Ford Motor Company promised to return an answer by today to the gay groups it met with recently. They met to discuss its meeting with conservative group AFA and the seemingly related decision to stop advertising in gay publications. The gay coalition demanded it reinstate advertising and have drawn up two plans contingent on Ford’s response. A teenage girl and three men who were “seeking violence for its own sake” have been convicted of manslaughter, not murder, in the death of gay barman David Morley on London’s South Bank in October 2004. Last November, Pink News reported that the girl “asked a gay barman to ‘pose for the camera’ before she filmed her friends kicking him to death.” The group was reportedly making a “happy slapping” film, a growing phenomenon in which acts of violence are recorded and distributed via the internet. Morley was 37, and was a survivor of the Soho nail bomb attack in London in 1999.
