The small southeast Asian country of Brunei has delayed implementation of its new Islamic criminal codes which would punish homosexuality by lethal stoning.
The country's Islamic Legal Unit has blamed the delay on “unavoidable circumstances” possibly related to Brueni Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's recent trip to Singapore. In addition to stoning, the new laws would also instate public floggings and severing of limbs as criminal punishments.
Earlier this week, a secret, high-dollar LGBT donor conference planned at The Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles moved locations after learning that Sultan Bolkiah owned the hotel.
