The Man of Steel Returns

Brandonrouthassuperman

Let's take our minds off the evil Texans, discriminating corporations, and hideous Pope for a minute, and concentrate on the first official unveiling of Brandon Routh as Superman. It's refreshing to see the cheesy vinyl bodysuit has left the building. If the background is any indication, art direction looks smart.

  1. Fabulous boots!

  2. Chris Reeve is the definitive Superman but this guy's a good second.

  3. Vinyl bodysuit? I think you're thinking of the bad '90's BATMAN movies (Val Kilmer, George Clooney...)

    Posted by: Joe | Apr 22, 2005 11:42:57 AM

  4. yup that's definitely what I was thinking of... Although does anybody remember the fab/cheesy ice crystal home that Chris Reeve had? Total camp.

  5. a couple nipples and a codpiece would have killed them?

  6. not impressed. dull, muted colors and the cape looks like its made out of pleather. and not much of a package either.

  7. oh no, this may be a trainwreck. I'm thinking somewhere between "The Phantom" and "The Hulk". Those are some thighs, though.

  8. I am sure that in light of the Bush FCC they had to tone down the package or maybe he's just not happy to see Lois was around and not Jimmy.

  9. The colors of the boots, tights and cape are horrible.

    It's Super-X-boy

  10. Superman should just be naked, except for the boots and cape...they could manscape the S into his chest ;)

    Posted by: Wayne | Apr 22, 2005 1:22:46 PM

  11. I don't think superman has a hairy chest. And if the S is painted on it will look like smallville. Not a bad thing to look like though. I think naked superman is a good idea maybe ad the belt with the cape and boots

  17. I think it looks great. I like the dark colors. I'm pretty sure the FCC had nothing to do with the state of Super-Routh's package, considering they oversee material broadcast on television and radio, not feature films.

  18. Eh, still not digging it.

  19. Sorry but Christopher Reeve, rest in peace, will forever be Superman. And what the hell are they thinking having Kate Bosworth play Lois Lane? That title should still belong to Margot Kider

  21. "...What does the movie's costume say about this Superman's personality?
    "He's not afraid," Singer says."

---And gayer than Carson Kressley. If only Singer had that balls to venture into the Hoyay that "Samllville" fled from. Not that Kal-El should be gay, but that he's also an outsider who at some point decides not to "hide in his closet" either. Nothing hidden, everything laid on the line, I'm an alien...get used to it.

  22. I'm sure Bryan Singer will develop a nice Superman movie here, but this just highlights that Chris Reeve was brilliant.
No offense to the new guy.
Also not liking the dark red.

  23. This actually does look like a rubber suit. Not very flattering at all. I don't mind the muted colors, but the material should have been simple cloth tights...not spandex like The Christopher Reeves suite. The cape is just ridiculous and does look like a leatherette. I don't mind the logo being a thicker material.

  24. Hot.

But Chris Reeves still kicks ass. That goes for Margot Kidder, as well.

  25. After reading the post all i can say is -----run, run, queen alert queen alert.

  26. The movie director is posting video reports. And they've found Brandon's Friendster profile!

    Posted by: Jim | Apr 22, 2005 8:05:25 PM

  27. He's a hot one. I can't believe everyone went straight for the cock size (and commented on it!) too funny..

I don't care for the suit coloration either, but maybe the entire movie is muted or the art direction required a duller color scheme..

  28. Not to speak ill of the dead, but I always thought Reeve was a crappy Superman. I was big Superman comic-book fan when I was a kid, and I remember thinking when the movie came out, 'This is their idea of Superman?'He just seemed so dull and unspectacular, or unsuper, if you will.

I guess people who have never read comic books have different ideas about what epitomizes the character for them.

  29. Put me in the "Christopher Reeve, mehhh!"-category. He was always too tall and lanky for my image of Superman. Superman needs to have more of a v-shape like Marc Singer had...though he'd have been much worse since he's not an "actor". Hiring male-model types...Rauth, Welling and Reeve included..always seem a bad idea. They need an athlete with a natural muscular build, not a clothes-horse recovering from an eating disorder.

  30. Oh my. Christopher Reeve would still be my favorite, and these bitchy queens can say what they will, but Brandon is still hot!

    Posted by: Steve | Apr 23, 2005 11:14:32 AM

  31. The most handsome Superman yet.
    Hot too.

  32. OK people... i've read alot of comments about the size of the S on Brandons chest and it being to small... the original Superman S was as small if not smaller then Brandons... i'm talking about the comics... it got bigger through the years... ok i'm off the soupbox now... Brandon and a big cape to fill... but i feel he has don't a good job

    Posted by: freaker | Jul 11, 2006 6:35:57 PM

  33. I think Brandon is hot as hell and the costume also. I wonder if it has feet or is just short tights. Doesn't matter he is still hot in them.
