Duplicating a diva’s master performance right down to the venue (and the poster!) may seem like a risky proposition, but I have no doubt Rufus Wainwright can pull it off with his own inimitable style. His June 14th concert at Carnegie Hall of the entire 1961 Judy Garland show (with orchestra) promises to be the gayest event going on this June — and in June there’s certainly a lot to compete with.
Rufus is also lending his pipes to a benefit concert to mark the third anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq and will also feature Public Enemy’s Chuck D, Devendra Banhart, Peaches, Fischerspooner, Bright Eyes, and Michael Stipe.
He’ll sing ’em all and stay all night! [sfgate culture blog]
