Michele Bachmann's 'Ex-Gay' Client Comes Out As Gay: 'In the End, My Sexuality is a Beautiful Gift from God'

The bad news keeps on coming for the ailing, harmful “ex-gay” movement.

SchizzelFollowing a number of recent high profile announcements from former “ex-gay” activists attacking “conversion therapy” and a ban on the practice in Washington, D.C., Religion News Service is carrying an interview with “conversion therapy” survivor Christian Schizzel who lays bare his experiences with Janet Boynes Ministries and GOP nuts Michele and Marcus Bachmann’s “counselling” services.

Christian “spent seven years being trotted around the country on media outlets as a poster boy for the ex-gay movement. Now, after reclaiming his gay identity, Christian says he won’t be a weapon anymore.”

To those still promoting the use of a harmful, hateful practice, Christian has this to say:

“I hope they realize this path leads to a horrid dead end. It’s harmful and excruciatingly painful. There’s no academic or spiritual basis for its promotion.

"I wouldn’t wish this upon anyone, not even the ones who harmed me the most in this life.

"In the end, my sexuality is a beautiful gift from God,  and every day, I have found, I have to make a choice to honor it in the straight man’s world.”

Dan Savage: Marcus Bachmann Is A 'Tormented Closet Case' - VIDEO

In an interview with Playboy, Dan Savage has attacked “tormented closet case” Marcus Bachmann for promoting “ex-gay” therapy.

BachmannBachmann, the husband of Republican supreme wingnut Michele Bachmann, is probably Minnesota’s best-known practitioner of the harmful practice. An attempt earlier this year to ban conversion therapy in the state failed. In one of her viler outbursts of the year, Mrs Bachmann said that gay people want laws changed "so that adults will be able to freely prey on little children sexually."

In the interview, Savage says “anybody who has gaydar—anybody who has eyes” looks at Bachmann and “sees a tormented closet case who has externalized his internal conflict and is abusing other people, doing his reparative-therapy bullshit.”

He continues:

“It’s so sad and pathetic. A lot of the self-destructive behaviors gay people are prone to drifting into are directed inward, and then you have these shitbags like Marcus Bachmann for whom it’s all directed outward.

"Marcus Bachmann is the photo negative of the guy on the last bar stool in the gay bar, drinking and smoking himself to death, except instead of destroying himself, he’s destroying other vulnerable queer people in an effort to destroy the queer inside himself.”

Savage also opens up about coming out to his mother when he was 18 and the It Gets Better project.

On the issue of bullying faced by LGBT youth, Savage says:

“It hasn’t quite sunk into the thick skulls of high school administrators and teachers that they can’t abuse queer kids with impunity anymore, because the families are likely to be on the kids’ side. We’ve got lawyers now and we will come after you. We’re winning and we’re not going to sit idly by anymore. You can’t just beat up a queer kid at a high school in Mississippi and have it be a local story. We will jump down your fucking throat.”

HRC Compiles 'Hall Of Shame' List, Outs 19 Least LGBT-Friendly Members Of Congress

MicheleBachmannHRC

The Human Rights Campaign has released an inaugural "Hall of Shame" list to discredit the 19 "most anti-equality" members of congress. The criteria? Each shameful inductee had to vote affirmatively for or co-sponsor legislation that "would enshrine discrimination into our nation's body of laws and our Constitution." There were a couple of notable facts about the list: one democrat, N.C. representative Mike McIntyre, made the cut, and only one woman, Minnesota's own Michele Bachmann, found herself among the hateful cohort.

Buzzfeed reports:

“If you want to understand why LGBT equality has hit a roadblock in Congress, you don’t need to look any further than these leaders of anti-LGBT obstruction and animus,” said David Stacy, HRC’s government affairs director. “These members go out of their way to oppose any step toward equal protection under the law or to protect LGBT Americans from violence, discrimination and harassment. They proactively work to undermine existing legal protections and promote anti-LGBT discrimination.”

Why did democratic McIntyre find himself on the list?

HRC stated that McIntyre made the list because he cosponsored the Federal Marriage Amendment, which aimed to define marriage in the U.S. Constitution as a union between one man and one woman, and “if there is a pro-equality vote opportunity, McIntyre can usually be counted on to vote no.”

A real shame indeed. The HRC will release its annual scorecard for congress on the whole later this week.

For now, check out the full 19-member roster, AFTER THE JUMP...

