Best gay blog. Towleroad Wins Award

08/02/2005

road.jpg Writer Andrew Davies' personal dislike of gay sex has caused him to drop it from the screen adaptation of Alan Hollinghurst's Booker Prize-winning novel The Line of Beauty: "The gay sex makes me rather queasy. I suspect the television audience also finds it awkward. So I’d prefer more soft focus with the camera on the eyes rather than other more intimate parts."

road.jpg Burt Reynolds believes gay marriage can work if one finds the right partner. On his Dukes of Hazzard co-star: "When I worked with Willie Nelson - who is just about the nicest man I've ever worked with in my life - I thought, 'If I'd have been gay, it would've saved me millions, just because we'd still be happily married.'"

  1. That is so sweet of Burt to say.. I had no idea that he'd take such a stand on the issue...I'm suprised..very pleasantly...

  2. If Andrew Davies has a problem with gay sex, then he should be fired from the job of adapting that book. That's just stupid.

  3. can Davies do that without Hollinghurst's consent? aren't there copyright issues involved? it is arguable if Hollinghurst would agree to the dilution of the script.

  5. Typical goddamned hypocrisy from a straight man. He had no problem at all adapting Sarah Water's Tipping the Velvet for the BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/tipping/) which caused a minor stir at the time for its sexual content. The difference there...er, lots of women getting it on together. The man's a twat.

  6. Andrew's basically left lots of "..." in the script... the director has been told to "flesh it out a bit" !
