Henry Rollins Again Proves Himself An Awesome Gay Ally

Rollins

In a post called "Gay Marriage is Punk Rock" at LA Weekly, former Black Flag frontman and perennial ally Henry Rollins celebrates marriage equality in Washington State and wonders when we'll finally be able to just call same-sex nuptials what they are: "marriage," no prefix, no suffix, no "othering."

From his piece:

Marriage equality is a term so ridiculous on its face that when you hear it mentioned, you would think you were in Riyadh. Years from now, perhaps we can lose the equality part, the same-sex part and call it what it is -- marriage. As much as the homophobes, an ever-thinning herd, whines and screeches, the earth is shifting underneath their feet and things are getting better all the time. This is going to be an incredible century. Didn't get off to a very good start but we are making some bold and exciting strides forward.

Rollins even predicts that there will come a day when there are no gay pride marches, writing, "One day, there will be no gay-pride parades because there simply won't be a need for them. Years from now, those who marched will be seen as heroic."

Henry Rollins Blasts Boehner On DOMA Defense

Rollins_Henry Former Black Flag frontman turned actor Henry Rollins has consistently used his influence and position to push progressive politics, particularly when it comes to LGBT rights.

You can be sure, then, that he's pretty pissed about House Speaker John Boehner's decision to defend DOMA in Congress.

And Rollins is venting that anger over at Vanity Fair

[Obama] says his administration will no longer defend DOMA in court. Being happy about that would be like rejoicing that doctors are no longer applying leeches to patient’s faces when they complain of nasal congestion. It’s not a bad thing, though, and about damn time.

In to save the day, to keep those damn gays in their place, is House Speaker John Boehner, who will put himself and his sterling reputation on the line to stand against the president, his insurgent gay terrorist pals, and their dreams of marriage and equal protection under the law. That’s a relief.

When things threaten to become too constitutional, thankfully, there’s someone like John Boehner, owner of every third tear cried in America, to step in and attempt to push America back into the good old days of darkness. Rather than shoulder the awesome burden of creating some damned jobs in America, he goes for the easy cheap shot of going after gay Americans. Again.

Rollins concludes by reminded Boehner that all Americans, even the gays, have a right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

He also points out, quite rightly, that Boehner needs to focus on more pressing problems, like the economy: "Damn, congressman, we’re trying to get up the road here. Either lay out a plan for job creation for all of us to see or get out of the way."

Henry Rollins and Glenn Danzig Drawn Up as Gay Lovers

Henry_glenn

Punk metal musicians Glenn Danzig and Henry Rollins are portrayed as gay lovers in a new comic book.

Writes creator Tom Neely:

"Henry & Glenn Forever is a love story to end all love stories! The premise of this Cantankerous Titles-released comic is explained at the front of the zine: 'Henry and Glenn are very good 'friends.' They are also 'room mates.' Daryl and John live next door. They are satanists.' What follows is ultra-metal violence and cryfest diary entries, cringing self-doubt and mega-hilarious emo-meltdowns. Who knew Danzig was such a vulnerable, self-conscious sweety-pie? Who knew Rollins was such a caring spouse? Who knew Hall and Oates were so infernally evil—yet so considerate? Well, illustrating/writing team Igloo Tornado (featuring super-awesome comixdude Tom Neely) did and they kicked down 64 fully-illustrated pages with it. Genius on all fronts. Terrifyingly cute. Cutely terrifying. As the real-life Rollins says, quoted on the back cover, 'Has Glenn seen this? Trust me, he would not be impressed.'"

Henry Rollins Would Kick Your Arse if He Was Gay

Henry Rollins is down in Australia, where he's set to perform in Sydney. And he continues to speak out about homophobia. He spoke with the Sydney Star Observer:

Rollins"While attending a military school, Rollins was struck with disgust as a teacher’s open attacks on a gay student led to the boy attempting suicide. It stayed with him as a defining event and he has gone on to publicly lambast institutions and propagators of homophobia. He hosted the successful Wedrock concert to raise awareness of same-sex rights to marriage and has made his views on gay rights well known. While still strongly denying all rumours that he is gay, Rollins puts across the message for gay rights strongly and simply. 'To me it’s just common sense. You come out of the womb and you’re something. You’re straight, you’re gay or you’re lucky,' he said. 'You know what you are very soon in your life. So when someone says you can’t love that person, you can’t marry that person I’m like, 'Really, fuck you!' Boy, if I was gay I would kick your arse!'"

You may remember we noted he wanted to kick arse last May. One of these days he's gonna do it.

'IF I WAS GAY I WOULD KICK YOUR ARSE' [sso]
