Married with children Governor James McGreevey rocks NJ with resignation and announcement that he is gay: "My truth is that I am a gay American." The announcement precedes an expected sexual harassment lawsuit by Golan Cipel, a controversial aide who resigned in 2002 for "personal reasons."

Very sad that so many married couples can just one day suddenly be declared "VOID". It seems we make great steps forward only to have to take those steps back. I sort of expected it in the San Francisco case.

Its a sad day for the gay rights movement with the SF ruling and the ugly media spin that will undoubtedly follow Gov McGreevey.
We can only hope that there's a sex video out there and that it ends up online.

I hope history of homosexual inclusion in the United States will pivot on both the tragedy and the grace of today's resignaiton of Gov. Jim McGreevy of New Jersey. I hope his loss -- the things he has had to forfeit -- will become a benchmark of understanding in the non-gay public's mind.
Might it show further that homosexual people are brothers, sisters, boses, fathers, professionals, yes, even credible politicians. Morever, may it demonstrate quite well the pain and loss caused by the society's estrangement of gay people within it.
If a harrassment lawsuit is yet to be, it could be that the governor's high numbers will fall. Until such a time, however, I think all of us who felt pangs of identification with the story of his struggles must join with him in love, support and unity.
Could it not have been your or my words he spoke? "I am a gay American," said he.
Can we?

Eminem *(below) brings up a well phrased and valid point, however...
those sympathetic to McGreevey's situation will see that he has had to forfeit his life to follow his love. Those who have lessons to learn about homosexuality will instead only focus on the infidelity angle and use it as further proof of the "amorality of homosexuality's corruptive influence".
Either way, it takes guts to pull the rug out from under an extortionist (which was expressly implied). Not every gay man likes getting f*cked and I'm glad he stood up and took the difficult path out. It's just a shame that it's such a muddy road.
