Watch: Tim Pawlenty Says He's Running for President

Pawlenty

Former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty told CNN's Piers Morgan last night that he's forming an exploratory committee and plans to announce he's running for President, after Morgan asked him what he thinks of Donald Trump and if he would ever consider being Trump's VP:

"I'm running for president. I'm not putting my hat in the ring rhetorically or ultimately for vice president so I'm focused on running for president. And as to Donald Trump, I don't even know if he's going to run, but like I said, I hope he does in one sense. I think he's funny, he brings a lot to the debate, but I just hope that the country will take the full measure of all the candidates and make an informed decision. I believe they will...I've got an exploratory committee up and running and we'll have a final or full announcement in the coming weeks here, it won't be too much longer, but everything is headed in that direction Piers."

In February, Pawlenty traveled to Iowa to speak before anti-gay group The Family Leader. He said there that he would like to rescind funds for 'DADT' repeal. You may recall that Pawlenty has also expressed his desire to fully reinstate the ban on gays in the military. In May of last year, when governor, Pawlenty vetoed a bill that would have given gays and lesbians the right to decide what to do with the body of their deceased partner.

Anti-gay former Minnesota GOP governor Tim Pawlenty has launched his presidential run with a new video.

Watch it, AFTER THE JUMP...

And Zack Ford at Think Progress publishes a helpful list, reminding us that Pawlenty opposes same-sex unions, wants to reinstate 'DADT' and rescind funding for its implementation, regrets his vote for an LGBT non-discrimination bill, doesn't support end-of-life rights for same-sex couples, vetoed an anti-bullying bill, and opposed a large number of additional benefits for LGBT people.

Watch: Tim Pawlenty Wants to Rescind Funds for 'DADT' Repeal

Pawlenty

This afternoon in Pella, Iowa, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty addressed approximately 100 people in Iowa at the Presidential Lecture Series for anti-gay group The Family Leader.

Pawlenty discussed his opposition to 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell'. You may recall that Pawlenty has expressed his desire to reinstate the ban on gays in the military. In Pella he went a bit further, telling Wonk Room's Igor Volsky it would be a "reasonable step" to rescind funding for 'DADT' repeal implementation.

Pawlenty also recently did an interview with Focus on the Family.

Good As You has the audio in which Pawlenty boasts about his anti-gay credentials. Says Pawlenty of equality for LGBT people: "I just don't buy it, sorry."

Listen: MN Governor Tim Pawlenty Says He'll Reinstate 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' if Elected President

Pawlenty

Right Wing Watch reports that hate group American Fmaily Association's Bryan Fischer interviewed Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, on a variety of topics including CPAC, DOMA, Roe v. Wade, and DADT.

Pawlenty tells Fischer that, if he's elected PResident in 2012, he would work to reinstate 'DADT'.

"I have been a public and repeat supporter of maintaining Don't Ask, Don't Tell. There's a lot of reasons for that, but if you look at how the combat commanders and the combat units feel about it, the results of those kinds of surveys were different than the ones that were mostly reported in the newspaper and that is something I think we need to pay attention to. But I have been a public supporter of maintaining Don't Ask, Don't Tell and I would support reinstating it as well."
