The Madonna publicity machine kicks into overdrive today with an appearance on TRL this afternoon where she’ll debut her new single “Hung Up” for those that haven’t heard the leaked version already floating around the internet. Madonna recently seemed to bite the hand that feeds her, telling a magazine that “TV is trash.” Despite what she thinks about its content, she definitely understands its power to bring in lotsa de casha.
Last Thursday when the single was leaked, I had no less than seven copies of it in my inbox within 20 minutes, so thanks to all who sent it along! The single is great and super catchy.
“Hung Up” is also set to give ABBA the biggest-selling record of their career. The Swedish group will collect royalties for the use of a sample from “Gimme Gimme Gimme” that forms the centerpiece of the new song. It’s only the second time the group has given another artist permission to use an ABBA track. Benny Andersson: “We said ‘yes’ this time because we admire Madonna so much and always have done. She has got guts and has been around for 21 years. That is not bad going. Hung Up is really good. If it wasn’t any good we would not have said ‘yes’. It is a wonderful track: 100 per cent solid pop music.”
