Gay 'American Idol' Contestant MK Nobilette Gets 'Satisfaction' From Her Performance: VIDEO

MknobiletteMK Nobilette, the first openly gay contestant to compete on "American Idol," wowed the judges and the audience last night with her rendition of Allen Stone's "Satisfaction." She, along with the other contestants, will have to wait until tonight to find out who goes home, but based on this reaction Nobilette will hopefully be sticking around for a while.

Idolator reports:

MK Nobilette is looking absolutely adorable with minimal makeup and a turned-back baseball cap. She switches from her usual ballads to give a rousing version of “Satisfaction” by Allen Stone. In her pale pink suit and black sneaks, she really looks the part of a quirky, unique pop star. She’s soulful throughout the performance, really owning the stage. Harry calls her beautiful and he’s enjoyed watching her “grow.” He seriously can’t stop gushing and I actually don’t blame him. Keith tells her that even when she’s nervous, “Your voice never fails you.” Jennifer calls the song selection “smart” and has nothing but good things to say.

American Idol's First Openly Gay Contestant MK Nobilette Stuns with Opening Performance: VIDEO

Mmk_nobilette

American Idol's first openly gay contestant MK Nobilette (who has two moms, as well!) got a standing ovation from the Idol arena away last night with her first performance, an intimate rendition of John Legend's "All of Me".

And while MK's performance was something to watch, a show of another sort was going on in the audience as one of her moms could not hold it together watching her daughter sing.

There are big things in store for this girl, hopefully.

Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

'American Idol' Has its First Openly Gay Contestant in 13 Seasons: VIDEO

Mk_nobilette

For the first time in 13 seasons, an openly gay contestant is in American Idol's Top 30. There have obviously been gay contestants on the show, but until now, none had spoken about their sexuality on camera, "seemingly by the show’s design," EW notes:

“I’m very obviously gay, and there are always gonna be people in America and everywhere else who will definitely hate me,” said [20-year-old MK] Nobilette while waiting to hear her Hollywood Week fate before the judges. “But I think that in the last two years there have been a lot of things that have really changed that, and have made it a positive thing.”

“Thank goodness,” murmured Harry Connick Jr.

Watch Nobilette's final audition and judging, original audition (at about 8:52 in the first clip) and an earlier interview, AFTER THE JUMP...

As rumored, American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken is going to run for Congress in North Carolina. The seat Aiken would be planning a run for is held by Rep. Renee Ellmers.

Watch his announcement, AFTER THE JUMP...

The News Observer reports:

Aiken’s decision to enter the race has already reshaped the field.
