RuPaul Drives Henry Rollins: VIDEO

DILFy punk rocker, spoken-word poet and gay ally Henry Rollins took a ride with drag superstar RuPaul for Ru's vehicular webseries. In fact, part one of their drive is here, but in this installment they discuss an invaluable piece of advice that Rollins received from a close friend who called him out for always staying busy.

Although we've always dreamed of Rollins being in a secret gay relationship with rocker Glenn Danzig, Rollins is not actually gay — and would admittedly kick your ass if he was. He has however been an outspoken advocate of marriage equality, going so far as to blast House Speaker John Boehner's defense of the so-called Defense of Marriage Advocate, to sympathize with closeted politician-slash-toilet tramp Larry Craig and to clown the homophobic Duck Dynasty guys by suggesting that they re-imagine themselves as bears.

Henry Rollins Offers Suggestions for a Revamped 'Duck Dynasty'

Henry Rollins

Once upon a time ago, A&E stood for "Arts & Entertainment" before a 2002 management change turned it into the Walmart of television stations, a comparison made apt by the ever-enduring popularity of its hit show Duck Dynasty. We've covered the show and its attendant controversy, particularly the never-ending stream of nonsense from patriarch Phil Robertson, ad nauseumLA Weekly's Henry Rollins has chosen to weigh in on the show with an acerbic editorial that makes an interesting proposition: turn the show into a gay porn.

DynastyOn the flip side of things, one of you supremely talented graphic artists should start a comic book series starring the Duck dudes as homosexual bears. Talk about crossover potential. The thing writes itself. At the next major gay pride event, there should be hard-bodied men in camo hot pants, ridiculous beards pasted to their chins, blowing through duck calls. Dick Dynasty is a gay porn series just waiting to happen.

It will be interesting to see if anyone actually follows through on these suggestions, and you can rest assured we'll report on any that we hear about.

Henry Rollins Again Proves Himself An Awesome Gay Ally

In a post called "Gay Marriage is Punk Rock" at LA Weekly, former Black Flag frontman and perennial ally Henry Rollins celebrates marriage equality in Washington State and wonders when we'll finally be able to just call same-sex nuptials what they are: "marriage," no prefix, no suffix, no "othering."

From his piece:

Marriage equality is a term so ridiculous on its face that when you hear it mentioned, you would think you were in Riyadh. Years from now, perhaps we can lose the equality part, the same-sex part and call it what it is -- marriage. As much as the homophobes, an ever-thinning herd, whines and screeches, the earth is shifting underneath their feet and things are getting better all the time. This is going to be an incredible century. Didn't get off to a very good start but we are making some bold and exciting strides forward.

Rollins even predicts that there will come a day when there are no gay pride marches, writing, "One day, there will be no gay-pride parades because there simply won't be a need for them. Years from now, those who marched will be seen as heroic."

Henry Rollins Blasts Boehner On DOMA Defense

Rollins_Henry Former Black Flag frontman turned actor Henry Rollins has consistently used his influence and position to push progressive politics, particularly when it comes to LGBT rights.

You can be sure, then, that he's pretty pissed about House Speaker John Boehner's decision to defend DOMA in Congress.

And Rollins is venting that anger over at Vanity Fair

[Obama] says his administration will no longer defend DOMA in court. Being happy about that would be like rejoicing that doctors are no longer applying leeches to patient’s faces when they complain of nasal congestion. It’s not a bad thing, though, and about damn time.

In to save the day, to keep those damn gays in their place, is House Speaker John Boehner, who will put himself and his sterling reputation on the line to stand against the president, his insurgent gay terrorist pals, and their dreams of marriage and equal protection under the law. That’s a relief.

When things threaten to become too constitutional, thankfully, there’s someone like John Boehner, owner of every third tear cried in America, to step in and attempt to push America back into the good old days of darkness. Rather than shoulder the awesome burden of creating some damned jobs in America, he goes for the easy cheap shot of going after gay Americans. Again.

Rollins concludes by reminded Boehner that all Americans, even the gays, have a right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

He also points out, quite rightly, that Boehner needs to focus on more pressing problems, like the economy: "Damn, congressman, we’re trying to get up the road here. Either lay out a plan for job creation for all of us to see or get out of the way."
