'One Million Moms' Goes After Gender-Bending Superhero 'SheZow'

Shezow

Predictably, AFA subgroup One Million Moms is not happy about the Hub Network program SheZow, which features a pint-size superhero who transforms from a boy into a girl to fight crime.

Writes One Million Moms, which is calling on the network to can the show:

Yes, you read that correctly. When Guy says the magic words "You go girl!" he becomes SheZow the superhero.

There is no doubt this superhero character will confuse kids. Children desire to be just like superheroes and will mimic a superhero's every action, even to the point of dressing up in costumes to resemble the characters as much as possible. It won't be long before little boys are saying, "I want to be a girl, so I can help people and save the world!"

Christian parents don't need a TV show to contribute to what might be a real problem for some children. Loving your child is to teach them right from wrong and find help when they need it. We are all sinners, but we try to do better and get help when and where we need it in our lives. Thousands of Christian counselors and pastors are available all across the country to help anyone who is struggling with any kind of sin including homosexuality, gender identity disorder, gender confusion or gender dysphoria.

Gender-Bending Crime Fighter Hits Television, Stirs Up Controversy: VIDEO

Shezow

There's a new TV character in town, a 12-year-old-boy-turned-girl-crime-fighter on Hub's new children's cartoon program, SheZow. Hub, a cable network owned by parent companies Discovery Communications and Hasbro Inc., is hoping their new superhero(ine) will bring in viewers and interest.

The Los Angeles Times reports:

In "SheZow," a 12-year-old boy - named Guy - uses a magic ring to transform himself into a legendary crime fighter. When evi lurks, Guy says, "You go, girl!" and becomes SheZow.

"When I first heard about the show, my reaction was 'Are you out of your minds?'" said Margaret Loesch, chief exeutive of the Hub. "Then I looked at it and thought, 'This is just funny.'"

Not everyone is as amused as Loesch however. Conservative blog Breitbart tagged "SheZow" with the moniker of "transsexual" and reported:

Nothing says “child-appropriate material” quite like gender-bending underage superheroes...That show follows the adventures of a 12-year-old boy named Guy who uses a magic ring to transform himself into a crime-fighting girl. Yes, you read that correctly. When Guy says the magic words – “You go girl!” – he becomes SheZow, wearing a purple skirt and cape, as well as pink gloves and white boots.

Breitbart also suggests that Loesch "may or may not have been high (and leftist) when she greenlit this project." The New York Daily News reported on GLAAD's response to the conservative backlash:

...a spokesman for GLAAD fired back that criticizing the animated series for "promoting" transgender themes is, well, cartoonish.

“This Breitbart News article is just a laughable attempt at attention seeking, comparable to Jerry Falwell attacking the Teletubbies, and demonstrates a profound ignorance of transgender people since this show doesn't include any,” said GLAAD’s Rich Ferraro.

"SheZow" represents a departure from the more gender-constricted programming readily available for young children. However, Hub sees the new show as a possible boon to their business, which is currently struggling against juggernauts like Nickelodeon and Disney:

...who knows, maybe if "SheZow" is a hit, Hasbro can start merchandising her white go-go boots, and her ring.

"We'll see, won't we?" Loesch said.

Gay Superhero Comic Reaches $14,000 Kickstarter Goal In Less Than 24 Hours: VIDEO

Comic

Less than 24 hours after launching a Kickstarter project to publish his gay superhero web comic The Young Protectors in book form, writer Alex Woolfson has reached his $14,000 goal. Back in March, we reported on Woolfson's first Kickstarter-funded comic Artifice. Both have been tremendous successes on the crowd funding website.

Kyle"I wrote The Young Protectors because I loved action movies and superhero comics as a kid," Woolfson said. "But I never got to see what I really wanted to see and that's kick-ass genre stories with heroes who just happened to like other guys."

To foster interest in the project, Woolfson has created a variety of rewards for different levels of pledge support, including signed copies, posters, keychains, and even chances to appear in future pages of the comic. As of Tuesday afternoon, over $28,000 has been pledged to the project.

Weekend Movies: Iron Man 3

 Ironman3-tony
Don't believe everything you see. Tony Stark is tops this time around.

BY NATHANIEL ROGERS

When last we saw Tony Stark he was eating shawarma in New York City with his fellow superheroes in the stinger of Marvel's The Avengers (reviewed). When we last saw Iron Man, minutes before that, he was plummeting from a cosmic wormhole to his near-death having just saved the world from an alien apocalypse. (S.H.I.E.L.D's workman's comp insurance must be pricey.) I mention Tony Stark and Iron Man separately because the franchise's new writer/director Shane Black, who previously worked with Robert Downey Jr on the underappreciated comedy Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, seems more interested in Stark than Iron Man. This is a good sign, especially for a third picture. Time to flip this tin can around.

IRON MAN 3 takes great pains to make a distinction between the impenetrable suit and the man inside it. Tony Stark's first attempt to suit up is a comic misfire since he's engineered an Iron Man suit that comes right to him when he calls. He hasn't quite worked out the speed of his flying wardrobe -imagine a metal codpiece flying 60 mph right at your Andrew Christians. The second time we see Iron Man, if I'm remembering the sequence of events correctly, Tony Stark isn't in the suit at all. He's engaging in some prankster remote control business for girlfriend Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow, wonderful in this role but haters gonna hate).

The film even opens with a flashback to Tony's pre-Iron Man days, further separating the man from his iron mask.
