. They see the courts, legislatures and general public polls in America failing them, and they are digging in deep for "The Stand". You need to stand your own ground and VOTE in both federal and state elections to get ahead of them...even though the Republican Party is trying to limit your ability to vote. That political party has become the rightwingers whore...paid for playing along.

  15. Oooh....Scott Deadly doesn't like to be confronted by the very people whose rights he is instrumental in taking away. He wants gay people to be quiet and let him talk about how he wants them silenced and their rights restricted. Sorry, Scott. We are not going to go away. Poor, poor, Scotty boy. He should be convicted of crimes against humanity and imprisoned for the rest of his life, and then he can talk to himself without interruption.

  16. Lively looks like a total perv. Why hasn't anyone looked into his background. What's he hiding? Why is he so antigay? It's only a matter of time before we find his kiddie porn.

  17. And what exactly IS our agenda? It's to STOP the MURDER and TORTURE of innocent gay men and women. Well if that's Facist, I'm Donald Duck.

  18. @Little Kiwi : you aren't thinking. One difference between Lively and Hitler is that Lively can merely spout whereas Hitler could give orders that would be carried out.

    Here's an example:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WF55QjIxDXY
(It's from a very funny movie, the original "To be or not to be", In the video, a group of ham actors escape from Poland during World War II by having one of them impersonate Hitler, and they have to get rid of the German pilots, who the fake Hitler orders to jump out of an airplane sans parachutes.)

  20. This is how you do it.....

    Posted by: styler | Feb 23, 2014 9:38:51 AM

  21. Huh.

No disruptions at 'gay' press conferences, but lots at anti-gay ones. You would think that would cause people to stop and think about the validity of the anti-gay position.

Of course not. Those gay people are just rude too.

    (rolls eyes)

  22. that group with Mr. Lively is indeed a very evil combination of some of the most hateful anti-gay folks of the right wing.......

  23. What is the best way to express my fury against an individual, and group of Christians who would have us incarcerated or killed (like right now in Uganda and Russia) because they sincerely believe they're better than us? I don't think they're deserving of civility.