Michele Bachmann Clarifies Gay Marriage 'Is Boring, Not an Issue' Comment, Reminds People She's Still A Bigot - VIDEO

Republican and anti-gay activist Michele Bachmann has clarified comments made at last week’s right-wing Values Voter Summit conference that same-sex marriage is “not an issue” and is “in fact...boring,” reports WND.

Activist Michelangelo Signorile reported that Bachmann made the comments in an interview he conducted with her on Sirius XM Progress.

However, in a follow-up interview, Bachmann backtracked, claiming she meant that same-sex marriage “won’t be the issue that drives the 2014 election”:

“I told the reporter it’s getting boring having them only press this issue with Republicans while ignoring Democrats. The media loves to divide us on this issue. They look for something all the time. I said nothing different. I’m the woman who carried the traditional marriage amendment in Minnesota, and I stand firm in my belief that marriage should be between one man and one woman.”

The American Family Association’s resident wingnut Bryan Fischer - loves Burger King, hates gay sex - said that the issue of marriage equality is “far from settled”:

“Unfortunately, there are people in the conservative movement who have sort of given up. There are even evangelical leaders sending signals that the battle is over, that the battle is lost. ‘We’ll never be able to capture the millennials. They’re gone.’ I think it’s way premature for that. You know, when the homosexual lobby was [lost at the ballot in 31 states on marriage, they] didn’t quit. They didn’t give up. They didn’t do it. They didn’t give up, and neither are we.”

Always to be relied on for inflammatory hate speech that shows an absolute lack of any human compassion, in July, Bachmann claimed that gay people want to "abolish age of consent laws...so that adults will be able to freely prey on little children sexually."

E.W. Jackson: 'God Ordained' That 1,000 Years From Now Same-Sex Marriage Will Not Exist - VIDEO

E.W. Jackson

True to form, failed 2013 Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia E.W. Jackson - he has previously claimed to be even better friends with god than the Pope - this time spoke for god himself, lashing out against same-sex marriage at the closing of the Values Voter Summit last Friday, reports Right Wing Watch.

The annual Values Voter Summit, organized by anti-gay bigots Family Research Council and backed by the Republican Party, featured a who’s who of homophobic wingnuts including Michelle Bachmann, Jason & David Benham, Michelle Duggar, Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, Rick Santorum and Mat Staver.

Closing out Friday night’s session, Jackson attacked supporters of equality and was somewhat confused with his interpretation of "the truth":

“How dare you try to redefine an institution that God himself ordained! The fact of the matter is they can call a union other than one man and one woman by any name they choose but the reality is you can re-write a thousand dictionaries, you can put on a thousand TV shows, you can make a thousand headlines, you can have a thousand coming out parties, you can have a thousand politicians affirm the lie, but the truth will still stand and a thousand years from now, marriage will still be a union between one man and one woman because God ordained it so!"

Michele Bachmann: Gays Want To Let Adults 'Prey On Little Children Sexually' - AUDIO

Crazy

Bastion of rational thought, Rep. Michele Bachmann, recently took to conservative radio show "Faith & Liberty" (someone really needs to create a ridiculous Republican talk-show name generator app) to once again demonize LGBT people. As Right Wing Watch reports, this time Bachmann accused "'the gay community' of pushing “deviancy,” “tyranny” and child rape." According to Bachmann,

“[T]he gay community will 'abolish age of consent laws, which means we will do away with statutory rape laws so that adults will be able to freely prey on little children sexually. That’s the deviance that we’re seeing embraced in our culture today.'”

"She also predicted that gay rights advocates will legalize polygamy and enact 'hate speech laws across the United States' in order to bring about 'the rise of tyranny.'”

Never a stranger to contrarian opinions, Bachmann called the Supreme Court's decision in United States v. Windsor, the now famous ruling that last year gutted key elements of the Defense Against Marriage Act (DOMA), a “denial of equal protection for all Americans.”

Elaborating on her views of marriage equality in a broader sense, Bachmann said,

“This is a revolution that we are encountering now...For all of the thousands of years of recorded human history, about 5,000 years, there is no instance of any culture, nation or tribe ever having as the established standard for marriage anything other than between man and woman. It may have been multiple women and a man, it may have been something like that, but it was always between men and women.”

She decried marriage equality as a “radical experiment” that will have “profound consequences:” “I think that nature tells us, our biology tells us that marriage is between man and a woman, when we tamper with something that was generated by the Creator of the Universe, I think there are profound consequences that we haven’t yet realized.”
