A gay Burlington, Vermont teenager was set to speak to the student body at Williston Central School in that state about harassment of gay and lesbian teens when the anti-bullying program was abruptly cancelled after a meeting between school officials and parents. It seems the parents were concerned about the message it might send. Kate Jerman, co-executive director of Outright Vermont, the group sponsoring the event, said, “The message they (students) got was clearly this isn't an OK thing to talk about. That's a lot of damage to the school climate from one very small action.”
