Billy Crystal Gives Emotional Tribute To Robin Williams At The Emmys: VIDEO

During last night's Emmys broadcast, comedian Billy Crystal gave a moving tribute to the life and legacy of Robin Williams. Crystal spoke about Williams' brilliant work, his unique and unrivaled creative genius and his many virtues as a friend. Perhaps most poignantly, Crystal compared Williams to an extinct star far out in the heavens: though it may be gone, its light still shines on us.

No disrespect intended toward Robin Wiliiams, but the In Memoriam reel was an inadequate tribute to Sid Caesar. If anyone should have been singled out, it was this man.

He was a pioneer in the medium of television & a giant in the entertainment industry. Nominated for 11 Emmys (winning 2), he’ll be a chapter in the history of TV while Robin William will barely rate a footnote.

Sorry to disagree, but Robin Williams made the transition to movies that Sid Caesar did not. He also proved himself to be a fantastic dramatic actor. While I understand the significance of Sid Caesar, Robin Williams had more of a range. So, they are both important, but in different ways.

My eyes were dry throughout. The Robin Williams I was a fan of DIED in the 1980s when he started doing self-indulgent self-righteous crap like GOOD MORNING VIETNAM and DEAD POETS SOCIETY, and shite like PATCH ADAMS was the real nail in the coffin.

RIP and all. I’ll always treasure the good stuff.
