Last night, Rachel Maddow dug into Hillary Clinton's press conference at the United Nations following her speech before a special conference on women's rights at the Security Council. As Maddow notes, it was not women's rights that brought the press corps out in droves yesterday. Rather, it was the controversy that erupted surrounding Clinton's use of a personal email account and a private server during her tenure as Secretary of State. That issue and that issue alone launched the press into an "unheard of" feeding frenzy at the UN.
During her press conference, Secretary Clinton, who has not given a press conference or taken questions from the press corps in 2 years, noted that her decision to use her personal email was motivated by "convenience." She went on to insist that she fully complied with all the rules she was governed by at the time she was Secretary of State.
The real question that Maddow wanted to know, however, was will the path to the Presidency be any easier for Clinton in 2016 than it was in 2008 should she choose to run? Is this latest controversy in a long line of Clinton controversies yet another example of a scandal that won't stick? One thing is for sure: Clinton is in an unparalleled position that has no precedent. So all bets might be off.
