Madonna’s new album to be called Defying Gravity according to The Sun newspaper, and strangely enough, the leak appears to be the exact same leak American Life was given: “Madonna has played her new material to Warner label bosses and they love it. There is a rockier edge and the usual electronic influence. The label are really excited and believe it is full of hit singles.” Blah, blah, blah, just answer the important question. Does she rap about soy lattes in this one?
And while the NY Daily News’ Rush & Molloy report that Madonna mouthpiece Liz Rosenberg says the new tracks are “incredible” just like a publicist should, word about the Jonas Akerlund Truth or Dare-esque documentary, recently rejected by Cannes, is that it just ain’t all that: “More than half of the film is about how the kabbala has enriched her life. People do not want to see this from Madonna. They want to be shocked. All of the juicy stuff – like Madonna and [husband] Guy Ritchie arguing – was cut out by Madge herself because she wanted to show how much the kabbala has changed her.”
Meanwhile, Voguing, which Madonna strikingly brought to the mainstream’s attention in 1990, lives on in a new generation…according to the NYT, profiling the 25th anniversary of the New York-based House of Ultra-Omni. “Mr. Harp arrived in Los Angeles prepared to walk in a category called Butch Queen Realness, a kind of extravagantly performed commentary on self-presentation, in which an out gay man impersonates an apparently straight or closeted gay man by wearing a costume that exaggeratedly telegraphs masculinity.”
