John Oliver Tackles Uganda’s Anti-Gay Law: VIDEO

John Oliver went after Uganda’s draconian anti-gay laws on his show yesterday, with particular emphasis placed on the origins of the laws. Spoiler alert: both the U.S. and the U.K. have blood on their hands.

The "Last Week Tonight" host also pointed out that merely calling Uganda’s law “harsh doesn’t really do them justice”:

“That’s like calling Stalin a bit of a grump. Or the triangle shirt-waist fire a ‘whoopsie-do.’ Or the Titanic a disappointing vacation.”

  1. How did Comedy Central let John Oliver get away? He should have been the replacement for Stephen Colbert. His single-topic shows have the ability to go into depths that The Daily Show doesn't cover. John Oliver has found his voice; it's both hilarious and deeply moving.

  2. I'm really glad that with the Colbert Report ending pretty soon, we have John Oliver to make up for it, he's wonderful.

  5. I almost wish it were an entire show on one topic. The last 15 minutes of the past two or three episodes have been television at their greatest.

  6. I thought that song was made-up, but it's real.

It's by Signe Walsøe. It was posted on her Facebook and YouTube (Part I and Part II!), and has received ... shall we say ... negative response.

I don't suppose anyone saved it, before it was removed from YouTube?
