Police take neighborhood erection into their own hands: "Officers found no one home. Assuming the snow sculpture was more prank than nod to Christmas' pagan roots, the police knocked it down. Beat it down with shovels, actually."
A Daily Show send-up of the War on Xmas. (thanks Spencer)
George Michael says he'll attend Elton John's wedding. The singer is in Tokyo promoting his new documentary A Different Story. He also told a group of reporters, "It makes me very sad to hear that it's not easy for Japanese artists to [come out]. Because actually now in Britain it really doesn't matter. We have several openly gay pop stars and the girls don't seem to mind. I think different parts of the world are dealing at different speeds but I think it's very hard for a culture to remain prejudiced against a group of people when the whole of the world is changing."

I don't offend by things like big snow dicks but I also think that building one on your front lawn is rude, tacky and disrespectful of your neighbors (unless you live in Chelsea - and even then it's tacky)

It's art! Damn them for destroying creative works!
I agree about the first amendment thing...

Is it really art or is it just people being cheeky and trying to a rise out of their neighbors? I agree that art is art when the creator says it is but come on a big snow hard on in your front lawn.

Art is intended to provoke, even offend people, in order to elicit a response, take people out of their comfort zone and give them an opportunity to see the world in a different way. Art that confronts and even shocks people's preconceived notions of taste and sensibility is just as valid as art that is intended to communicate "high brow" conceptual messages. I wonder what people would say if they understood that one of the worlds great religions, Hinduism, worships the phallus as one of it's primary symbols. You should see the temples in northern India. If you think a six-foot snow penis in a front yard is offensive to people, get a load of what's carved larger than life on the sides of those temples! Hindu's embrace such symbolism; it's uptight puritanical Protestant Fundamentalist Christian sensibilities that are out of whack. Personally, I hope the people who live in the house rebuild their snow sculpture, this time even bigger. But then I am a size queen.

Hindus aren't the only ones who worship penises.
Uhm...lets see
Washington Monument= huge cock of america intended to broadcast our virility and power smack dab in our capital for any visitors to see. Obelisks come to us via Egypt and even the hebrews knew what they meant and thus the old testament orders to never build them.
they were originaly symbols of the pharohs cock....our's is the symbol of our 1st presidents cock.
